For those interested in gamer motivations, the GDC presentations by Yee are really fascinating watching and educational. For those interested in gaming theory, I'd recommend taking up basic economics and behavioral economics before it, as the gaming industry has a woeful habit of reinventing the wheel as a matter of pride (i.e., engines in particular until very recently)... significantly more insight and relevance is found in economics. For those interested in how companies go about figuring out "what their product is" and all elements implicit therein, that's called "product management" in the business world, am I'm retired from a career in it. There are significant areas of crossover that could benefit gaming, but the creative/studio model is loathe to accept more structure, even when it offers significant cost avoidance and savings. Happy to answer any questions and equally so to refer to extensive resources... please don't mistake my courtesy for weakness - if you make a target of me, bring a lunch.

  @Jetah This is not about sandbox having rules. Yeah some rules are in TOS like account related stuff, behaviour in general, cheating, advertising, and stuff like that. TOS is not a place to say players that "do not play on every planet with your guild members, even we allow you to do that". WTF? That makes zero sense. If any developer would do a stupid thing like that, I would LMAO and leave. If developers do not want players to cross-realm then they will do in game restrictions to prevent that kind of behaviour. However, I believe that devs will not do that because they do not want to. I bet they want players to have that oppurtunity to play how they want in as many planets they like and they do not want to make any restrictions there.

  Being limited by having low stats makes sense. Being limited for having high stats imo doesnt. One can be smart while strong, why not. Our character is already limited by certain number of points for character creation, why punish me for being specialised (If i have natural 20 STR and 20 INT, why should i be worse mage than dude with natural 20 on INT 10 on STR, I should be as smart as him + also physically stronger).

  @Razvan Of course you would have to based it on attribute price otherwise people could end up making themselves weaker and weaker with every change but same applies if they would implement something like L2 tattoo system alone without full attribute respec

Dedicated healers will be a thing regardless. In addition, it also depends of a what kind of friendly fire will eventually be implemented because it can have a huge impact to the tank behaviour, melee actions and combat strategy in general. Moreover, it would be interesting to know how much CCs stack and is a CC lock/stun a thing or do CCs have just a minor impact to the combat situation.

Abstract result from this study: This study shows that the most important factor of better ingame economy is a necessity of trade. If a player earns the most out of trading, instead of generating new wealth, the inflation should stay low. This of course means the economy has to be designed to utilize even the least valuable materials, so no matter how long the players played the game; they have a reason to acquire and consume those goods. When comparing the results gained from these games, it is clear that not all game developers understand how to build a stable economy even though the knowledge has existed for over a decade. This disregard for economical knowledge has serious consequences that ultimately are not good for anyone. There's even a study done on pandemics based on a bug that happened in WoW. The quick synopsis of that incident is, players took their pet to a dungeon instance and it was affected by a DoT poison or sorts, when players stepped out of the dungeon, the DoT stayed and infected many other players who aren't able to survive the dungeon, thus a virtual pandemic was born! The incident piqued a lot of virologists interests as to how people react to a virus. They found that some people avoided the cities to not get infected, some players stuck around the cities/hot spots and healed people. Some players would intentionally infect others, some even had some sort of a visual sign that says they're infected/not infected so people would stay away from them, etc. etc. It was a really good read. I bet there's even a YT video out for it lol edit: I clearly don't work in the gaming industry but I do tend to study a lot of random things to keep me informed, there are a few other studies/models done that's essentially became the base foundations of what MMORPGs take now, like Bartle's Taxonomy for instance.

  Hey I say we just let them allow us to log in and pick to have what we want with out any work. IE its a grind to log into the game everyday so i need them to install TeamViewer in my PC and have it log in for me. Once this is completed i would then have them auto log in (what a drag am I right?). As I will obviously will have to grind away in make/buying food to survive we would need to them take that machinic out of the game to Grindy. Ok that is all easy... No one thing that kept me coming back to WOW was the lvl 40/50/60... City sitting cause i did everything and while i waited for more grindy content . You realize taking the way you're looking at it would make the game stupid. If you don't want to do some or anything repetitive most games wouldn't be your kind of game. The term grind in most gaming comminutes is something that is a time dump for the lack of real content. Dailies are a grind for sure. Raiding the same damn thing everyday to get that .000% drop drake pet that's a grind. Getting money from passively killing mobs to then get a house is not a grind. Thats my 1 cent

  But it´s quite weird to have 25-29 fps (in the wilderness without any players/npcs nearby) on GTX 1070 (3vent gaming version), i5 7400 (not newest, but might be enough) 16 GB DDR4 Hopefully optimization will help a little.

  I hated the rare resources in SWG usually because I didn't get them lol. The thing about rare though is that it is not plentiful. If something in the crafting genre doesn't impose some kind of hurdle that must be overcome then it doesn't become something you can make your niche in. Everyone will be able to do it and thus crafters will only be necessary for the lazy or those who just don't have the time nor want to make the time. Since knowledge will only open up crafting options that give different, not better, stats to your items, then there will not be any higher tier stuff. No items will be able to handle all situations. There are also no secrets in mmos. At least not until they are revealed for the first time. Once someone breaks a code on a recipe they will become widely known. So only the players paving the way will have the excitement of the secret formula experimenting.

  @Denyde Taking into account that one of the pillars of Fractured is to eliminate grind from the scene and focus on what they call "horizontal progression", I don't think that this type of character reward and empowerment mechanics is something compatible. This leads us to ask ourselves, how are they going to keep the most dedicated players busy? The answer in my opinion would be to have a variety of frequent and interest-generating activities that are not repetitive or become a long-term way of getting an exclusive reward. An interesting challenge that they will have to face if they really want to maintain that fundamental pillar that differentiates them from the rest of what already exists in the market...

  @Logain na i did not mean for the start and tutorial, i more see it as a general possibility for a crafting process. I am quite sure in a case if such process, the tutorial tasks will be easily replaceable by other things as soon we will have more crafting recipes available.
