    • RE: Pledge Packs Are Going... With A Sale!

So @Pluto if I have this right... you agree with me that KS was a help, but not the be-all and end-all of funding? Great.

Clearly the team had money before the KS and while €111,662 raised at KS might encourage further investment, we're not talking about heaps and heaps of money there. Indeed, I would argue quite strongly that the €75,575 raised AFTER the KS is almost as impressive, given that it shows interest over a longer period and... whaddaya know... some of that money is coming through people buying pledges that you don't think they should be able to buy at a tiny, tiny, tiny discount.

And something we haven't even touched on yet... a lot of this extra money coming from the sale will be from original KS backers who are upgrading their pledges. So in some (many?) cases, you're kind of having a go at people who were original backers anyway, and are using the sale to throw more money into the pot. Which is, as I keep saying, not a bad thing.

You also say, "I also find it interesting that all the love for the process is coming from those benefiting from it..." which isn't really as clever a comment as you seem to think it is. Because at the end of the day, we are ALL benefiting from more money being thrown into the pot. Unless you think there are people who want the game to stay small, or even fail, by not attracting further backers or money? Do get back to me on that, because that is such a strange way to view the game.

Wrong. You are significantly better off backing now versus the KS. Without the KS, they wouldn’t be at the position that they are.

Wrong? Er... we can all see how much the KS raised - €111,662 for those who don't want to check - which clearly hasn't paid for the team to be making the game all this time, including before the KS. While that KS money is nice, sure, there's no way it's the backbone, or even a significant amount, in terms of what it will cost to make the game over the life of the project. Do you know how much this stuff actually costs? Possibly not, given what you're saying. To pretend that the KS somehow saved the game and is the only reason the game is being made (or whatever you're inferring by "they wouldn't be in the position they are"), is actually the wrong comment being made here. Not mine.

Long story short, I'm delighted new people are signing up to the game, spurred on by the pledge discounts, which largely equate to what the early-bird rates were on KS. More people and more money is GREAT for the game. You can pooh-pooh that all you like, but I think anyone with their eye on the bigger picture cannot see it as anything but a great outcome.

Actually if I remember right from the kickstarter those who jumped in on early bird pledges actually got them cheaper than those who came to the campaign later. So depending upon when you found the kickstarter and pledged you may have actually gotten it cheaper as others followed. I haven't looked but maybe these discounted prices are early bird prices.

I was happy to upgrade cheaper either way 👍

I think they are, IIRC what my earlybird package cost on KS.

Basically it's not a huge discount and nothing for people to treat like it's the worst thing that ever happened, etc, etc.

The money isn't an issue for me, it's the idea of it. I obviously put money forward for a vision, but it's tactics like these that I absolutely abhor. Such a shame, I suppose a company can't be perfect.

Without trying to start a fight here, let's call it like it is. People putting down money now, for a slightly discounted price (and it's only slightly, let's not forget), are still putting down money for a vision, exactly the same as you. The game is still aaaaaages away.

It's not like people who put down the money at KS are some incredible early adopters and anyone who comes along now has some sort of red carpet rolled out for them.

As far as I can see, someone stumping up $$$ now is in no better (or worse) position than someone who did it at KS. They're still an early adopter, really, based on how far the game still has to go.

Look below at my sig. I was into the KS as soon as it went up and I STILL think someone buying a pack today is basically as much of an early adopter as I am. I genuinely do.

All packs include: A digital copy of Fractured (retail €30)
Right? (Just to be clear, since I didn't read the news for a long time)

Yes, from the Recruit tier, and up, you will have the game to play when it's released.

(And prior to that, some form of Alpha or Beta access depending on how much you pledge...)

@Morgion Albion is made FOR whales ^^.

Agreed. Which is not a sustainable model. Look no further than the Lord British game 'Shroud of the Avatar' which has been a colossal failure and now seems to be run mostly by one guy out of his house. It survives on whales mindlessly throwing cash at a game that has never been good and can never be good. It's dire.

When is A1T2 going live anyways?

I agree... all the video stuff on the site is really old at this point.

Some fresh stuff would REALLY help.

    • So... Legends of Aria

I'm guessing a number of people here may have tried Legends of Aria.

      What did you think?

I played it hard for about two weeks, trying to recapture the UO buzz of the late 90s, trying to get into a community there... and I just didn't feel it. The whole game felt very, very basic. Combat, especially, was a let down.

After a couple of weeks I wondered just WTF I was doing... it was just click click click click click click for no real discernible happiness. Basically the whole thing felt pointless.

My gut feeling is that Fractured's systems and combat will make the game more fun than LoA is.

    • RE: Stretch Goals

I like the way the devs are handling this. Unlike seemingly every other game out there, they want to get the game right first, rather than adding carrot after carrot after carrot to people and then having to squeeze all that stuff into the game. Far better to aim for a manageable game, rather than one that has two-dozen extra features tacked on.

@Canterbury maple story 2 let's u customize everything and that works well uploading ur own images and making your own weapon skins and armour skins you can sell to other players

It may do... but why take the risk? Add a level of moderation, stop idiots in their tracks, and everyone's happy.

I mean, thinkgs like guild tabards don't change all that often, if ever, so if people have to wait a day or two for approval... big deal... they're going to be using the thing, unchanged, for months or years to come, so where's the harm in moderating it first up?

Throw some conditions on it, like a level, and maybe a fee... AND... have someone at the company moderating the content, and I say fantastic. It really does come down to moderation because, yes, people DO create stupid things, thinking they're clever, and if we can just remove that sort of nonsense it would be a really good thing.

I hated the maps in Albion. All really small and tricksy pathing. None of it felt like a big world where I could go anywhere. It felt really really really annoying to get around after the first hour or two.

    • RE: Ultima Online

The thing about UO isn't that it was a great game. Demonstrably, it wasn't. The graphics, the controls, the system overall... all of it was pretty average. What made it special was the community and the fact a game like that hadn't really been seen before. And that's why, year after year, people go chasing MMOs hoping it will be the next UO. And it never can be because that time has changed, both in terms of the video game industry and where people are in their personal life.

    • RE: I feel that we need an RP server, this game is perfect for that

RP servers break down communities and make them smaller. For a niche game like this it would be NUTS to divide the community.

And I acknowledge that numbers don't bother some RP people. They could be playing on a server and see next to no one and think it was idyllic. But in an MMO, the whole idea is to have a population that's... well, massive. Or at least as big as can be. And sending a chunk of RP people off onto another server, in a niche game like this, defeats that idea.

    • RE: How do people get so many points?

People have created tons of sock puppet accounts to look like they got lots of new recruits, and this has been a big problem in judging how big this community really is, versus how many accounts are just sock puppets.
