The more of the game they can show, and the cool stuff.... fighting, magic... and not the seen it before stuff... cool "look at that!" stuff. The sooner the better. Monsters and cool animations, interesting deaths, finishing moves on bosses, that kind of stuff sells.

I agree and, presuming this stuff is already lined up for the weeks ahead, getting it out maybe sooner than they were planning to. Don't go into the last 7 days, for example, still saying, "We have great things to show you guys!" Get it all on the table in the first half of the campaign so it can soak in out there.

Sock puppet accounts MUST come into it, for some at least. And as I flag in this thread - https://forum.fracturedmmo.com/topic/4892/bit-worried-where-the-kickstarter-is/35 - I think the upshot of that is that it's given us a disjointed feel for how big the community genuinely is. Kickstarter still hasn't found 400 people willing to back it, yet this community is heaps bigger... in theory.

      Still haven't cracked 400 people 😟

I think I was right to flag this as early as I did; I've got pretty good at reading crowd-funds over the years.

But it brings me no joy to flag it at all. By now, I'd like us (even expect us), to have a couple of thousand backers at least.

having 40% in 3 days looks like it's going to be ok 🙂

The dollars look good because it's such a low total to begin with.

My worry, as laid out in the OP, is that we have quite a large community here, but still haven't cracked 400 backers yet on Kickstarter, which is an absolutely tiny amount in relative terms.

The opening day(s) of any Kickstarter is when the bulk of people dogpile on. And that hasn't happened... at least yet. Hence my worry.

I wanted this Kickstarter to go insanely well, like, raise 3 or 4 times what they were asking. Not limp along like this 😞

didn't DS already announce they had secured private funding for the game? I don't believe they are entirely reliant on the KS campaign.

They have indeed and, even if they hadn't, the amount they're looking for is way too small to finish the game. They'd need in the low millions, basically, to get it over the line in any shape or form. So, yes, there are going to be other funding sources, but I'm really hoping that's not putting people off pledging. Because clearly, when you take the size of this community and weed out some people who don't have credit cards (vocal, but a total minority), and stuff like that, it still seems there's a disconnect between how many people are in the community versus where the backing's at. Like I say, I think we've probably got a ton of sock puppet accounts here.

I'm personally more worried about how they're going to get the rest of the money for the game. €117,000 is a tiny amount for developing a simple indie single player game (unless you're doing something like Papers Please, which is essentially just one guy's salary for a year), never mind an MMO

My take is that they're asking for the minimum to get it really humming along, then sell to a publisher and/or get major cash from investors.

Chronicles of Elyria tried to do this and, thus far, still hasn't found a dancing partner. Even had to lose SpatialOS affiliation because they couldn't afford it.

Being active on the forums is cheap. When you ask for money you see true community!

Indeed. But you also need to see enough of that "true community"!

We made a pretty good start, but if we're already starting to plateau, that's a bit of a worry.

I think we'll need to end this month-long Kickstarter with at least 5000-10,000 backers.

    • RE: Let's help design the game!

Personally, I think the dev team have got this.

It's when communities think they're running a game that all manner of major issues start.

Let the devs do their thing. We'll feedback on it.

Hey Devs, pros and cons? Why play Fractured instead Albion Online?

The first thing that strikes me about comparing the two is:

Fractured is open world and Albion Online is all these stupid little instances tied together that are basically maze like.

It's a total pain in the arse to move around in Albion Online. Awful.

Personally: I decided to go ahead and put my support into the kick starter. I like what I've heard so far and even though I still have questions and I may not like all the answers I think it's a game worth seeing made and playing.

I agree with you, 100%. There's enough on the table to make the call or not.

And given only 360-something people have, I think our community size here is way off reality.

For a community of this size, the first couple of days of the Kickstarter should have seen way more activity.

I'm absolutely stoked about the design of this game, and want to see it succeed. But I still need to ask the question:

Are our community numbers padded out with fake accounts; people trying to raise their level by introducing "new" people, which are really just sock puppet accounts of their own?

man, beast, and demon seems pretty slim

There are multiple 'types' within each of those categories. And they aren't classes, anyway.

    • RE: [Discuss] The Sandbox you wish to have.

Aspects like being able to build anywhere (or at least, outside of established cities, like in Star Wars Galaxies), remains the Holy Grail of open world sandboxing to me. It places you and your stuff in the game world and even if no one ever comes inside your house, it doesn't matter because, to you, you are there, living in the game world.
