I prefer to make useful comments in threads, but sometimes I just have nothing meaningful to add to a thread and I will make a post in the daily message thread instead, just to get the daily done at least.

    • RE: VIP system : What do you think ?

VIP/Subscription on a game is nice if it's the only game you play. I like to play a lot of different games and if i would needed to pay a subscription for each of the online games I play I'd be spending over 200 euro a month, if not more, on subscriptions.
So therefor if a game requires a subscription, I walk away from it, without even looking further into the game.
I don't care about VIP either, as long as it doesn't become P2W, like some games where VIP allows you to reset dungeons or some other time gated mechanics and giving you an unfair advantage.

    • RE: VIP system : What do you think ?

This game starts to look more and more like a cashgrab.
Having to buy the game to play, + cash shop + subscription... It's like they tossed in all the different payment models they could find.

Of course a game is going to cost money. They are a business, not a charity.

We don't know all the skills, perhaps one magic school that is based around support and healing will have a spell that gives you a boon that makes the next spell cast instant (designed to do a big instant heal for that school). But you can also use that boon to instant cast a powerful attack aka Pyroblast that usually takes a few seconds to cast, but with that boon, you can cast it instantly.
Impossible to predict what people come up with.

    • RE: Personal asteroids as a form of housing

      I think it's a good idea.

And to solve the problem with guild settlements, just have guild settlements use different resources than personal housing and have guild settlements give nice bonuses (like % increase in resources/money found when killing npc's or harvesting nodes, or an % increase in chance to finding rare items/gear etc.) that people will want to have in order for them not to slack on guild settlements.

    • RE: The psychology of gaming

Problems with balancing comes usually not from a single skill, but from a combination of skills.
For instance from vanilla WoW, the Polymorph + Pyroblast combo. Both skills by themselves aren't so powerful, but when used together, it's almost always a 1 hit kill.
And it's tricky to nerf combo's as it often results in a skill or spell to become useless. Just look at Hearthstone, when they nerf a card to kill off an OP combo of cards, it pretty much always ends up the nerfed card to never be used again and often cards that worked nice with it too.

EVE is good. I played it for 5 years and have so many good stories to tell πŸ™‚
Haven't played it for a long time until recently and tried it out again as a free account, but without my friends and the alliance I used to be in. It was pretty boring.
EVE is only a good game if you have people to play with, but flying solo is boring and will probably get you killed too.

So the "perfect" game needs to have options for both. Like GW2, you can play with friends doing fractals, raids, dungeons, world bosses, map meta's etc., but there is also a lot of content you can do solo, like map completion, exploring, story missions, farming.

I love playing MMO's, but sometimes I just don't want to deal with other people.

    • RE: Which classes/gods/alignment u gonna choose? <3

I'm going to start off with a friendly beastman to get into the game and get familiar with it. But at some point I'd like to make a demon and follow the path to become an angel.

Balancing a game with different classes and builds is very hard to do. That is why you mostly see rock-paper-scissors balancing in games these days.

For me, the most important thing in an MMO is the community.
For instance, was giving GW2 a go when it went free to play and there I was, complete noob, just out of the tutorial and there was a max level guy right there. Started talking to me and ran with me doing stuff gave me some goodies to get started and giving me some tips and tricks etc.
It made me feel good and kept playing and noticed most of the community in the game is very friendly and racked up about 2000 hours in the game so far and still going strong.

On the other side. I tried DOTA2 and when joining a game, I immediately let them know I was new to the game. I was cursed at, for being a noob and not knowing how to play etc. I tried 2 more games and exactly the same thing happened. So I logged off and uninstalled that game and never looked at it ever again.

    • RE: Question about being a game tester

Being a game tester isn't always fun. You are basically working as a QA for the developers. Writing detailed bug reports on stuff you find, checking maps for gaps, glitches etc. basically doing things other than plainly playing the game in order to find the rare bugs in the game.
Especially for alpha games, as a tester you will focus more on the core of the game. Balance skills and other minor tweaks isn't the place for alpha, those can easily be fixed in beta. For an alpha testing the most important is to get the backbone for the game ready and preferably bug free as that would be a lot harder to fix later on, without having to wipe progress.

I myself really enjoy this kind of work, but it certainly not for everyone.

    • RE: Comparison to EVE?

Every game has it's trolls and gankers and salty people.
But after playing EVE for 4.5 years long time ago and playing some more recently as a free account pilot.
The community in EVE is generally very friendly and helpful. Just stay away from Goonswarm and anything affiliated with Goons.

The one thing that is like EVE is the looting. Full loot options in both games after a kill.

    • RE: Comparison to EVE?

@jetah said in Comparison to EVE?:

      @ga1ahad

I can see the 3 worlds as being relative to the system security in Eve.

Arboreus - similar to hi-sec. with the possibility to be killed from Invasions but still has really save areas.

Syndesia - similar to low-sec. invasions happen often enough to know you're simi-safe.

      Tartaros - similar to null-sec.

That is not completely true. Arboreus is like high-sec for beastmen, sure. But Arboreus is far from high-sec for demons.
Also, don't think you can claim land in Tartaros, like you can in null-sec in EVE.
