    • RE: Why does registation form promote low-security passwords?

There's basically no reason to limit the number of characters to anything lower than the maximum number the encryption algorithm can process, and there's absolutely no reason not to allow special characters (and every reason definitely to not only allow but require them)

That said, my password is both quite lengthy and uses special characters, so I don't know what you mean.

    • RE: Poll to assess the percent of players per race

I think this poll could be refined a bit more. If you don't mind, after yours expires on the 8th or so, I might make another one with adjustments:

      • Question clarification: "Which race do you currently believe your main character will be?"
      • Five options: Beastman, Human, Demon, Abomination, Angel
      • Abomination and Angel are clarified as "Evil Beastman" and "Good Demon" since it seems a lot of people still don't know about this lol
      • The post itself will go into more detail too (e.g. "Abominations are banished from Arboreus like Demons and Angels are banished from Tartaros like Beastmen")

I don't want to step on your poll before it's completed, though, so if you're okay with me doing it, I'm still gonna wait 'til the 8th or 9th

I'm a little tired of hearing "Albion???" myself, but I figured I shouldn't say anything about it. After all, taking about Albion makes me angry, and I've got enough anger.

    • RE: Meaningful Guilds?

Contrary to the ignorance shown earlier in the topic, meta PVP guilds are not all that popular if any other form of guild is viable. Elder Scrolls Online heavily encourages the formation of trade guilds to do any large-scale player trading, and every sufficiently large guild in ESO is thus a trader guild.

Since Fractured will not rely much on combat for its content, and most likely will feature a strongly segmented market like ESO, there will be a need for trade guilds. I can also see openings for freelancer guilds that do things like serve as armed escorts.

    • RE: Housing Limits?

There's a casual voxel (Minecraft-ish) MMO called Boundless which allows players to build as many houses as they want, using a beacon / plot system. Every planet is smoothly divided into square plots, and a character has a certain number they can distribute across all their beacons.

What's more, if you develop a particular beacon enough, all of its plots "reserve" the spots 2 plots out from theirs, preventing any newer beacons than yours from claiming those plots. (All plots "reserve" the plots above and below theirs regardless of prestige.)

This is balanced by the game auto-generating new planets based on player / plot count, and by the fact new characters can simply choose where on the planet they spawn, complete with a button to swap between a geographic view and a highlight-player-buildings overlay.

Also, beacons need to be fueled and will expire otherwise, causing its plots to regenerate back to a natural state soon afterward.

So, my suggestions for Fractured are:

      • New characters should be able to scroll over their starter planet and pick where to spawn. This way, new characters can just pick an unsettled area to put their house down.
      • The game should keep track of how many houses there are on each planet, updating at least once a month (or once a week would be better.) Each planet should then auto-scale or auto-expand itself thru new continents etc. to be several times larger than needed for how many houses there are, to avoid shoulder-to-shoulder syndrome. The planet never scales down if the house count drops, only up if the house count expands sufficiently.

    • RE: Haven't pledged? Want to upgrade, but not sure yet? Tell us why!

@nightcoder said in Haven't pledged? Want to upgrade, but not sure yet? Tell us why!:

Hi! I'm considering pledging for early immortal (for alpha 1 and dev forum access). Right now my three major concerns are business oriented so I'll understand if you prefer not to answer.

      1. The low Kickstarter goal - While it is logical to begin with a relatively low amount to increase the odds of the KS succeeding, €116K is at best 10% of what's needed for an ambitious project like this. I'm sure there's a plan on how to get the remaining funds but I'd presume that if it were solid there wouldn't be a need for a KS anyway. I am pretty sure that the game will reach alpha but there's a long way from that to release so I do hesitate a little bit to spend €300 if I'm not at least somehow confident that it will eventually go out of beta.

According to the team, the Kickstarter is not necessary at all! They've already secured other sources of funding from publishers and other partners.

That said, the Kickstarter will still help the game finish earlier and implement quality of life (better graphics / SFX) sooner. It's essentially a Kickstarter not for the game as a whole, but to hire certain already-hand-selected talents for specific aspects of the game.

      1. Maintenance - By its very nature an MMORPG needs to be maintained even after release and that also costs money - at the very least you need to pay to keep the servers up and running and eventually you also need to continue development (e.g. more areas, quests etc) so people continue playing. B2P is great for the players, after all everyone prefers to pay once, but that also means that there's no continuous stream of funds. The VIP membership is probably meant to cover that but I'm not sure that enough people will pay monthly for cosmetics, which may force a switch to other income models such as a paid subscription, expansion packs (i.e. only a subset of the world / quests is available to free players) or the dreaded P2W. It would help if we knew what is considered the least evil in this case. Basically I want to know that I'll be able to play the game for a long time.

"More content" is not the only solution to retain a player base. Before its horrific destruction, Star Wars Galaxies was massively popular simply because it was not a linear grind, but rather an immersive social world similar to Second Life. (It was destroyed solely and utterly by completely gutting this aspect of the game.)

Fractured is clearly aiming to replicate this True World feel, which will keep it a relevant game indefinitely so long as it can still technically run.

As said earlier, Path of Exile has neither an entry purchase nor a subscription and has been wildly successful.

      1. The use of the third part Spatial OS - I'm trying to read a little bit about it on Improbable's website but I haven't been able to figure out whether developers can run their own servers or whether they're forced to use Improbable's cloud servers, or in other words - How will the game be affected if they run out of business.

They are Improbable servers and the game staff pay by bandwidth, by number of ingame entities per hour, etc.

"Running one's own server" would eliminate the entire advantage of SpatialOS, which is the use of non-static cloud computing to run arbitrarily large virtual worlds. This is essentially a more advanced version of Second Life's server architecture.

    • RE: levels

@Xzoviac I suppose I'll have to be active until I get to 400+ then!

If I can get a ton of art commissions done or otherwise come into some fortune I might upgrade to the Eternal pack, if it's still available by then.

I'm glad it's out of your budget.

Why do people do this? It doesn't help the game at all either to try to silence criticism or to try to push potential players away.

    • RE: Fishing is a stretch goal?

The Kickstarter does not determine the success of the game. The Kickstarter's success will only allow specific, hand-picked talents to be hired much earlier and progress on "quality of life" game content to be implemented earlier.

The Kickstarter's failure will get the game back a few months but it will not destroy the game, and fishing will make it in eventually anyway.

This game can't all spawn into being at once, you see.

More seriously: I'd love a character that specializes in drive-by healing (so: fast, stats focused on healing), but I can't think of an animal that would convey this concept easily.

That would be the Hart. =p

I think a Turtle would be a good addition, though. They'd be believable in size class and the animal's stereotype hooks right into a clear role

@memokal said in im a bit worried about full loot system in term of pvp:

There should be valuable things as items. Whats the point of full loot at all if we gain nothing. There should be a little bit differencies and mid range power gaps at all. Because most of the things like terms and gameplay i concern about them to feel empty. I am just saying.. sooner or later we will experience it

Nobody ever said you'd never loot valuable items. Just that the vast majority of equipment isn't going to be worth much.

Besides, looting equipment will let you learn other race's style motifs or weapon templates you haven't got yet.

Guilds are not race-restricted! That is outdated information from an earlier game design plan.

When creating a guild, you may (must) set it as either race-restricted or alignment-restricted.

    • RE: Where is Fractured advertised?

If I recall, Prometheus has admitted the team doesn't have a dedicated and professional PR staff member.

      This is a top priority.

However, there's only so much that guy can do without the proper content to market. Dynamight absolutely needs to develop a press pack of art, mockup screens, etc. that show the direction of the game so that their eventual PR expert can spin it to its best angle.

As I've failed to elegantly assert before, many players don't understand what Fractured is - they think of it as similar to Albion Online, because the screenshots look similar (camera angle, movement style, etc.) That's a problem because Albion Online is almost the exact opposite of Fractured and these players will get the wrong idea, get mad, and leave, possibly giving bad reviews in the process.

Spotlights are all fine and dandy - I read them - but most players don't, and that's the problem. It's not that they're dumb or anything, they just have stuff to do and don't take the time to read, and it helps to have pretty pictures to quickly get the point across.

Your PR guy will handle things like catchphrases ("THREE RACES - THREE GAMEPLAYS"), search engine summaries, etc. so don't worry about that before you get him.

    • RE: Why Magic users will be OP compared to physical users

I'm not sure if I've mentioned this already, but another nerf to magic users is if magic has a cast time and can be interrupted. In Elder Scrolls Online this requires an attack marked as an interrupt, while in Ragnarok Online taking any damage is an interrupt.

    • RE: Settlements as a Solo Player

@ladyrowan said in Settlements as a Solo Player:

I believe they also mentioned that there will be haunted or abandoned towns that can be claimed. Not sure what that entails at this point but if you do it without a guild you'll have a free hamlet (?). This then can hold elections to vote on a governor. There are rules on who can run for governor and who can vote so you'll want to know those. I believe they start at hamlet and as thereputation goes up you can move into being a town.

Any town that doesn't have a single NPC or player living in it becomes an abandoned town. This includes all towns not assigned to NPCs or players at server launch.

Abandoned towns can be "haunted", which merely means that enemies are spawning in it. They don't have to be ghosts, they might just be wolves or something.

Once cleared, players can freely join the town by constructing houses on the residential plots. If even one player does this, the town becomes a Hamlet.

Hamlets have no governing body whatsoever. As players upkeep the Hamlet and perform tasks it earns Prestige and eventually becomes a proper town.

A proper town can appoint Governors and attract NPCs such as shopkeepers or guards. If it's a Free City, Governors are elected democratically. if it's a Guild City, the Governor is appointed by the guildmaster.
