I tried Mabinogi briefly once, but found it too frustrating and needlessly overcomplicated.

    • RE: Discord store announced

Fractured will probably not be using the Discord store anytime soon. I mean for starters they need to have an actual game to sell on it. This could be 3~4 years away, by which point anything could happen to the Discord store.

A lot of people are growing increasingly unhappy with Discord. Its rising star status is making it lazy and complacent; they're not on the ball about addressing user concerns like they used to be, and we still keenly feel the scars from when Microsoft acquired Skype and transformed it from the premier p2p chat service into a trash heap.

I said gender doesn't change performance in a game. what you wrote is all "feelings" unrelated to your characters performance.

Did a transgender steal your lunch money as a kid or something? You're making a problem where there isn't one.

@gothix yup. The big issues are "what do they do" and "what are their powers" - with Lion and Alligator, you round out (potentially) the 6 stat Affinities for the Beastmen, making it hard to support a 7th, unless their transformed power is notably different

Isn't that kind of OCD? I don't see how "they have the same role as another race" overrules "it would be awesome to have rabbits". Make them an exact stat clone for all I care

@fibs The default number of character slots was increased to 3 after feedback from the community.

That makes much more sense, since it's one for each race

Last I checked, players have two character slots by default.

More will be available as premium purchases, including as rewards for backing the game thru Kickstarter (concluded) / the online store (upcoming).

I think the word we're looking for here is "vapour".

I think you should stop splitting hairs and accept that 1. the mist coming off of hot food is called steam by basically every single person on Earth and 2. this tangent has nothing to do with the topic or any substance of my argument whatsoever.

Vape Steam? Sure, if you want to burn your lungs and airways. You know Steam is at least 100°C right?

Have you ever been burned by the steam coming off of a bowl of soup? I haven't.

You're using the stricter sense of "steam" which arbitrarily requires the water to be above boiling temperature, as opposed to the commonly understood definition as any form of water droplets or vapor suspended in air (which does not need to be anywhere near boiling temperature.)

An easy way to tell the difference - the former is invisible and the latter is not.

Vape juice is made from the same stuff that is used for stage smoke and gives that lung kick smokers like to get.
The biggest problem comes from the fact that flavors are not regulated by the FDA, so you have no clue what you are actually smoking when buying vape juice, because producers can put whatever they want in it.

Then do what most people do and create your own, the same way that smokers often roll their own cigarettes so they can skip all the rat poison.

It's just a conspiracy to give a "healthy" alternative for smokers.
But long term effects of vaping has yet to be researched.

In my opinion, it's just as bad. You are still breathing in stuff that is not supposed to be in your lungs.

You can control what you put in your vape - you don't control what goes into tobacco.

As I understand it, you can even put water in the thing and vape steam. I highly doubt this is as harmful as a typical cigarette

@fibs said in Massive battles: will "big numbers" always win?:

just temporarily turn off friendly fire protection for all members of a party if anyone in that party attacks a player

Seems more appropriate to turn it on for all guild members in the area. A guild trying to game that would just not have their members partied.

unless you consider a single character to be a party of one person

Having a system to determine aggressor/defender on a fight by fight basis seems overly complicated to implement (especially when considering non-partied participants)

But we already have that; the game will already recognize who is the aggressor when determining Karma consequences of fighting

who said that, as much i seen good can't attack other good and neutral, did you see anyone from DS saying otherwise??

That's my point. It wasn't planned to be a thing, but the concern over how to address exploitation of Friendly Fire rules means there may be circumstances where they can do so.

@target said in Massive battles: will "big numbers" always win?:

@fibs That's a pretty good solution for sieges, but there's still the problem of open field battles.

Well that's easy enough - just temporarily turn off friendly fire protection for all members of a party if anyone in that party attacks a player (with a direct attack or Force Friendly Fire option on an AoE.)

It turns back on if all party members KO / die or after ten seconds or so of no attacks against a player.

If you like this can be made complicated by only turning friendly fire protection off for the aggressor and not the defender.

    • RE: NO tank mages

@gothix said in NO tank mages:

@FibS if you actually read what I wrote you would see that I am not against having a particular skill be counter to another skill. I am against a particular school be a counter to another school.

When I say game being rock paper scissors, I mean particular school being paper, while another school being scissors. As long as there is a build within each school who can be viable against builds from other schools that is ok. As I wrote, schools need to be balanced between each other, not particular decks.

See a comment I wrote you in other thread where I used example of original TSW.

I'm not going to hold the same argument with you in two separate threads. This is the last reply I will give in this one.

There's nothing wrong with a school countering another school, because you can get more than one school simultaneously - the same as with skills.

In the vast majority of games, you cannot get more than one class simultaneously, if you can even get more than one at all, and usually your "maxed out" class is permanent unless you roll a new character entirely.

Also, at the meta level, there is no such thing as a game that has no hard counter classes (or equivalents thereof e.g. builds).

    • RE: Massive battles: will "big numbers" always win?

If Siege Zones turn off entity noclip - as I am told they do - they should also turn off Friendly Fire protection.

Players who don't want to be part of PVP will not be in a Siege Zone, and Arboreus has no Siege Zones to begin with, so only GVG will be affected.

The most obvious drawback is that you now have to newly plan and implement what happens when Good players attack other Good or Neutral players, as this was formerly not possible and thus not considered.

Other than this, please let me know if there is an oversight in my proposal.

@gothix said in Why Magic users will be OP compared to physical users:

It was not. Whoever didn't play original secret world has effectively missed out on greatest MMO in history [...]

Okay, but when you're done changing the topic to how amazing The Secret World was, can you go learn what a rock-paper-scissors game actually is and realize every single good video game is a rock-paper-scissors game?

I even covered it in another topic - to which you replied and basically ignored everything I said.

I'll repeat it here (with added boldface):

@fibs said in NO tank mages:

@gothix said in NO tank mages:

I personally extremely dislike rock paper scissors system. I much prefer where all classes are balanced and viable vs any other class.

Those aren't exclusive concepts. "Rock paper scissors" just means that there are moves you can use that will counter or beat other moves.

Remember that in Fractured every player can use (almost?) every skill. You won't be locked into a class that is hard-countered by an entire other class because, to continue this awkward euphemism, you can get both rock and paper on the same character.

A typical form of rock paper scissors is something like:

      • Heavy attacks destroy Block (and overrule Light Attacks)
      • You can Dodge and Counter heavy attacks
      • Blocking or Light Attacking will prevent Dodge and Counter from working

You chose to ignore this and continue to argue against a hypothetical class-beats-class system, which was relevant neither to my point nor to Fractured (which has no classes).

      No?

      Yes.

I guarantee The Secret World is also a rock-paper-scissors game. If it wasn't, it would just be a big numbers game, which is hardly skill-based.
