@dybuk said in [Discussion] Ingame currency system, what we want to get?:

      @nightcoder
[...] it is still abuse of the geo-politics. Merchants should be able to profit on buying cheap and selling high based on the production and availability of product in different places.

      Oh, you mean like money?

The value of each nation's currency is a factor both of how much of it is in circulation and how much influence its accepting nation(s) have in global affairs.

i.e. the value of money depends on supply and demand, just like everything else.

It doesn't matter that the both places have got wood, you just exploit the system being able to deliver the wood cheaper then the people who produce it locally.
      [...]
This kind of "business" would be able to do anybody without any insight into markets or without any knowledge.

      What?? No it wouldn't.

First off, you're forgetting to account for the cost of transport. This is not merely one of money but of time. Any time spent transporting a good is time not spent on acquiring value, and therefore you make less money over a given time period. This is especially problematic with the difficulty of moving between planets. People maximizing profit will account for these shipping costs and will not travel a world and a half away for 10 silver.

Secondly, the value of the product would rapidly drop within the target market(s), while the value of the rapidly dwindling local currency would go up because there was less of it in turn. It would not be a sustainable venture, especially if "everyone" is doing it.

Third, if the demand is low enough because there is already so much wood, nobody will buy wood at any price and thus nobody will choose wood to try to game the system with, they will choose something that's already profitable and vulnerable to exchange rate shenanigans.

Fourth, you wouldn't actually be consistently profiting unless you were gaming the exchange rate like playing the stock market. This is not possible for someone with allegedy zero business sense / no economic savvy.

    • RE: im a bit worried about full loot system in term of pvp

You know what's hilarious? How totally ass-backwards this "waaah we need good items for PVP to be worthwhile" argument is.

If you're playing PVP in order to get gear or resources, then you're playing crappy PVP or playing it for the wrong reasons. You're just grinding, except instead of grinding on foxes and goblins, you're grinding on players.

That's why Albion is such shit. The gameplay is not enjoyable in and of itself (PVP or otherwise) and the only motivation to keep playing it is a Skinner box-like ego trip.

You play a game because it's fun. If PVP is fun, who gives a shit what items you get from it.

      Nightmare Demon >> Dream Angel

Called it first.... and if its not ill protest

In my post, I pointed out that Nightmares will probably have illusion and fear powers - I seem to have not went with an earlier draft where I also said the corresponding Angel will probably have elucidation and rallying powers.

tl;dr I called Dream Angel first nyeh nyeh 🕶

    • RE: Character Creation: ideal build analysis, and discussion of initial attribute builds

It's much too early to be trying to examine or meta the character creation and which builds are "ideal".

You're going to be doing this with the biases of other existing games, when Fractured is taking a completely different approach - you'll just be frustrated when all your time and math doesn't check out.

    • RE: Just for to clarify the pledges

@jozef I think they're using "Palace" to just mean a very nice estate, like a hacienda. That would fit with a noble while still being below a "Manor" which usually belongs to a baron or other semi-official governmental figure.

What?! A "Nurse" angel? What's that?! Are you picturing in your mind a sexy, half-naked winged lady with big boobs taking care of infirm heroes? 😄 😉

That is exactly what I am picturing lol

Too bad nobody's ever heard seen a nurse angel before Overwatch and mistakenly thinks Mercy invented this old trope

    • RE: Open Beta

      @nightcoder @Jetah

As far as I'm concerned, the beta is neither open nor closed. It isn't open because it isn't free, and it isn't closed because it isn't invite-only or number-restricted. (The prealpha is thus a closed prealpha.)

So I guess we'll call it a buy-in beta since that's what it is. Other than the Early Bird offers, there isn't a strict limit to how many people can get in, so long as they buy in before the offer is over.

@nightcoder said in Whats the game engine?:

@fibs So basically it takes away the need to deal with the headache of the networking sides of the game, right?

They basically just need to "rent" some SpatialOS usage, set up the game rules and administrator tools, and do the client in Unity. I think all the leg work is done by SpatialOS

    • RE: What elevates Fractured above similar games like Albion Online?

Fractured is almost the exact inverse / opposite of Albion Online.

      • Albion is heavily gear-dependent. Your skills come from your gear and each material is a linear upgrade over the previous in a sequence. Fractured is not; your skills belong to your character, and all materials are equal in power with different stat spreads.
      • Albion has a linear "order of risk" for difficulty regardless of playstyle (e.g. fighter vs. crafter). Low level is no PVP, mid level is semi-PVP, high level is badlands PVP. Fractured has three entirely separate planets with full content at all levels of play for PVE, "lawful" PVP, and badlands PVP. Nobody who prefers one planet will ever "need" to go to another one for basic progression.
      • Albion has a clear gradient of "tier" moving from "starter zones" to tier 8 zones. Fractured does not; relative difficulty of areas will be peppered pseudo-randomly and may change dynamically depending on player activity. Of course, the game does not have strict tiers to begin with.
      • Albion has an explicit gate between all game zones. Fractured has no transitions or loading screens between any game zones, except possibly if you were to move from one planet to another or otherwise teleport.
      • Albion scams you with premium items (e.g. vanity items) that are actual items thus they 1. affect gameplay 2. don't let you pick the stats of one item and the appearance of another and 3. can be lost, stolen, deleted, etc. All Fractured premium items are floating account-wide unlocks that are not items and cannot be lost (as they should be.)
        • In the case of premium furniture, I presume that you must disassemble the furniture back to its crafting mats to move it, and only a premium user has the blueprint to make it again, thus a non-premium character can't pick up a copy and take it.
      • Fractured has no other scammy pay to win features such as personal islands only premium users can purchase or upgrade (and that are necessary for guilds to function.) Cities behave identically for all players with the sole exception that players who purchase a Governor pack will be the Governor of a City at launch.

So many misconceptions and completely idiotic questions (e.g. "do Governors get a magic give me my town back button if we lose our town???") about Fractured clearly stem from being used to Albion's broken scammy p2w gameplay like a Stockholm Syndrome victim.

Please check everything you know about Albion at the door; Fractured is unlike it in any way except its camera angle, and God bless that.

@xionmuteki said in Kickstarter Update - Stretch Goals Revealed:

I'd not all stretch goals are reached in time, I could see the remaining rewards becoming either possible additions with future patches/expacs or made available through the in-game store.

The Kickstarter featured two kinds of stretch goals.

      • x backers goals, which gave new cosmetics only for Kickstarter backers. All of these goals were met, but only the 1,050 Kickstarter backers will get them.
      • Euro number goals, which give new perks to everyone who plays the game. Only the 110k was met, but the rest will continue to be funded thru purchases on the game site.

NPCs move in as your town gains Prestige, kind of like Animal Crossing.

@nightcoder said in Whats the game engine?:

@specter I never truly understood what SpatialOS provides...

SpatialOS is a dynamic cloud computing solution for server hosting. The main two perks I'm aware of from its fancy-pants technology are:

      • Any number of players in the same area without any risk of server lag or crashing
      • No transitions or loading times when traveling across the game world

You should read literally anything about the game.

There is no open beta; the only way to play the game before release is to purchase a pre-release pack. You can also win a prealpha key through the Foundation but this will not give access to alpha or beta, or to the full game.

You just missed the Kickstarter, but these packs will return for purchase on the site shortly!

      @specter said in Cross-Race Guilds:

@fibs Actually, guilds are planet-restricted these days. If you can live permanently on a planet, you can join a guild belonging to that planet. In the case of Syndesia, Humans, Beastmen and Angels can all join Syndesia guilds.

I figured it was something like that now, it seems like the simplest approach. I'll remember this for the future

    • RE: Anything similar to this?

Fractured is the exact inverse of Albion Online.

Albion is a faux-open-ended game that nonetheless has a strictly tiered progression system and still forces you into hardcore PVP at the high end. In addition, due to how difficult it is to raise skill in anything, most players are forced to specialize and group up.

Fractured has no vertical character progression to speak of; there is no early or endgame, the entire thing is just a sandbox. It's not very hard at all to raise skills and one player can comfortably solo unless they get grouped on repeatedly by gankers (in which case an Angel or something can come help you out.)
