      @wolefie said in Meaningful Guilds?:

Are you saying the only big guilds in ESO are tradeguilds?
Because that would still make other guilds feel a bit redundant, wouldn't it?

ESO is only moderately more open-ended than typical MMOs, and the persistently strong reliance on a rich guild to do any effective player trading means that all worthwhile guilds are trader guilds. They may also be Cyrodiil guilds, RP guilds, etc. but trading is the common factor of every large ESO guild.

As a consequence, most big ESO guilds have lofty demands of their members, namely trade quotas. Hopefully Fractured is a bit less uniform than that. I hate being obligated into high guild performance. =/

@thudaron said in Knowledge / Quests relations:

There will be zones where you need specific spells e.g. if you are fire mage you won't deal fire dmg to volcano dungeon type monsters, so you will need to aquire another set of spells or weapon. When it comes to mastering the game it's more like MOBA. Being a veteran means you know spells, how they interact with environment, how to counter them etc. It's more about game knowledge than better EQ.
There will be quests but not the usual MMO type as far as I know.

As I understand it, the game will have no formal quests given by an NPC and kept in a journal. It will have an achievement-like system to discover and level up skills, though.

Demons will be required to form guilds just like any other race. More so, actually, because lone demons will be unable to seize a foothold and won't have a flag to rub in everybody's face.

    • RE: Stats / Characters retained from Beta / Alpha

@nightcoder said in Stats / Characters retained from Beta / Alpha:

@fibs Technologically there's no need to wipe everything each time. For instance, It's hard to imagine that an update can break selected names. Obviously there may be some radical changes (e.g. DB scheme change) that can make it very difficult to migrate old data, therefore wiping may make more sense, as the game is still in alpha anyway.

Practically, if you wipe any character data, you should wipe all character data. An ingame "reset" doesn't really count as a wipe, such as refunding all learning points because you changed how a skill works, or how skills work in general. A wipe would be to reset everything to 0.

I'm sure Fractured will offer name reservation that will persist through wipes.

From a gaming point of view though it does make sense a little bit of sense since on each phase more people are allowed access (according to the Kickstarter) so it's more fair if you don't have to compete against people who have already been in the game for a while and made progress.

Wiping is necessary simply because errors in game balance or glitches will give exploiting players distinct advantages that are impossible for future players to use because the exploit has been patched. In particular, any "fast money" exploit will damage the entire game economy thru inflation, which is an obstacle to new players, something that Fractured is particularly keen on avoiding.

But then again - In alpha you basically want to test features so it's actually better to have some players that can perform more advanced... eh, stuff (I have no idea how to call that in this type of game).

I wouldn't be surprised if alpha testing had intentionally accelerated progress or "cheats" turned on for testing purposes. (Which would warrant a wipe once this acceleration was removed!)

    • RE: Meaningful Guilds?

Contrary to the ignorance shown earlier in the topic, meta PVP guilds are not all that popular if any other form of guild is viable. Elder Scrolls Online heavily encourages the formation of trade guilds to do any large-scale player trading, and every sufficiently large guild in ESO is thus a trader guild.

Since Fractured will not rely much on combat for its content, and most likely will feature a strongly segmented market like ESO, there will be a need for trade guilds. I can also see openings for freelancer guilds that do things like serve as armed escorts.

I'm sure you've heard of Markiplier. https://www.youtube.com/user/markipliergame He's done sponsorships for games before, mostly for semi-idle build-a-base mobile games in the Clash of Clans style. He's recently started doing streams too, which might be more compatible with the game in later development. It's insane how much pull power he has even when he's trying to avoid it and if you can get him on board it will be a huge boost

There's also DashieXP, whose gaming channel is DashieGames. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCERUmrDh9hmqEXBsnYFNTIA He's done sponsored videos too, primarily with Ubisoft, and he made it into a voice acting role for Transformers once. As an entertainer his character is a vulgar wannabe gangster and he often skips reading / lore / dialogue, so you might want to consider that before asking him to act as a spokesperson lol

Both would most likely perform better if they were able to show extended gameplay, Dashie in particular.

    • RE: Poll to assess the percent of players per race

I think this poll could be refined a bit more. If you don't mind, after yours expires on the 8th or so, I might make another one with adjustments:

      • Question clarification: "Which race do you currently believe your main character will be?"
      • Five options: Beastman, Human, Demon, Abomination, Angel
      • Abomination and Angel are clarified as "Evil Beastman" and "Good Demon" since it seems a lot of people still don't know about this lol
      • The post itself will go into more detail too (e.g. "Abominations are banished from Arboreus like Demons and Angels are banished from Tartaros like Beastmen")

I don't want to step on your poll before it's completed, though, so if you're okay with me doing it, I'm still gonna wait 'til the 8th or 9th

@Gibbx @SunLion I do not care much for what you want. 15k registered users and only 500 have taken a ks package.
do you want to stop defending this ks campaign? everyone wants access to the alpha without spending too much. no one supports the game by purchasing the beta package to play in 2 years. stop giving your pointless opinion. the user has decided that he does not want to spend 150 euros to play alpha

I appreciate you coming in here to perfectly illustrate the concept that the toxic manchildren on the forum are really dragging down enjoyment of the game.

I'm pretty sure you don't believe a word of that tripe and are just trying to convince everybody else that the game is failing and make us associate negativity with it, so that it will fail, because you have some petty need to make Fractured fail. I'd rather you didn't succeed in that regard because children should not have the power of kings, and so I'll address your horrible point for everyone else's sake.

The number of forum users and the success of promotions like Kickstarter are not related. That is because literally anybody can come over here and make an account, or two, or three, regardless of their interest level or how much or how little they know about the game. Many forum users are from the freemium MMO community and never had any intention of paying a dime for this game under any circumstances. That's why there are so many topics asking if Fractured will be free-to-play, long after the pricing structure has been formally announced in detail.

Kickstarter campaigns are unintuitive in that they don't have more activity earlier in the campaign, but rather often scrape through on the final day almost like everyone is trying to auction snipe. for example, Them's Fighting Herds looked like it was failing until the last few hours suddenly launched it up to some 130% of its baseline. Fractured might do the same.

Besides, Fractured has already accounted for the possibility of the Kickstarter failing. Its failure would only mildly reduce the game quality and slow down development, but the team still has deals and resources lined up to ensure the game gets out eventually.

As said before, it's not at all necessary to make it into beta or alpha. You can just pay 20 Euros now to get at least twice that value later.

@nightcoder said in Is the game will be F2P?And more?:

I have to admit that I'm a bit concerned about that. Pay once is obviously best for us but it might eventually not be enough to keep the servers running.

Fractured has already secured a means of keeping server costs incredibly low.

Right now the main reason I haven't pledged anything isn't something Fractured has control over - it's that Kickstarter doesn't accept Paypal. You have to put in your card directly.

My bank is currently giving me hassles with said card and it can't be used directly in transactions, so I can't pledge thru Kickstarter. 😞

    • RE: Pay 2 Win?

Fractured will not be pay 2 win by any means, and the benefits noted under VIP will not give any such advantage.

The primary argument I've heard is that advancing character learning points (i.e. EXP) is pay 2 win. This is not true in a typical MMO because all players who reach the same power cap are equal regardless of how long it takes to get there, and it is especially untrue in Fractured where the power cap is met extremely early and character progress is non-vertical to begin with. This faulty logic would make character slots pay 2 win too, as it is faster to make multiple characters with their own builds than it is to grind these builds on the same character, because one character has to wait in between each skill they choose to train and several characters don't.

Another argument claims that any premium item that can be traded (with other players) for ingame currency is pay 2 win, but this argument shows a gross misunderstanding of even basic economy. As the currency thus granted to premium players is traded, not generated, premium benefits will become gradually less valuable while regular items become more valuable, thus the economy will balance itself out. However, I disapprove of any VIP benefit that reduces or removes ingame currency costs, because that is generating money out of thin air for VIP users, and also hastens currency inflation.

tl;dr Fractured does not reward players who have All The Skills or Top Gear to begin with, and reaching its power cap is so fast that the EXP boost will have precisely zero effect on competitive viability, therefore it is not pay 2 win.

    • RE: Now think Clearly Here

Factions will not be determined by race, I don't think, but more by alignment. Of course, each race leans towards a specific alignment.

Most players will select a Beastman as their first character, which will give Good-based groups a number advantage. Humans will be the most common characters among veterans due to their benefits of accessibility, with most leaning towards Evil, while most Demons will just stay on Tartaros putting buckets on their heads and ramming into each other. A minority of Demons made up of wannabe pro PVPers and, more rarely, actual pro PVPers will leave Tartaros seeking challenge. (We will see a huge number of invading demons early in the game that will drop off sharply within the weeks after launch, punctuated by crying and whining that demons don't have free run of all 3 planets.)

There will be very few Abominations and Angels, the latter being rarer. These will be especially targeted by the community both as idols (mostly former) and as victims (mostly latter).

All in all, I expect Good and Evil to be roughly equal in representation, with Neutral at a moderate but noticable third place. Players who remain Neutral will be the chillest and care the least about ingame drama, Evil players and new Beastmen will be the least chill imaginable.

    • RE: Losing interest...

Oh, the forum toxicity is expected. I've been on the Internet since the AOL Hometown days, so I'm pretty savvy in my expectations of communities.

Despite knowing ahead of time, it definitely affects my engagement on the forum and I expect it to compromise the game too - that and I'm basically just running out of meaningful things to say and losing track of the evolving info in the spotlights so I can say it without looking like an idiot.

Again, it's not really Fractured's fault. I just have very bad habits in my expectations and disappointments with MMOs and I need to detach a bit from the game or else it will just end up being an unhealthy relapse for me.

I'm real sorry to see that the Kickstarter isn't advancing as hoped. On the plus side, they were planning for only some of the Kickstarter offers to be available after Kickstarter, but if it fails (which means nobody gets any of their Kickstarter tiers at all anyway) then we may get another opportunity to acquire these tiers through the site later, when I might have the spending budget to join in.

I think if they try another Kickstarter later, when they have more assets and content reflecting the game's unique offers distinguishing it from other MMOs, it will be much more successful. It's just too early in development to convince the public that it's worthwhile compared to the cookie-cutter asset flips that dominate the market.
