    • RE: Abomination idea

The wendigo is a part of American aboriginal culture / religion dating back hundreds if not thousands of years. It is a malicious spirit and taboo whose mention draws it to possess people and turn them into cannibalistic zombies, as portrayed in Until Dawn. Many modern tribesmen resent its replacement in popular culture with that zombie-deer thing, which was conceived in the 1970s or so.

So I say: don't call it that. The deer people are called Erwydra or whatnot, so instead of Wendigo, make up more fantasy babble.

The human transformation into a Lich is more similar to a proper Wendigo than whatever the deerkin would turn into.

    • RE: What to expect on an "alpha state" game?

Game development has become very superficial and sensational post-2000. Many developers use words like alpha / beta / early access as marketing blurbs instead of terms that coherently mean things. The playerbase doesn't seem interested in smartening up to not fall for these shams anymore.

Because of this, many people don't understand when a game says "alpha" and actually means alpha. An alpha is not feature-complete. An alpha isn't even fully playable. Alphas are prone to crashing or losing data for no clear reason. Alphas are generally not very enjoyable to play and they are not expected to be!

Most people will be happier if they play the game during beta, when the game is more stable and most experiments and changes are for specific features or optimum interfaces.

Despite this, it seems that most of the community is happy with Fractured's alpha so far, and from what little I played, it's surprisingly complete as a simple online game. Nowhere near everything on the roadmap, of course, but what's currently there is serviceable.

    • RE: Hello a few questions

      Hello!

Fractured is so named because, in the story, what was once one planet was split into three (alongside a ton of smaller asteroids.) Once completed, Fractured will take place across these three planets, which each have their own game rules:

      • Arboreus is the "Good" planet and home to the Beastmen. Open PVP is not possible on this planet, and Evil characters such as Demons will be forcibly ejected. The vast majority of Arboreus's surface is an instant kill to Evil characters, while the limited area they can enter will repel them within minutes.
      • Syndesia is the "Neutral" planet and home to the Humans. Mostly-open PVP is permitted with a justice system similar to Ultima Online. Demons can temporarily manifest on Syndesia but suffer a strong debuff and will be expelled after a few hours - except when Tartaros eclipses Syndesia, during which Demons have no limitations.
      • Tartaros is the "Evil" planet and home to the Demons. Lawless PVP is permitted everywhere outside of a small noob area equivalent to a nesting ground. The only law is that imposed by the strongest.

All three planets have their own early, middle, and endgame; there is no "graduation" between them to progress through the game. If it turns out that some planets have more desirable materials, players will most likely become merchants and hawk them between planets anyway, so their inhabitants won't need to go get them themselves.

It is possible for Beastmen, who begin Good, to malafest themselves into Abominations by turning Evil. They will then be treated identically to Demons in this planet system.

It is also possible for Demons, who begin Evil, to recreate themselves as Angels by turning Good. They will then be treated identically to Beastmen in this planet system.

So far as I know, these transformations are not reversible.

    • RE: Any advice for a new player?

I'm not sure whether it will be possible to create player-run inns or shops in the coming alpha - or whether it will be possible in the full game, for that matter.

I would suggest making your first character a physical fighter. The start of the game is much easier that way, or was the last time I played alpha.

    • RE: Once again, are there any info on how the founder cottage|villa will look?

I'm not aware of any concept art of the pack-exclusive house plans. I'd presume that, for fairness's sake, there aren't any that are larger than the largest plan available to all players normally ingame, but what they actually look like is beyond me.

    • RE: Finally!! Mounts, Fast Travel and Map Markers!!!

@ErinOwOErin As one of the earliest MMORPGs - indeed it is credited with coining the term - Ultima Online was a very unbalanced game, at least as it continued to add more and more content and change more and more existing gameplay concepts to attempt to stay relevant in the evolving genre.

In real life (who cares about that am I right), not every fighter who rode was actually trained to fight on horseback, nor was this necessarily intuitive or better when they were - the zweihander and other specialized weapons were designed specifically to confront riders.

In many MMOs, you're not even allowed to fight mounted - your mount vanishes when you enter combat and must be summoned again afterward. (In Elder Scrolls Online, your mount's stamina acts as its HP, and you're dismounted and Stunned if it expires from an attack. IIRC you can get a perk that makes your mount not use any stamina ever to last longer in combat.)

But in the MMOs where you can fight mounted, it is almost always a complete improvement with no downsides to do so. You move faster, you sometimes hit harder, and you almost always get an HP boost. This means that absolutely nobody "competitive" will ever not be on a mount, and therefore, everyone will have these giant gaudy show-off mounts the way some games let you get massive stupid-looking angel wings and auras and rainbow-colored armor.

The only time I played Ultima Online for more than a few minutes, I was ambushed by over a dozen high-end PKers all riding huge, six-legged "swamp dragons", who cornered me the the same as if it was a dozen dudes on foot piling up on me to punch my ribs.

Mounted combat can easily make an MMO look completely ridiculous and generally introduces a huge power gap, both of which can turn away basically all players other than min-maxers.

    • RE: New Alpha Price & Founder Pack Sale

It is unbelievably entitled to try to claim wrong or damage because there's a promotional sale or deal sometime after your purchase.

    • RE: How to redeem level rewards

This depends on the reward and when that reward is implemented in the game.

In the case of Foundation points, I believe these are redeemed nearly instantly. They're certainly redeemed instantly if you purchase a pack, at least.

Many of the Foundation rewards are aesthetic, such as costumes or pets, and are not likely to be implemented until close to 1.0.

    • RE: Asteroids, Labyrinth and world Bosses

@Farlander Vertical and horizontal growth are not and cannot be exclusive. It is very difficult to have zero-lateral in any RPG growth system. It is impossible to have zero height; if you did, it would not be growth.

Even in the alpha that I played, crafting gear was oblique. The chosen base material (e.g. any of 5+ different leathers) added permanent effects, some of which are just plain better than others. There's also a complicated enchantment system.

"Endgame" would mean materials to craft armor that has like 80% magic resist or some other really high benefit like that.

Is this guild at all related to or named after Meridian 59, credited as the first 3D MMO?

It is of absolutely no benefit to anyone to tell people not to express their opinion.

Which I didn't, don't be a baby, please and thank you.

What I told you is a fact: whatever your or my opinion is on the alpha assets is irrelevant, as alpha assets have no bearing on the art direction or quality of future assets, ergo neither does feedback on them.

Alpha assets are not rough sketches that are refined into beta or 1.0 assets. They are rushed stand-ins that are wholly discarded and replaced with completely new assets. Only these new assets will be worth critiquing, and it is likely we will be shown concept art and early models to critique more relevantly at that time.

Until then, none of this discussion means beans.

    • RE: Whats in the future graphically.

It is of absolutely no benefit to anyone to discuss or critique the graphics of a game that is still in alpha, especially 3D. The assets in this stage of development are on a strictly functional basis.

Updating the graphics to a 1.0 standard will be one of the last priorities and will most likely go hand-in-hand with optimization.

    • Hello, I'm back! I've upgraded to Legend!

I had no idea there was a sale or anything, I just randomly decided to show up again.

I'm surprised and happy to see that my previous pack (Master) and my new pack (Legend) will be able to participate in Alphas from here on out!

However, I don't know if I'll be able to participate in the October test, because that's my birthday and I'll also be attempting Artober. I could probably "cheat" and start drawing right now so that I can just post an image each day and then go play. As long as it's one image a day for 30 days it should be fine.

Is character name reservation available yet or no? I would presume it won't be fully implemented until all races are in, probably sometime in beta, but you know what happens when you presume. You put pressure on you and me.

    • RE: Physical Immune enemies should be removed.

@Nekrage Which is perfectly fine - abilities will not be unique to one enemy and you will not need 100% research of every single creature. You'll be the only one forcing yourself to do that.

    • RE: Why we need attribute respec options.

@Nekrage They need to stop pretending they don't have experience points and simply treat Knowledge Points like experience points. You get more for fighting an enemy that isn't 100%, but you keep getting them after.

1000 is in line with the current alpha, it would need to be higher once the game content was finished. It could also be proportionate to how much KP has been spent on Talents and Skills.

    • RE: Physical Immune enemies should be removed.

In the final game, physical-immune enemies (i.e. Wisps) will not need to be removed, because the world will be massive and diverse enough that you will not be required to fight them

    • RE: Why we need attribute respec options.

I stand by my previous idea that Knowledge Points should be used to reallocate stats.

Specifically, you can refund stats at a rate of 1000 KP per each point you get for lowering the stat.

Why this game is not fun:

      • it's in alpha with literally less than 10% of the content of the game implemented, and what is implemented is barely serviceable
