Elder Scrolls Online allows all guilds to design a tabard for their members to wear.

Be wary that the more options in the design, the more haha i made a peepee guilds and the more work for moderators.

    • RE: Guild Halls/Hubs?

Considering that Arboreus does not allow PVP, my ideal solution would be for prefabricated buildings that players and guilds non-violently compete for. As guilds are not race-locked but alignment-locked, any competitive guild would be unsatisfied with these buildings and would pass them on to the next guild once they moved on to constructing a proper guild castle in Syndesia (or became an Evil guild and were ousted from Arboreus.)

Yes, just adding that evil aligned players not only pk, but also take part in raids and sieges

PKers don't play real PVP because they aren't good enough to play real PVP. That's why they PK.

      @fibs

Maybe not a year, but it should certainly take a lot of time. If it's too easy, everyone will have one, and if everyone has a legendary weapon, no one has a legendary weapon.

It's an MMO. On your screen, you ARE the only one with a legendary weapon, just like you're the only one who took the quest to beat the demon and save the world (like everybody else is doing).

It's not possible or desirable to try to make an MMO actually make 99% of its player base nobodies "to be realistic". That's just stupid and pretentious.

there isn't much fair risk/reward when traveling to a planet and you get a 20% reduction in stats.

It's almost like you shouldn't do it or something.

This should take months or maybe a year or more.

Absolutely not. That's how much time I should spend making a real legendary sword, not a pretend one.

yet the very emote system was put in to help RP'ers. costumes, transmog and other means to see pretty gear yet have the stats of bis was also for RP. there are mechanics that help RPing.

Emotes are not a mechanic, nor do they benefit RP in any way - contrarily, I rather think they should be avoided, as they betray that you're unable to express your character in actual writing and look very unprofessional.

Vanity was not "made for RP". Vanity is of interest to every player equally: casual players love to look cool, PVP edgelords love to look cool, and even the developers benefit from vanity systems because it makes it a ton easier to develop good-looking trailers using gameplay footage (which also benefits fan-made videos.)

As an aside, the transmogrification system is an utterly stupid, self-undermining half-step and I despise it. Either let me pick anything I want to display in any of my slots within three seconds or don't bother me.

There's a way to make this work by making it very rare and random; don't let the players name their weapons anytime they want, and instead implement a system where, after a really tough fight, your weapon has a tiny chance to become "Legendary"

I was planning a similar system for my own MMO somewhere 20 years down the line.

I'd decided that weapons in most of our myths were not created legendary, they became legendary by the deeds of their wielders, and therefore your weapon would gain fame as you fought with it.

You would be locked at certain fame tiers until you completed objectives - very similar to how Fractured already handles skills - which would compose the Great Feats attached to the legend of your weapon.

After completing these objectives, you'd be able to reforge your sword thru several tiers, using increasingly mythical items per tier. The new traits and stats of the weapon would depend on which objectives you fulfilled, e.g. if you slayed dragons with it you'd be reforging it into a dragonslaying sword. Eventually, you'd be able to name your mega ultra infinity sword +5000.

At this point the weapon would become loosely bound to you. You could still lose the item, but the game would track it for you to retrieve as a Life Objective. In the event that it was "deleted" (sold to an NPC etc.) the game would keep its data hidden somewhere and would eventually spawn it back for you at another time under some excuse, such as an orc chief suddenly becoming really powerful and when you go fight him he's got your sword and you have to beat him and take it back.

Once your sword became legendary enough, NPCs would begin to know you by the same name as your sword (similarly to samurai).

My game was also going to have prefab'd legendary weapons belonging to story characters. Only one copy of each could exist on the server at a time and if a player owner logged off for a month or something the game would just take it away and make up a dynamic quest about where it ended up. (Also the NPCs would usually try to get their weapons back.)

@finland said in Can you be a thief?:

Would be useless to have endurance if you can be looted without be killed.

No it wouldn't? Running out of endurance is like fainting, and you "respawn" right where you are if nobody kills you by the time you recover.

As seen in the prealpha game footage, most wild animals will stop attacking after you faint - so even if you dropped your gear, you'd be able to pick it right back up and continue playing.

I would presume other players can also resuscitate you while you're in Swoon state. They can't do that if you Die For Real and have to respawn.

I think you should be able to loot Swooned players. You get Thief and bad karma for doing so, but you won't be flagged a Murderer because you didn't kill them. You either mugged them, or you took advantage of them when something else KO'd them.

@exelementz said in Correlation between School and Alignment (Poll):

@gothix The games seems to be based on not being limited with skills by the choices you make, so unless healing is strictly limited to good(or neutral?) players because they follow certain gods, there's a pretty good chance all races and alignments will get access to healing skills. Also, some other common support/healing type "classes" such as bard doesn't seem like it would be religion focused, more lore focused, so there's always more options like that.

He's not asking if the game will correlate them by force. He's polling to see whether the playerbase will correlate them by choice.

And absolutely there will be Evil healers, they'll be needed in Tartaros castle sieges.

So if these resources aren't special why do others covet them?

Because Arboreus lets you gather resources without being ganked by campers 24/7. PKers of any race are unable to enter the bulk of Arboreus.

I wouldn't expect a prealpha any sooner than November this year. This gives us plenty of time to build up Foundation points and/or set aside funds for the Kickstarter that's launching in the next month or two.

@kellewic said in I want to get excited but...:

There is this universe of planets with 3 distinct races. It seems most people playing Humans or Beastmen (specifically) don't want to deal with PvP and the Demons should just stick to killing each other. So basically we end up with what every other MMO has except we call the segregation planets instead of servers (yawn).

      Wrong.

Characters on different servers are completely unable to play with one another, except for extremely limited cross-server events which tend to be chaotic mass guild wars or world bosses.

In Fractured, Arboreus is a strictly Good (PvE) planet, Tartaros is a strictly Evil (PvP) planet, and Syndesia is the meeting grounds for both of them. Players will be perfectly free to go to any of the three planets they desire, although Good-aligned players are harshly limited on Tartaros and Evil-aligned players are harshly limited on Arboreus.

When I first read the proposition of this game, I was like... WOW, a thriving universe where these Demons are a threat (maybe not persistent due to the disadvantages), but something Humans and Beastmen can not, and should not, ignore. Sure, Demons fight among themselves as is their nature, but when properly motivated could be a devastating war band across other planets.

On Syndesia, they can absolutely do this.

      On Arboreus, however, no.

Disadvantages aside; I guarantee Demons will find a way to invade Human and Beastmen territories - it's their nature.

They won't be able to invade Beastman territories because Evil-aligned characters (of any race) are completely unable to enter the bulk of Arboreus. The few areas they will be able to enter will see them effectively burned away by the planet itself.

What happens in most of these MMOs is the people who want no part of PvP start complaining

despite having an entire planet to themselves, I fully agree that they will, just as the cowardly PK scrubs will whine they can't PK on all three planets

devs listen and lessen the PvP aspect and now we just have another WoW or PoE (which I love btw).

Path of Exile is a closer game to Fractured than WoW by far, but only in the very basic gameplay. It's like comparing Super Mario 3D World to Super Mario Odyssey.

Will the true PVE'ers just give up and leave because they don't want Demons invading?

Not likely, considering that demons can't invade the PvE planet.

The problem is most people are risk averse; even those who PvP, which is why most people try to stack the deck in their favor (low-level ganking, traveling in large groups, etc). How will this game combat that? Will Demons be able to "raid" Humans and Beastmen (even at a disadvantage?). If not, then really how is this game any different than others?

You should probably read the Spotlights.

The Knowledge concept is cool, but really not much different than gaining experience for doing basically the same tasks.

The Knowledge system is based on achievements, not experience points.

[...] the possibility that a group of Demons could invade while I'm out doing whatever (hell, or even other Humans) might make me pay a bit more attention to what's going on rather than mindlessly wandering around. The concept that there may be Human spies for Demon factions, or even Beastmen spies in extreme situations. Or Demon "traitors" that help Humans and Beastmen. Now that interest me.

Absolutely players of any race will be able to "screencheat" and pass information outside of the game to other players, but I doubt this will have a profound effect compared to any other MMO as it simply isn't an efficient practice. Any gang that was devoted enough to do that regularly would rather just have two powerful killers instead of one powerful killer and an otherwise-useless spotter.

    • RE: Demon to Angel

The only details given so far are that Demons who become Good-aligned become Angels and Beastmen who become Evil-aligned become Abominations.

Surely they'll eventually add a new aesthetic for this - hopefully one that is previewable on character creation - but nothing has yet been said on that count.

I'm honestly concerned about game balance, and how the devs take it into account. I'm sure we will see some sort of imbalanced build within a few weeks of launch, and it is going to ruin a lot of fun before it is turned into trash. It has happened too many times before.

I doubt that. The unbalanced builds will be caught as they become possible in each alpha and beta stage. A few new ones may crop up temporarily after launch if additional skills are added.

@jetah said in What unusual weapon types would you like to see?:

As I read the comments I just wondered "why can't we use anything as a weapon?" if you're out hunting and your weapon breaks, grab a branch. a group wants to raid your villa, grab a cattle prod. you're in the field planting potatoes an someone wants to sneak you, use the Sai as a weapon or the hoe if you were tilling the soil.

I like the idea of improvised weapons, especially given how environmental the game design is. Maybe these improvised weapons can be used as bases to create more permanent armament.

This would also help with "my character can't beat this dungeon" concerns by adding environmental weapons specifically designed to turn useless characters into mediocre characters in the context of the dungeon. For instance, a character with no fire damage would be able to pick up torches, but an actual fire mage would still have higher damage output.
