    • RE: Consumable Currency

Path of Exile has extreme inflation, what are you talking about? Compare season League prices to Standard.

That's because consuming Orbs et al to improve items isn't any different economically from paying gold to an NPC (i.e. consuming it) to improve items.

The main defense against inflation in Path of Exile is that inventory space is limited, thus the speed at which value can be gained is limited.

The real reason for inflation in MMOs is simply because currency has no grounding in reality and therefore is generated rapidly and infinitely. The only counter to this is to monitor the active playerbase size & habits and create / enforce an arbitrary and proportionate cap on how much currency can exist at once.

    • RE: Religions

Existing game documentation (Spotlights etc.) confirm that choice of god affects gameplay. I think it might give stats boosts, god-specific Talents, increased damage / resistance against certain kinds of enemies, etc.

Chances are that both beastmen and humans have a god who hates undead, gives the Turn Undead spell, etc.

@kairosval said in Will there be a way to change your Attributes?:

However, the overall point of attribute distributions is that they're supposed to be permanent to make your character your character. The attribute distribution should be a decision that has consequences - because in the absence of consequences, the decision is kind of meaningless.

Okay, stop right there. This is a pitfall that has killed a lot of games for me and I'd rather not see it happen here too. That pitfall is when the game is self-contradictory for the sake of some fallacious conceit or another.

The philosophy you just gave us is directly contradicted by every single element of the game that is not the raw character attributes as well as by common sense. Do your Talents not matter because you can respec them easily? Does your gear not matter because you can change your clothes? Does the planet you're on not matter because you can go to another planet more-or-less freely depending on your race and alignment?

Of course that isn't how it works, and it doesn't apply to character attributes either.

The romantic concept of "yours tailored to you" is defined by adjustment over time. Nobody is born out of the womb the exact person they want to be as an adult, and many people make mistakes, scrap ideas and make big changes to their plans.

I guarantee you the attributes I first pick for any character are not going to be the ones I want to keep even if I'm still making new characters years after the game's release, just like the Talents I first pick aren't going to be what I want to go with. It is absolutely necessary that players are able to change their stats just like they can change their Talents, for all of the exact same reasons.

And just like Talents have a limitation on how quick you can learn them, when you can respec, and when you can swap hotbar slots, stats should also have a limitation on when and how they can change so that players aren't ever-shifting slime-demon Mary Sues. But "basically never at all" is completely stupid and bluntly contrary to every other aspect of not only this game's explicit design but good game design in general.

    • RE: Economy and PvE

Fractured will be very player-driven! It sounds to me like players will make farms & ranches and farm most raw materials on Arboreus, process them into ingots et al mostly on Syndesia, and find the really rare high-tier PVP gear stuff on Tartaros.

There's probably a bit of all three on each planet but they each specialize.

[...] Charisma serves a very different purpose from Intelligence, and we don't expect players to generally raise one if they raise the other.

Unless you're a summoner or necromancer, of course. As I understand it, Charisma is the "bard stat" that determines the ability to socially & psychologically manipulate other entities / your NPC entourage, so it influences how many pets, mercenaries, summons, or undead you can control at once, yeah?

@Specter so the other guy is right, there's no point in discovering all spells especially those who requires your low attributes.

Spells don't require attributes to be used - their effectiveness is influenced by them! So, for instance, your heavy STR / CON based character can use all the INT-influenced spells in the game he has learnt - they're just going to be less effective.

@Prometheus I'm not stupid ;). I know that is not a requirement but attrs will empower spells for sure. As an hard core player I usully try to maximize the value! So what's the point on using a spell that's not on full power?

Utility. Spells cause status effects and can alter terrain.

I think that you shouldn't pick starting stats at all. You start out with 10 in everything, the cap per stat and ease of raising stats is still per-race, but your stats change over time.

I would heavily prefer for the player to be able to set "goal stats" at any time and their character will gravitate towards those stats over time, though, rather than having to do x and avoid y in order to get the stats I wanted,

12 random online players are PM'd from the court system requesting their presence. they are to serve as a jury while a GM is the judge!

Hahahaha funny Interesting suggestion. Dunno if could work ^^

      jury duty!

if you miss too many then you're kicked out of the city for a week!

If your Constitution is too low you can be excused from jury duty, military drafting, etc. due to physical unfitness.

The only limitation is that Resting can only be done in a Safe Zone. It's this Safe Zone that may take a while to set up, if you're not near a city.

but of course they would lose all their strategic importance if you could have one at any time! That is why you can rest only in a safe location where your character can sit in front of a fire – be it your home, a friend’s mansion, a public tavern, or even a proper temporary camp.

      that doesn't sound like it's a quick r-click flint-n-tender thing.

It also won't take you two fucking weeks to set up.

reforge is crafting! I mentioned just changing a stat from intel to str via an enchant. How do you reforge leather or cloth?

Maybe we could simply change the enchant quickly and cheaply or you could reforge it (thus costing more) and add the enchant.

Reforging is more like leveling up an item, as opposed to crafting which is making a new item entirely.

I'm pretty sure campfires take a while to setup or you find a city or a village with a fire.

      They don't.

Resting involves no forced waiting time – once you’ve made your decisions, just confirm them and your hero will be ready to go. Moreover, it will have recovered all of its Endurance, Life and Mana, and be cleansed of all negative status effect (besides long-term curses).

The only limitation is that Resting can only be done in a Safe Zone. It's this Safe Zone that may take a while to set up, if you're not near a city.

    • RE: Identifying Items

I tend to prefer a system where found loot, crafted loot, and raid loot each excel in a different aspect and only by having a crafter reforge all three together can you get a top-tier weapon that excels in every aspect.

    • RE: Identifying Items

@jetah There's no reason why not; swords are reforged into much stronger blades (usually after being broken once) all the time in mythology and fantasy, with probably the most famous being Gram, and a re-enchant would simply be part of such a reforge.

Maybe re-enchanting a weapon counts as upgrading it and takes Knowledge Points or w/e the crafting equivalent is.

@vesterouge I'm well-aware of all of the history and reasons, as I have been right there watching it all along its history.

I don't really care though; it's a lazy and toxic bad habit that needs to be amended. I'm tired of cheap cash grab MMOs with pinup strippers as the only female character option

    • RE: 💡 Suggestion | Extra Races?

@Finland What I mean is, don't be like TERA and make your male and female of the same "beast" race look like this.

TERA Online male and female Popori / Elin

The US localization appears to not have noticed these are the same race (Popori), and renamed the female one to Elin, presenting them as a separate race. However, the game files clearly and consistently refer to them as popori_f.

There are plenty of other fantasy settings that have a huge dissonance like this, where the male is a legitimate werewolf or whatever and the female is just a chick with animal ears. Drives me crazy lol
