    • RE: Glyph and Re-downloading Fractured?

      @TekNicTerror and you're not understanding @StormBug

She's saying if she doesn't have to redownload the game, then she won't delete her current install of the game before defragmenting her drive. However, if it is going to need to be redownloaded anyway, not just patched, then she might as well delete it and remove it from her system prior to defragmenting her drive, so she has a cleaner system for when she does need to redownload the game for Glyph. She hasn't deleted the files yet, she's trying to see whether she should or not.

    • RE: Why are young status players allowed to kill legendaries?

      @Harleyyelrah
Thing is, I see nothing wrong with them using that as an exploit, if you want to call it that. Yes, they are taking advantage of protected status, but players have done that since protected status first showed up in games. If someone wants to go through all that hassel to keep their character in protected status as long as possible, they end up skipping a whole lot of other content in the game, AND they aren't out in large Ganking mobs taking advantage of that situation instead.

Basically, it's no big deal, and not exactly an unbalancing exploit. PvP shouldn't be seen as a given, but rather as an exception that happens occasionally, at least on Syndesia. If I get ganked every single time I go out to gather ore, or fight a legend, that's when I see a problem happening.

Would I use the exploit you talk about, NO, not my style of play, and I wouldn't cheat myself out of that much great content just for the slight advantage that gives.

    • RE: Senatus Populesque

The trouble with your proposal is your overempowering Guilds, when one of the stated goals of Fractured is that a solo player would not feel punished for not being a member of a guild or city. It is reasonable to limit some crafting to cities, making all players have to utilize cities to get everything done, but there are the starter cities and open cities for the solo'ist. It is not reasonable to make Guilds so empowered so that non-guilded players felt compelled to join a guild to get an equal experience of the game.

As to commerce, 'The Game' gets a cut of things as a gold-sink on purpose. This is an intended part of the game balancing. There is no limiting factor as to how much gold is available via mobs, so there has to be a way to reduce gold overall in circulation, not perpetually increase said circulation at an accelerated rate. As is, we don't have sufficient gold-sinks right now to keep Gold having a real worth as of yet, but they are working on it.

    • RE: Nickname change

because this is a Beta, there really isn't a process, just like there is no Unique name filter.

At release, things should be different, at worst during a Beta, you just make a new character, especially as there is a total wipe coming in like 9 days anyway

    • RE: Why are young status players allowed to kill legendaries?

@Logain said in Why are young status players allowed to kill legendaries?:

First of all, killing Legendaries is what most people would consider 'real content'. It is just less dangerous real content, because you're not threatened by PvP.
Second, and even more important, as I mentioned, these people are likely to bot/macro. They can easily have the second/third/fourth account run in the background, while playing happily on their 'main character/account'.

Yes, Legendaries are a great part of the Real content of the game, unfortunately, it's not their main, heavy play account that's taking down the Legendaries, just their Alts, and sure, they can transfer over the Lost Tales, but still, they aren't getting to experience the Legendaries from the account that really matters to them.

Secondly, as with most games, I'm Sure Fractured is going to try as hard as possible to disable to possibility of using Bots/Macros for automatic play exploits, meaning these players will have to physically play the account to get the advantages. More effort, thus, needs to be put into anti-Macro/Anti-Bot play than in limiting 'New Player' safe status behavior.

As I said previously, the game began it's main marketing push with the claim that a brand new player could come out of the shoot, meet up with friends, not hold them back, and take on boss raids and such because of it's vertical over horizontal progression and thus taking away the ability to take on Legendaries from beginning accounts defeats that entire claim.

    • RE: Wildfolk becoming evil / Advantage on Wildfolk World? / Wildfolk appearance change to look evil (Abomination)?

@Vultar On introduction of the Wildfolk, you have the option to go to Syndesia (the human world) however, travel to the human world does require the aquisition of a type of Primal Crystal, which we don't know what that source will be, but we do know it is only on Arborea.

Every world is supposed to have some resources that are unique to that world, Each race has benefits, Humans are more versatile, and have Tech Levels, Wildfolk have Primal Shape and Attribute Affinities that give different Solft/Hard Caps, and Demons are supposed to have some kind of Demonic Powers, however, Races lose things when they change worlds. Primal shape goes away outside of Arborea, Demon Powers go away outside of Tartarus, and obviously Humans probably can't transfer Tech Levels to other worlds.

All of which is subject to change, but currently what was initially advertised for the game and has been mentioned in the various Design journals and release notes throughout the Dev cycle.

They have not released any details on the differences between Abominations and normal Wildfolk, Liches and normal Humans, or Angels and normal Demons, but they were mentioned in the very beginning as well.

    • RE: Crafting considerations

Trust me, as a community, we totally get this concern. As a matter of fact, this has been debated on and off for not just months, but ever since the crafting got introduced fully into the Alpha testing.

Here's what has come before, so you understand. It was of course originally introduced before cities, so a personal plot could have any crafting area that could be built. This was just to test the individual crafting tables mechanics.

Then, when Cities were introduced, personal plots became highly limited in what they could build on them, as they wanted a reason for the city system. These cities could basically be locked by the Guilds/Governors that owned them so that non-citizens couldn't use any of the facilities.

This majorly upset the solo/small group set of players (which actually makes up the majority of players on MMOs, just not as vocal usually). The Devs came together and next made it so more could be done in personal plots, AND proposed that cities could not restrict use of city-wide crafting stations, so even the solo'ist could take advantage of their services, but everyone does so at risk of others taking their refined goods if they aren't there to monitor the completion.

Anyway, there has been some back and forth, and right now, the Devs have it so cities can restrict things to citizens, those outside of cities can build some refining and some crafting stations, but they private plots cannot access the higher tier materials in crafting as they are locked behind Tech Tree advancement of cities. This is an ongoing process. The City Owners have argued (not all of them, mind you) that final crafting should be locked to cities to encourage people to come into cities, but have also lobbied to be able to lock their crafting to their guild/citizens which as you note, would leave solo'ists/small groups without the ability to get upgraded gear without buying it in the market, when and if it becomes available.

Personally, my own suggestion was similar to yours. Based on the size of your personal plot, I think you should be able to make 1 final refining craft station, and there should be a way to pay to upgrade your personal tech to allow that 1 station to craft higher end materials. In addition, based on size, you could have 1, 2, or 4 refining stations in your plot, which can refine any materials they are able to refine, with Advanced Refining stations maybe taking up 2 'slots'

Either way, this is a long, drawn out, and oft revisited debate/argument in this game. The solo'ists/small groups and PvE delegation have pretty much pulled for more on personal plots, the Guild/Large Group/PvP crowd have argued that as Multiplayer is in MMO, that there needs to be incentive to make people interact with each other, and so some things need to be restricted to cities, BUT also some want to be able to lock said crafting stations to only citizens, so we'll see where it goes. The game's stated goal is to cater to both camps as equally as possible.

    • RE: Spell types..

They are keeping that kind of information close to the chest until they are ready with its release. Anticipate that it will be once they decide on appropriate mobs to drop those skills. A lot of the summoning/transmutation type magic for instance is anticipated to be on Arborea, being the Primal world, while a lot of the PvP focused skills will probably come out on Tartarus when they introduce Demons. Everything, however, since it drops off mobs, is based on when they introduce the appropriate mobs with those skills, and they don't always telegraph that.

    • RE: Rares

The Developers are dedicated to a Player Driven Economy, so everything that drops is either a Reagent or a Material for crafting, and anything else is crafted by the players (except the Lost Tales, which only drop from Legendaries, and are only worth Knowledge Points)

They have flat out stated that other than that and Gold, they have no intention of adding other "treasure" to the game.

    • RE: WHEN this week for Gate? (and other similar queries)
      1. It will become available to open. The crystals will finally be available. The gate still may not open right away.

      2. They almost never give an exact day/time for a patch, unless it's like the Wipe. The patch will arrive when it gets here.

      3. Races can mingle, they already answered, and with no additional malus added, that means free to live on each others' worlds, be citizens, etc. Currently though you're limited to 1 per accoint.

@Xulu Prometheus(Jacopo, the lead Developer/CEO of DS) has stated that Wildfolk suffer no males on Syndesia, and can freely travel/dwell there.

They just won't be able to get the resource that allows them to take their primal form without going back to Arborea. At least at this time. Anything right now is Beta conditions and it's unknown until testing is done how the final game will be.

    • RE: Feudal System could be an option to small group of players

An Alliance based city would actually appeal to my own Guild. The DnDeviants currently only has 3 people in its roster, myself, my sister, and my girlfriend, and we're primarily focused on PvE, Skilling/Crafting play over PvP/Heavy Combat focused play.

One skill we share, especially me and my sister, is a dedication to quickly build up city buildings in an obsessive way. We were known, in previous tests, to go around and help finish buildings all over town in fact, not just our own plots.

We would like to grow to the point that we could eventually have a town of our own, but barring that, a good alliance with like minded guilds of a smaller stature would work out really well for our style of play.

I typically play a Mage/Arcanist, with a definite interest in a Bard type build if that becomes a workable thing. As to my favorite skills to focus on, I prefer to be the group's Enchanter, Gathering, sorting, and utilizing reagents. I also enjoy mining.
My sister, Stormbug, plays our Fighter/Gladiator type, and smithing and leather crafting are her skills of choice, with her also being a big fan of mining.
My girlfriend, SophiaStarr, plays another Mage, with the Sorceress type being her leaning, and she loves the Farming aspect of gaming. She also clocks the least hours of Alpha Testing currently of the 3 of us.

    • RE: Treasure Maps

Since there isn't going to be any kind of real 'Treasure' to speak of, I doubt that Treasure Maps would fit into the vision of Fractured. Again, remember, this is a 100% player created economy, where as a game with Treasure maps generally lead to rare items and for the most part, players in Fractured already know what the sources are of the rarest items/reagents out there.

@FLeaLoD Cosmetic rares for house decor are intended to be bought in the Fractured store using foundation points or real-world money as an alternative to Pay-to-win systems. Everything for sale that way is cosmetic, so they are reserving those kind of bits and bobs for that store alone.

The only real trading they are wanting is Player based. I do believe the bits and bobs you buy in the Fractured store will be account bound so they won't even be secondary marketable.

    • RE: Progression / Learning system discussion

Also remember that Talent Point progression is accelerated during an Alpha test because you simply don't have as much time to do it as you will after release. I expect the Talent Tree and Skills to fill up a good deal slower once the game reaches its final form already, I'm sure the Devs are aware of this.

We tried online play, but my players just didn't feel motivated to show up on the internet, so we stopped after the first month or so. I'm immunocompromized, so I haven't gone back out to play as of yet, although I'm fully vaccinated. Our FLGS started games back up at the beginning of June, but I've yet to go. I could really use the stress relief, personally.

    • RE: "Few Days"

again, without having a community liaison on their team as of yet, it takes away from development and organizational requirements everytime one of the Developers tries to make an update for us.

Quick updates, like a discord post, hold no 'official' obligations, they are just heads up, and as such, can be done really quickly sometimes, if a developer has a few minutes to spare, and that's great and helps keep us informed in broad strokes.

This being said, the Discord updates can't just be copied and pasted as NEWS or Kickstarter updates, because these carry a level of official obligation to them that requires that the be professionally formatted, edited, and scrutinized prior to release for public consumption. Where a discord post might be done in 5 mins, by 1 developer, a decent NEWS or Kickstarter update can take several hours to become suitable for release, and generally involves a minimum of 2 sets of eyes, if not more go over it to make sure they aren't making promises or predictions they have no intention of keeping. No matter how good a writer a single Developer might be, nothing official should EVER go out to the public without having been gone over bare minimum by a separate editor. (One cannot truly edit their own writing, because we have a tendency to self-correct in our head, so errors aren't actually seen). In addition to that Developer writing an initial official update, and at least 1 editor going over that update for professionalism, grammar, spelling, etc..., the Developers in charge need to come together and review such a release and agree on its relative accuracy at the time of posting. Different Devs have different things on their plates, different schedules when they might be free to read over and comment on such a post, so it is generally something that now takes a dedicated meeting, at least 1-3 revisions, and a final overview check before it can be published as official. That 5 minute possible 'keep us in the know' that we ask for in design terms is potentially costing several developers anywhere from 2 hrs ot 8 hrs each in actual time away from their own contributions to the game development and organizational situation of the project.

This is why a community liaison is generally hired (when it can be afforded into their budget, that is.) Such a person would go to each Developer on the Dev's schedules, and get regular progress reports, do a professional level write-up of a NEWS article/Kickstarter update, go to the Head Dev(s) for approval of the content, then submit it to editing for final posting. This is a full time job for the liaison and at least a part time commitment for an editor.

I'm all for getting updates, and it is good to keep the community on board with what's happening, however, I'm also for sacrificing some of that updating if it means the Developers can get more progress done on the game itself.

As to the concept of "stop worrying about adding more to the next alpha, and release a smaller release now while we wait," remember, when they go to release any kind of Alpha test, all Development stops for as long as it takes to migrate what they currently have onto the test servers for us to work on, the Developers closing any holes that remain because they were still 'works in progress' so that it is a playable test. Each time they stop to do that, in other words, they halt work on the overall progress of the game. I'm not one for wanting an alpha test to come out everytime a new T is crossed or I is dotted in the overall scheme of things. As they are only running quarterly (roughly) Alphas right now, it is important that each Alpha has enough new content to really justify launching the test series.
