    • RE: Talents. limit of 60 points.

I think, for right now, with the number of KP available, and the current conversion into Talents, 60 is just about the right number. Not so many that I feel I can unlock everything, but not so few that I feel I'm locked into only 1 specialty.

My characters can wear multiple Master hats with 60 points, and then, with a rest at a campfire, swap out and wear a different set of hats for awhile if need be.

When the game fully releases, I expect there to be a lot more KP available, so at that point, the Talent Tree will more than likely need to expand quite a bit, or the conversion of KP to Talents cost will have to inflate dramatically, or your looking at several players maxing out what can be done with a character in the first week or two of play.

@Tyrgrim said in Solo playing became extremely difficult.:

U can change things in single player games too. Thats a feature, not a game. But u can t change much in fractured anyway ? this is not a sandbox mmo.

But that's just it, THIS IS A SANDBOX MMO. Fractured was billed from the very beginning as an Isometric, Sandbox MMO.

Multiplayer and Group/Co-op play are two very different beasts. The Multiplayer in MMO means it is a multiple player, rich, shared environment. Players can, if they so choose, do nothing but craft, and then sell their wares to other players. They can go on monster hunts, or join big monster take-downs for the good of the realms. They can spend their time farming and fishing and other tasks if they so wish as well. It is a true Sandbox situation. Yes, there will be creatures so fearsome for one reason or another that only a group, or a very well equipped individual with the right Talent mix could possibly overcome them. Generally, less the latter, seeing as this is an isometric game. There is a real goal of there not being a massive power gap between players overall that would prevent too much of that.

Join a city if you want to:

      a. help build an in-game community
      b. help build a hub for your guild or a group of friends
      c. want easy access to all kinds of crafting stations and a centralized market
      d. want a relatively safe place that isn't going to be a juggernaut through the wilds all the time to get in and out of. Possibly very defensible.

Play it solo if you want:

      a. To be a self-sufficient type who dabbles in several crafts to facilitate their own existence without dependence on everyone else
      b. To feel the challenge of braving the wilds day in and day out as you try to carve out your own little island in the wilderness
      c. Prefer 99% of the time, the solitude of not depending on, or being depended on by others, while knowing that civilization is just a short trek away for those odd times when you do want to socialize.

    • RE: What is the point of having your own plot of land?

@Stacy555 As I said before, MMOs are about Multiplayer, not necessarily Group play. I can totally get behind there being some things that are meant for groups to overcome, like a Greater Wyrm, where several players or even several guilds have to band together in a massive raid to stop the juggernaut of a creature.

I am also okay with citizenship being required in order to have cheaper, easier access to certain crafting paraphernalia. Notice I said cheaper, easier access, not exclusive access. A citizen of a town could use a town's communal tannery to tan their leather for them and expect their taxes to cover that usage, where a non-citizen would have to pay a fee for the same use of that tannery. A solo player out in the wild with their own house could also eventually build a small tannery station of their own, but such a station might require materials not all readily available in the wild, in order to complete, or even just expensive chemicals to finish the leather bought or made using Alchemy. (I know leather tanning can be done with rather simple ingredients, but this is for the game), so the solo house out in the wild would need to either cart in special building supplies to finish building such a structure, or at least regularly go to town to buy the alchemical means to finish their product, or invest not only in a tannery, but also in an alchemy lab too. If you want to be self-sufficient, you need to have many more resources at your fingertips than someone who lives in a city and can just go to the market.

I think it is important to realize, however, that Fractured is in a state of Alpha testing...further, the Player Cities feature is only just now being introduced, so it makes sense that a lot of the emphasis on this phase of the test will be to encourage joining a player city over building a private residence. Certain features are also being tested out, and may or may not make the final cut. Sure, in the last test, there were individual crafting stations you could build on your private plot, but also in the last iteration, there were no player cities, and even the 2 starter cities didn't provide everything. The tanning tubs for instance were not usable by players in that test. People need to keep expressing their feedback, sure, that's what an Alpha test is good for, but they should also do so realizing that things changing from test to test are done not to punish one group of player-styles or another, but to test out specific features in a relative vacuum, a more controlled condition, before testing them out in a wider, more varied landscape.

    • RE: What is the point of having your own plot of land?

@Harleyyelrah said in What is the point of having your own plot of land?:

But overall an MMO should focus on social/group playing, because that is the biggest difference between the MMO and a single player game.

Actually, Solo play has been a major aspect of MMOs since their inception with Ultima: Online. The point of MMO is to have a massive shared world where what you do has an affect, and what others do has an affect as well. There is competition, not just for scores on a leaderboard, there is the chance to group up to overcome very big challenges, like Mega-bosses, but a player can also stay solo, and spend their time in game maybe practicing skills, only to sell their wares to other players instead of just to NPCs. People often focus too much on the Multiplayer aspect of MMOs and think that means it's all about group play. It is about a group shared world, with the option to go solo, or play in a group. Someone said they play with their wife, I know I play sometimes with my Sister, sometimes with my GF, and sometimes with both, and much of the time I play solo, all are viable, and not super-group options. I have created my own guild, but the only members are my GF and my sister at the moment, but in most games, I never even joined a guild unless some quest required it for some reason.

Guild/Large group players just have to realize that Solo players have their place to, and every right to expect the game to also make the game fully playable by them. The one main exception being Mega-boss type battles, and even then, in a Level based game, a Soloist can always take on Mega-bosses once they reach higher levels than the group expectation, but of course in Fractured, that wouldn't be the case, being an Isometric game not based around levels.

    • RE: What is the point of having your own plot of land?

@Chapex Actually, the communication with the developers in this game is one of the best I've seen, having been an Alpha and Beta Tester since back in the 1990s. People don't realize how much effort goes into such game development, and how much time a developer has to take out of that to communicate with the population at large. They are doing a top notch job at keeping us informed, far better than 99% of the projects out there.

Time between tests, and test durations are also well above average on the positive side. Many games, after a major test, would take literally months before another test starts, this last gap was just barely over a Month, and part of that was a major Server issue delay for an extra week, and part of things has been related to COVID-19 slowing lots of things down.

Time until ultimate release of the game is also not actually terrible either. It is nice to see a relatively new MMO company take the time it really deserves to do a game right. When you consider, Blizzard, one of the biggest developers out there, took over 10 years to produce Diablo III despite major demands to see it much sooner. Going from Kickstarter in 2017 to a possible game release before 2022 is actually great! I want the devs to take the time it takes to get things right, and this game is trying to be as revolutionary as possible, with a true isometric sandbox feel.

    • RE: Solo playing became extremely difficult.

@Tyrgrim Solo play has always been a major draw of MMOs actually, going back to Ultima, Online the first major MMO out.

The Multiplayer feature isn't simply a demand that we require group play tactics, but rather, people want to be in a shared dynamic world where what they do changes things, and what others do also change things, where they can compete with other players directly, and not simply on some leaderboard. I've played MMOs for years, since Ultima, Online in fact, and most of my MMOing career has been Soloing the games. I would occasionally join in on a raid team, but generally only when it was absolutely required, or specifically when a group of friends managed to come on and synchronize things. (a rare occurrence in my situation usually)

    • RE: What is your biggest want in this game?

@Razvan it's pretty much up to the player base how big the alliances get. Even if the Devs put a limit on things like Clan/Guild sizes, that doesn't stop players from forming coalitions outside of the game of multiple Clans/Guilds to still build what they want, so this is a hard, if not impossible ask.

    • RE: NO EU server? no thanks!

It by no means makes sense to invest, during Alpha Phase, in the leasing process to have dedicated servers in other countries. Remember, server processing is usually leased from server farms based on several factors, including bandwidth/workload and uptime/maintenance needs. A game not in full release yet can hardly be expected to have their own dedicated servers around the world, afterall. At release, a few dedicated servers, based on expected workload is probably what will happen, and a few farmed server sessions to handle overage until more dedicated servers can be brought online.

    • RE: Alpha 2 - Test 3 New Launch Date

Another advantage to waiting until Wednesday to restart the AlphaI launch is that they have a few more days for in-house testing to make sure that the bug is completely overcome, and see if any other glaring server side errors come up before releasing their baby into the wild.

I also fully agree with the mid-week release. Hump day is a great time to do so, even the 9-5ers out there will get a few evenings available to play before the weekend, and the weekenders exclusive only need must wait 2-3 days to play. The Devs and Support staff are there for the opening labor pains of our newborn test to smooth out the wrinkles, and those initial wrinkles can be smoothed out before the weekend is upon us.

    • RE: Alpha 2.3 Key giveaway.

As it so happens, the person I want to get a key for is my Girlfriend. We met online 4 years ago next month and one of the things we share is a love of all things RPGs and gaming. Recently, she's been coming in during my streaming of OSRS while waiting for Fractured and she's also heard me wax rather poetic about Fractured itself. She's always participated in tabletop roleplaying, but not as of yet joined in on an MMORPG and I think Fractured would be a great way to let her cut her teeth on an MMO.o

We met first online, and found we had a mutual interest in karaoke. She enjoyed watching and hanging out, but is too nervous to sing, while I am the world's biggest ham. Anyway, we met up as I was hosting a karaoke meetup for the site we were on, and instantly we hit it off. I came to find she was also into board and card games, but had never had a chance to play Dungeons & Dragons as of yet, although we had a rousing good time playing Cards Against Humanity. I introduced her to D&D, and she's been addicted ever since. She is also almost as obsessive as I am about Board and Card games, and she's FAR more competitive. Now I just want to expand her gaming knowledge even further with an Isometric MMORPG for her maiden voyage. The added benefit is that my Sister from another mother also has Alpha access to the game (she watched me stream during the last open test, and had to join me, and after the test was over, she actually went to Legendary before I upgraded.)

Anyway, there are probably better stories out there of gaming buddies, but thought I'd throw my hat in the ring.

and furthermore, going through the Signing process during an Alpha/Beta test phase can cause unneeded delays, as the file gets changed so often in these phases you'd constantly be resigning the files to keep them matching.

    • RE: What makes Fractured different?

Not saying that an Isometric Sandbox has never been tried before, but ultimately, that is the ideals that make Fractured something new and different.

A non-level based progression system where it is more about what you know, and how you activate your build on a given day/quest than how long you've been playing the game, and what magic gear you've accumulated from raids sets Fractured apart from most current game play.

Another element that makes this game more unique is the unlinked banking system, so players must physically transport materials from one part of the gameworld to another, creating a real merchant/trade economy simulation system. This combined with all gear being player generated using said materials, and the fact that some materials are going to be primarily exclusive to certain areas, or even worlds will give the whole thing a rich dynamic feel for the inner trader in many of us.

The closest game to what they are doing right now out there seems to be RuneScape 3/Old School RuneScape, and already Fractured has many elements that are an improvement on those games for immersion. The RuneScape games still have a leveling system, although it is skill leveling, not individual character leveling itself. RuneScape 3 also has the teleport nodes around their world, which although convenient in that game, would take away from the commerce advantage I discuss above in this one. RuneScape does have some magic items that burn out/get used up periodically, but not to the extent that Fractured is planning I think.

Overall, Fractured appeals to the old school MMORPGer in me that most modern games are moving away from, but still takes advantage of superior graphics and beautiful fight scenes.

    • RE: Another Key raffle

I actually have several friends who would be interested in trying out Fractured, as I've been talking about it when I stream Old School RuneScape. My favorite thing about the game is the Isometric nature of it all. Knowledge Points used to enhance, not level your character, and then player-created items with a durability score helps with immersion, as does the non-linked banking system that requires physically moving items from city to city, town to town. My favorite feature coming out in this test though has got to be the anticipated Talent Tree grid. Very excited to see how that ends up going, that's not to say that player cities don't have me salivating as well of course.

    • RE: Another Key raffle

@Znick Actually, RuneScape Classic was developed by DeviousMUD players who wanted to play Ultima Online, but couldn't afford the monthly fee at the time. If you played OSRS (Old School RuneScape) now, you'd be getting pretty close to the Ultima experience. (I played Ultima: Online too back in the day)
