    • RE: Importance of NPC in range of sandbox dynamic game...

One of the goals of FO is for things to be done/made available via Players, not NPCs, so things like NPC merchants, and of course, any kind of Quest giver shouldn't be added.

Some window-dressing NPCs wouldn't be a bad thing, and of course there are the NPCs that were part of some of the Kickstarter plans that would fit in. Mayhaps a Town Cryer that the Gov/VG can set to give messages of import to the town/guild could be a thing.

The 'empty' feel of Fractured is mainly because population numbers are currently very low. That's in part because we're amping up to a wipe, and partly because it being a Testing phase (currently closed Beta) people did what they came to test, then moved on until new stuff was dropped into the game, perfectly natural. Sure, some of us die-hards stayed, and that's good for the game too, but your going to see that population ebb and flow during testing phases. Hopefully, after launch, you still see an ebb and flow, but with a greater concentration of players during peak times.

I am, in other ways, not really in favor of too many NPCs outside of mobs within the FO framework. It's one of the features that attracted me to FO

actually, there's another thought, maybe a recipe, ANY recipe can also be required for Legend summons. That gives us a Recipe sink, because they do become obsolete eventually.

    • RE: feedback , in game systems and more

      just as a quick response:

7> They have already said that they plan to expand on food, and that there will at least be a benefit for eating a more varied diet, and not always resorting to the same food all the time.
9> Adding a sort function has been asked for numerous times, so that is definitely a popular feedback. No word as yet as to whether they will take it into consideration.

Also, on tooltips, as the current game condition shows, updating tooltips has not always been prioritized, and as tooltips are more QoL, they tend to be some of the last things put into a game in their final form as it is. Also, they need to confirm what they want to include in tool tips overall. Shoot, in game, the tooltip for Pointsettia, Pinwiper, and Mustard Seed plants are all mixed up. (Penwiper tooltips as Pointsettia, Pointsettia tooltips Mustard Seed, and Mustard Seed tooltips as Penwiper)

Remember too that only Humans in the initial Brief, have the option of Tech Levels, which is one of the main reasons to upgrade a city. Thus Tartarus and Arborea cities won't have as big a need for Prestige as it sits now, unless they develop another reason for upgrades.

    • RE: Why we need attribute respec options.

Yet, they have been completely transparent about these things from the beginning, so the aren't pulling anything over on anyone.

I guess any small supposed advantage can be called p2w, just like any amount of repetitive killing can be called grind. That being said, the Devs have made no secret as to how the game will play, and which minor p2w options they may resort to. A pay to respec is hardly gamebreaking at all, and as you can currently max out a characteristics under 2 weeks if you want to push, all it really saves the die-hards is time.

Very early in, they said they would give VIPs a KP boost (and yet, just about every pack you buy gets at least 1 month VIP) and also early in, they said Redpecs would possibly be a cash store item, but was made weekly in the testing phase.

In the same early reveal, they said Races would be restricted mostly to their own planets, and that they didn't want to go either mandatory subscription or true p2w. P2fast may be close, but if the pay option can be done without paying, it isn't really. True pay to win is when they lock some content behind a money wall

    • RE: Why we need attribute respec options.

Respec is only for Attributes, not like you get to relock and then respend KP to unlock skills.

You get to freely respec Talent Point spending, and you can set up 5 pre-sets for Talents and 5 for Skills, so really, respec has very limited affect on the game overall. It is a very minor advantage at best. Most games don't tend to allow any respec at all, you have to make a new character. This game currently gives you 5 character slots, and the assumption is we'll have at least 3 slots at launch, so you could make 1 character per planet. Some packs have bonus slots as well. That's the ultimate 'respec' as you can start over and try another build. Now that you know what your doing, you might also grab a month of VIP just to catch up faster on making the new build idea, but for the most part, you go in, you try a few things, realize you may have set your attributes wrong, remake a new character and go in with more knowledge at your disposal.

Respec is hardly P2W. It is a Pay 4 convenience, not power. You do have to give the Devs some decent monetization options. Cosmetics only go so far. There are whole groups of players who won't spend a rusty tin shilling on cosmetics, and you need to have something to entice them to revitalize the game with cash. They don't want to go p2w or all subscription, as neither fits what they have been advertising from the beginning, but p2fast is within their stricture, thus the KP boost for VIP and possibly a planned pay to Respec option. They could also turn Respc into a Goldsink, and make you pay in-game gold to do it of course.

    • RE: Very big ping!

Yes, server location has something to do with ping, as does your own internet.

Yes, different servers would give different ping options, however, during Alpha/Beta, it makes no sense to shell out the extra expense for additional servers, especially when testing populations tend to be so much lower.

The game does fully intend to have an EU server on launch. They have said the launch plan was for 1 NA server and 1 EU server, and then other servers may be added as population demands dictate. That is normal for a game.

Many people play this game with over 200 ping and still manage to excel at PvP. The overall game latency is not actually that bad, the biggest problem is trying to do things like dual client on the same system, and eventual stuttering after being online for awhile.

Luckily, the dedicated PvP world isn't even implemented yet, and that's where the hardcore PvP types will probably focus their attention.

As for a CM responding, Arcahem is the only CM, and he might respond, but this has been answered several times in the forums, so I can tell you right now, they already said NA and EU server upon launch, but probably not before.

    • RE: VIP Benefits (knowledge bonus)

In a lot of ways, the KP bonus is more of a trap than an actual advantage.

An inexperienced player comes in with VIP knowledge bonus, and knows they may only have it for a month or so, so they try to switch mobs as fast as they can max them out, not staying to grind them at all, so they suffer a drastic shortage of many gatherable resources that those mobs provide, so have to go back later in order to get the loot needed to craft/buy better gear.

Also, same newbie character doesn't know which skills to unlock, so 'wastes' a lot of those extra KP on skills they would never use for their build. Once the game's been out for awhile, a KP advantage won't matter, because long term players will have gotten most of the KP anyway, and a late entry player can possibly use a guide if they are the type to 'catch-up' with the veteran players with a viable build to jump into the action.

Either way, the KP boost is more than likely not going to give much if any advantage, and will in fact hinder the uninitiated in the long run.

    • RE: Why we need attribute respec options.

actually, as the game is trying really hard not to monetize by going p2win, respect for cash is one viable option. A respec isn't a pay to win option, but it is better than making a new character and starting from scratch if you want to try a truly different build. This is why I do believe they intend to make the Respec eventually be a cash shop option, or an in-game goldsink

@Logain no way Fractured can be completely Horizontal. Even I admit that. It is, however, about as Horizontal as a game can get away with and still be fun and have combat themes at all.

Advancement is still based more around versatility than actual power creep. The game just takes a Rock/Paper/Scissors approach to some combat situations. Did you load-out the best Skills/Gear to face this Mob? Did you anticipate what this PvP opponent brought to the battle?

A brand new player and a 2yr vet can still take on a new mob together and both get KP, both feel useful, and if need be, just give the newer player some spare gear for that second outing against that mob, and switch out a skill or two to better contribute.

because this is a Beta, there really isn't a process, just like there is no Unique name filter.

At release, things should be different, at worst during a Beta, you just make a new character, especially as there is a total wipe coming in like 9 days anyway

    • RE: Races restricting freedom of play.

Adjusting and allowing choice is fine, until said actions impact the story that the game intends to tell.

Changing a cornerstone of a game essentially changes that game. It in essence becomes a different game.

Not saying you have to play Fractured, or that it is the game for you, no game is for everyone, but in essence, Fractured is what it is, and tells the story it tells, and to modify the cornerstone elements of the game would change that. You would argue that is a change for the better, while those of us who like this story element, would argue that it compromises the vision that Fractured puts forth.

We can of course agree to disagree. Sometimes, it is the limits in a system that give the most encouragement to creativity and adventure. Remember, playing within the rules is harder and more satisfying than just breaking them.

What's the level of the City your trying to Attack. If the town is over level 5, then you have to attack as a competing town, Guild groups can conquest Hamlets (level 5) or less, as I understand it.

Other than that, I can't say why it isn't working. Might need a bug report then.

    • RE: Races restricting freedom of play.

Sometimes, adding restrictions adds to and doesn't take away from the fun. Also, a 'Bad' DM is only a DM who doesn't run their table consistently.

Nobody's fun is wrong, if a table doesn't match your style, don't play at that table, doesn't mean that DM is bad in any way...it's a fallacy that has been engendered in modern versions of D&D saying you should always strive to say 'Yes' to the players. Sometimes, a DM could and actually should strive to say No and maintain the story idea that they want to run. Just like you have the right to play your character's personality the way you want, so the DM has the right to play their Campaign's personality the way they want. If you and your party don't mesh, then its the wrong party, and if you and your DM's campaign don't mesh, it's the wrong campaign.

Same goes with MMORPGs. Fractured is for a certain type, or rather, 3 certain types of players, and its built to foster those 3 separate approaches and the Race system is how they chose to segregate those playstyles, and they baked it into the core, on purpose. Sometimes, you totally cheapen a concept by giving in too much to one group of players, at the expense of the ones originally attracted by your core concept.

    • RE: Feedback on Legends

I like some of what you have to say, sis (Stormbug) but I would like to see the PvE crowd able to do hard legends too without always a guarantee of a ganking.

My proposal is instead of the 10 min warning, you give the announcement when they die, knowing a lot of groups bring enough Altar stuff for more than one summons anyway, and so their second or 3rd summons of the Legendary or more start to risk the PvP ganker squads, or, the PvP intensive groups can set up watcher camps near altars, like they do in some other games (like old EverQuest) so that they can notify their guildies when a PvE group is in the area looking to summon the Legends, but this way, Legends isn't absolutely guaranteed PvP content, which it will be once population on Syndesia is higher.

Pvp and PvE are both supposed to be on Syndesia, however, non-voluntary PvP is supposed to be punished and discouraged on Syndesia. Syndesia is supposed to be more about consensual PvP, Raids, and Conquest situations.

    • RE: Races restricting freedom of play.

The 3 Races and how they are handled is a Cornerstone Concept of this game.
As such, this is one of the things that the Devs are more than likely going to dig in their heels about overall.

Realize, of course, that although the 3 races are world specific, and alignment factioned intially, Classes don't really exist in the game, and any character can learn any Skills and Talents, so you are given a large amount of choice.

The Races aren't as much about splitting the player base between likeminded adventuring groups, but more to splitting the playerbase among different distinct play-styles. Demons are for pure PvP player types, Wildfolk are for pure PvE player types, and Humans are for those who like a little Peanut Butter with their Chocolate (Mixed Pvp/PvE types)

The game is not really developed towards the idea of mixed racial groups traveling together, and although there are elements borrowed from D&D, that is more a side-effect of being an MMORPG, not a direct correlation. All MMORPGs were initially inspired by D&D, afterall, going back to UO, so cross pollination is to be expected, without copying everything over.

The fact of the matter is, even though the current movement in D&D is making everyone able to play every way they want, without no true Racial Distinction enforced, that doesn't mean the entire player base is even behind that there. I'm against Gatekeeping in games, HOWEVER, I don't see it as gatekeeping when you try to stick to a specific world them in your game, based on popular fantasy or sci-fi tropes, or even intend to develop your own specific cultural biases within the structure of the game.

Anyway, not to get into a debate about societal structures and Gatekeeping, suffice it to say, Fractured is built around the story of the 3 races and their distinct differences, and may give the option for Demons to become Angels, Wildfolk to become Abominations, and Humans to become Liches, or they may even drop that in the future. The Race=World linik however I fear is mainly here to stay.

    • RE: 5+ hours to respawn a resource node?!

There are plenty of the resource nodes you need most (aka basic resources) scattered around, and they will probably adjust the respwn rate a little before actual release based on feedback from the players.

For a house, you mainly just need Stone and Wood logs.

Trees are everywhere and give between like 3 and 6 logs when chopped down. That's pretty plentiful, although there is a bit of competition in the beginning, after a wipe, as EVERYONE is trying to build at once, which is to be expected.

Stones are more scarce, but Stone nodes are marked on the main map so you know where clusters spawn. Originally, each node gave 2 bricks of Stone when harvested, and they may find that is worth going back too. Another possibility is maybe the nodes will randomly yield 1 or 2 stones. That would be good.

Everyone rushes to get cities and houses up as fast as possible, but from the game's standpoint, there does need to be some feeling of Time being required to build a house/city afterall.

This is part of why towns require 20 settlers. It's assumed each settler will put in a little effort to build the city, and possibly their own house too.

    • RE: Feedback on Legends

I actually agree, Legends should announce when defeated, not when summoned for the sake of PvEers who want to sneak in a Legend without PvP being almost guaranteed.

As to KP vs Skills, at release, we've been told tgere will be approximately 400 skills available, of which you start with 4. Additional skills unlock for between 1000-3000 KP, split between the 3 "levels" of skills. Given thus an average cost of around 2000, you need only 400k Kp to learn every skill. As you can get 300k Kp without Legends, without Arboreas mobs and POIs, and tge same with Tartarus, it shouldn't be too hard to get 60TP and 2/3rds available skills without doing a single Legend.

Also, remember, Ace's view are his, you don't have to comply with his standards to have fun or a fully enriching gaming experience with practiced.

Yes, some PvE content is delayed, and some in game now needs work, but as any game designer knows, when building a game, you always work on the conflict resolution systems (combat-oriented) first and get them mechanically sound before you take other systems and Quality of Life/Story

I want Alchemy. And advanced crafting, and cooking, and fishing too, but I realize it isn't a slight to me as a PvEer to have to wait for that. Shoot, Fishing was a Stretch goal and won't be added until after game release.

Combat systems, especially in regards to balancing PvP are a big priority. Syndesia is also the hardest world because they want to get the mix right between incentives and punishments for PvP.
