    • RE: Int, is the most important crafting stat!

Each stat could have it's own use yeah.

Blacksmith-ing could certainly use strength (endurance), since you have to hit that metal pretty hard.
Dexterity, as you said, for creating small objects of any kind.
Perception for processing one thing into another thing, could affect the efficiency of processing.
Wisdom for creating a complex item, out of multiple simpler items.

      etc.

      Hi Folks.

      power players

So... directly flagging specific player group as "power players" while others then logically being, the opposite.
And then pretending harmless. 🙂 Yeah, go right ahead mate.

Posting this cute lambo pic was the least I could do.

    • RE: Real Crafting

@Farlander I'm not talking about no loot drop at all.

Animals would drop skins, fur, bones, paws,...
Elementals could drop some brimestone, or even magical resources like elemental fire, etc.
Humanoids could drop items that they are currently wearing only, so if humanoid wears leather coat and uses sword, then he can only drop 1 leather coat (the kind he is wearing) and 1 of that sword.

It makes no sense that bear drops 2 handed mace or plate armor piece.

This resources can also be rare, so you could hunt bears for chance to get that rare claw (some RNG in this aspect is ok).

So hunting makes a lots of sense. It just isn't unrealistic, and bear doesn't drop you full set of armor. You hunt for resources and craft your own armor yourself.

It also makes no sense that bear drops blueprint...

Perhaps humanoid can drop that, but again not any humanoid, but only the ones that make sense.

    • Some "endgame" GvG suggestions (wishes)
      • declaring wars on zones - when your guild controls a zone (by building cities / sieges) you are able to declare war on neighboring zones, at which point NPCs will attack any player that has housing registered at that zone, and they will also attack other NPCs that belong to other zones (which would produce border NPC skirmishes, which players could join to help out their NPCs and help gain better control of border zone) -- if your NPCs are alive and enemy NPCs aren't then competition between you and other zone players would be in your advantage, having your patrolling NPC guards on your side (if enemy guards are dead)

      • NPC merchants sell rates - when your guild controls the zone, NPCs from this zone will sell you some consumables at a discount (only to guild members, not to everyone that lives in the zone)

      • NPC merchant sell rates (2) - you are able to tell NPC merchants in your controlled zone to sell "stuff" more expensive for people that live in certain other zones, or belong to certain other guilds, or not even trade with them.

      • Patrolling guard NPCs - able to tell them to attack other players on sight, not only based on their alignment, but also on their guild and/or zone affiliation (where they live).

      • guild wars - with multiple options, objectives and "end war" triggers. Permanent war, war with specified duration, war until other guilds leader (and/or officers) are killed, war until certain amount of members are killed, etc. Optional "plunder" objective, winning guild gets certain (agreed upon on start) amount of gold from other guilds treasury.

      • decent cooldowns on guild changing - so people aren't able to guild hop as they see fit. Should be at least 1 week cooldown imho.

      • options for guild structure - from dictatorship to democratic regimes, with appropriate options for guild management based on what kind of guild was constructed.

      • guild ownership of mines, etc. - when guild controls certain location, it's members get more materials while harvesting there (everyone can harvest, but controlling guild members get some bonus, so it will make sense for guilds to compete for areas)

That's it for now. Basically I would love if GvG aspect is well developed and has lots of options and possibilities, because that is what will drive "the endgame" here, and make Fractured "not boring". 😉 At least on Syndesia and Tartaros.

    • RE: Idea: fiefdoms on Syndesia

Perhaps larger the guild, the larger are some taxes that will need to be payed, so growing the guild beyond certain number (where cost curve will start to exponentially rise) will serve as a soft cap on guild size.

      Costs.jpg

As you can see in diagram I have drawn, rise of costs for guild maintenace up to 300 members would be linear, at which point soft cap 1 hits and costs start rise at a slight curve, up to member limit of 400 when cost line just explodes exponentially up to the sky.

No hard limit on number of members, but upward from 300, costs will start to rise more tangible, and upwards from 400 they will become almost unberable, so it will simply be not worth having guild larger than that.

logistic costs of alliance can be done in similar fashion, so size of alliance will also be "limited" in a same fashion.

    • RE: I'm too old for this :-D (or... how a new game made me learn how to record my gaming at age 55)

I usually limit an extend of my technology use due to simple aspect of privacy.

Just an example, I have an android TV and there is an app, that, while you are watching something, a notification can pop up on top of screen with a bubble with a message you received on viber or some other messenger.

This seems useful at a first glance, you see the message on TV (without interrupting your movie viewing) and without the need to even pick the phone up, and you can even use voice command (to tv) to do something about a message.

But then... what if someone sends me a naked photo while I'm having guests. 😉
Or... it says... "ah that idiot is in your house again, get rid of him and come to beer here".

    • RE: What challenges should guild alliances face?

There is a very simple solution for collision issue, that many MMOs are already using.

Player collision exists (NPCs can be excluded from this to prevent abuse), and works full time (even in cities), however, if you want you can activate sneak mode where your movement becomes slower, but you can "pass through" the crowd.

Slower movement makes sense, realism wise, you are pushing through and thus moving slower, and also makes sense so there is a drawback with that mode so people wouldn't just have it activated full time.

So if at any time someone "boxes you" near mailbox "for the lolz" you can just activate sneak mode and move away.

    • RE: Disappointed

It's purely up to developers how much content they want to place in Alpha or Beta, there are not fixed rules tied to this.

Meaning of Alpha and Beta also changed over time. In the past Alpha usually meant in-house testing at developers lab by company employees, while betas were usually online tests done by players around the world.

Over time, and with companies becoming smaller, standards changed to acclimate to specific company resources, this is why Alpha and Beta can involve different processes in the hands of companies with different resources.

Some accepted standard is more or less close to this:
      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Software_release_life_cycle

However, again, companies will different resources available will make this stages more aligned to themselves.

If we really wanted to narrow it down as much as we can, and use some middle ground, we could say that Alphas are mechanics tests (core of the game), and Betas are content (and server stress) tests.

    • RE: What challenges should guild alliances face?

Interesting is that viewpoint, not seeing as toxic when PvE promoter directly insulting PvP players calling them dickheads, but you see as toxic someone else politely suggesting that this PvE player could read about a game a bit (and realize few things that he missed), and pointing out that he is not the only player playing this game, without using any tag, label or insult whatsoever.

I guess you feel that players that like to PvP (and kill other players, because that is PvP) should be free to be insulted (because you label them as worthless people by your standards), but when someone suggests that PvE player reads about a game a bit, your sensitivity level rises 1000%.

Well... I expected nothing different honestly, I've seen it so many times in MMO after MMO. That mighty attitude of PvE players considering themself so virtuous and considering people that like to kill other players in PvP lowly and deserving of all tags and insults.

By the way, griefing is continuous, prolonged harassment, by systematically denying game play time to another player. Calling a single (or even few) AoE kill (karma or not) griefing is.. well, usual PvE player attitude I guess.

    • RE: Sparring/Duels

Beast folk could always travel to Syndesia and use arenas there for PvP practice. Traveling is kinda key point of the game, so traveling in this sense also makes sense.

Lore wise Arboreus is where peaceful folk live, so there aren't any war masters there to teach and train folk in PvP. So visit to Syndesia for the use of arenas, where there are also "war masters" makes sense.

How would you have them deal with overflow guilds?

Specially when people are arguing against friendly fire. 😉
Large guilds would just make 10 smaller guilds and play together. Not worrying about zerging when friendly fire doesn't exist.

young mobs - strong but naive, tend to be more aggressive, bigger agro range, follow you for longer distance before going back

middle age mobs - strong, more wise, more tactical, better AI, balanced agro

old mobs - bit weaker, but advanced AI, most tactical, playing defensively

Hmm. I don't think friendly fire would reduce zerging (see below), nor is that my goal.

Your goal is not to reduce zerging? Well... i guess that explains a lot... lol

Personally i prefer where skills determine the outcome of the battles and not who brings 1000 players vs 150.

    • [Poll] City Reputation System

Each player could have reputation tied to any particular city, better reputation with particular city, he would have some discount at NPCs, and some extra options becoming available to him at certain reputation thresholds.

There could be several ways to increase (and decrease) base reputation with specific city. Base Reputation would then get additionally increased or decreased by temporary factors like... is player member of guild that's currently ruling the city, what is players karma, is player currently citizen of that city, and so on.

Players would have different base reputation tied to each different city.

Does this idea sound appealing or not?

      Nice post again.

Indeed, more developed town mechanics would most certainly lead to more engagimg gameplay, and differently ruled cities would benefit from different management system.

@Bardikens what do you think about possibility of bribery mechanics when it comes to NPC cities? With player run cities that possibility is already given.

    • RE: Bardikens' Compendium of Suggestions Part 4: Gear and Crafting

      Nice post.

I would just add that in horizontal progression game, crafting effort isn't actually on crafting the gear (which was already stated it will be quick and easy), but on customizing it horizontally.

The more horizontal modifications you wish to apply to your gear (fit it more for exactly specific type of monster you will go hunt, for example) the more effort should it take.

So players will have easily obtainable gear, so they will never be "naked" for long even if they lost everything, but will still need to put in the effort to obtain highly customized gear, designed to be highly efficient for very specific purposes.
