@gothix Is the same as using the term Carebears 😉

Not really, calling someone like that does not insinuate they have no skills, just that they prefer not to use those skills to fight other players, and that they are usually requesting game mechanics to protect them from PvP (which is quite correct).

Now if you would go and say "hey you, you suck" and add other attributes to describe this player, that would be insulting. 🙂

I think Humans are the only constant since Beastmen lose abilities off world as do Demons (except during eclipses where they don't get debuffed).

My opinion is long-term I think more people will choose (or switch to) Humans. They get the most stuff and overall have the easiest time due to the freedom they enjoy.

Yeah this is why I also consider human. More attributes to chose, and human tech kinda offsets those demon buffs anyway. Also humans get to fight for control of human world, where the mix of good and evil guilds will be most intense, so sieging and GvG will actually make more sense then on demon world (where everyone is evil) or beastmen world (where everyone is good).

Also human world will have most traffic, as this world is most accessible for all 3 races, so there will be most players roaming around those parts, and it's kinda fun to be able to control zones in which you can set the rules after (you have a feeling you are making an actual impact on the world).

Also as noted, most player density on that world, means most PvP available at more constant intervals.

@gothix I edited the post up there. Anyway if people will stop arguing about "carebears" I will stop arguing about "pkers". My sword is ready every time someone summons a "carebear" 😛

It's what I'm saying, not everyone of them lacks the skills to fight, just prefers not too. The same way not every ganker lacks the skills to engage in skilled PvP (or PvE for that matter), it's just that he goes by principle "red is dead" and considers everyone a target to kill, regardless if it's a gank, a fair fight, or even an opponent stronger than himself.

The difference is that sensitive players tend to join in to PvP MMO under development and ask for that MMO to change so very often, requesting mechanics to allow them to opt out of PvP if they wish so. Constantly writing threads about PK punishments and PvP opt out availability.

Meanwhile, PvPers do not join forums of PvE MMOs under development and ask them to add PvP. If PvE MMO is being developed they simply do not join it (asking for changes), but rather just go join some PvP MMO being developed.

      THAT is the difference.

And then after skipping PvE MMOs being developed they join in to PvP MMOs being developed and find bunch of threads of those players asking for those MMOs to turn to PvE as well. THAT is why they have issue with them.

Sensitive players aren't satisfied of half MMOs being PvE, they want ALL MMOs to be PvE, so they can pick and chose, and they do not care about PvPers having something to play too.

(i hope you better understand now the difference) 🙂

    • RE: Hey, I'm new!

      @Lanc3k

      • Isometric perspective only (click to move, there is no WSAD), Albion style.
      • 3 planets with 3 different rule sets, a PvE world, FFA PvP world, and GvG based PvP world with flagging consequences for random kills and thefts
      • game has karma system, you can be good, neutral or evil aligned based on your karma, your actions change your karma
      • 3 races with few sub races, they differ by base stats, stat affinities, and perhaps racial abilities
      • base races (best men, human, demons) can evolve into different races... human -> leeches, beast men -> abominations, demons -> angels, through quest system and changing your karma.... this path is one way though, if you mutate, there is no way to turn back, your racials will change accordingly
      • there is housing system, you can only place house on designated locations, but locations are spread all around the world, not limited to cities.
      • there is full loot system, but new gear is easily craftable and not hard to come by, and people that want to avoid PvP completely can play on PvE world
      • game features horizontal progression, there is no levels, instead you learn new skills and add them to your spell book, there is a load of skills to learn so you will not learn them too quickly. New spells aren't more powerful, they are just different. There is variety of gear, all gear is equally powerful, but is adjusted for different situations, we will be able to customize our gear
      • you can use any skill you want, you are limited by number of slots on your spell bar, and you can change skills on your bar when resting
      • different skills depend on different character stats, so choosing your starting stat allocation is important, there are several "battle schools" of spells and each depend on certain stats more, so even though you can use all spells from the book, certain school spells will be more potent for you depending on your stat allocation
      • we dont know yet if you will be able to change your stat allocation.... but even if yes, this will surely be expensive and have a large cooldown (perhaps you will not be able to change at all)
      • but you will be able to have several alts
      • game is buy 2 play, with optional VIP subscription that shouldn't be pay 2 win
      • game features non instanced world, so no classic dungeons and raids, there will be dungeon like hard areas, but they will be competed by everyone
      • there is organized GvG, sieges, and guilds that rule cities will be able to control rules in that zone, there is also political system

Hmmm, I wrote all key points of the game I guess. Check videos to see how graphics look like. 😉

    • "Capture The Flag" GvG contest in Open World

So, seeing that we likely will not have instanced battlegrounds (mini games), I spent some time thinking about how it would be possible to implement some of fun events in to the open world, and still stay in line with Fractured mechanics and philosophy.

One of my suggestions would be something like this:

      • basic rule set of "Capture The Flag" mini game but placed in open world
      • GvG event, home bases (where flags initially are) would be GUILD SETTLEMENTS
      • 2 guilds would agree on start time and accept the button (bets could be placed as well, resources from guild treasury)
      • when event starts, each member of the guild would be able to capture and carry a flag of opposing guild (initial flag placement would be opposing guild settlement)
      • only the guilds that have a settlement built could initiate this event (prerequisite requirement)
      • all rules that are normally in CtF instanced event apply here, the only changes are that it's now not instanced, initial flag placements are guild settlements, and ALL guild members are included in the game
      • the goal is to bring enemy flag to own settlement to CAP a point (while your flag is on premises, same like in instanced game)
      • there is no need for forcing equal amount of players as guilds chose if they wish to play or no, they also chose if they will place some bets or just do a friendly game for free
      • game is over after one guild CAPs 3 points
      • ALL rules of open world apply, so if someone else not belonging to competing 2 guilds kills you (interferes) and you lose CtF event because of it, that's on you, all is fair (you need to accept this is open world event now and anything can happen)

There could of course be some tweaking of the rules, but I'm just starting from basic CtF rules, just placed in open world, with guild settlements as starting / ending points.

What do you think about this? 🙂

One special note: this might have to be planet based GvG only (2 guilds belonging to the same planets), due to traveling restrictions?

    • RE: Fractured Content Pills - Week 43, 2018

Owl-kin could be cool down the line. 😉

But I agree with @Roccandil , just dark screen will not help, because today GPUs and monitors have good way of altering brightness levels by hardware, so this is not something that cheat engines can detect. It is a simple modification of brightness and gamma on players hardware.

So in addition to having a dark screen, I would agree that having other players characters not rendering unless you can actually see them would be very nice, so altering your monitors brightness would still not help you in PvP, and in PvE as well if mobs follow same rendering principles.

Torch, PER, and innate racial night vision could be some of the factors that affect on how other characters and mobs render around you and at what distance.

      Rendering distance:

      • not rendering at all
      • close
      • medium
      • distant

      Character transparency:

      • invisible
      • very transparent (barely visible)
      • half transparent (averagely visible)
      • not transparent (fully rendered)

Combination of rendering distance, and character transparency, based on various factors (torches, PER, innate night vision, tech, etc.) would be pretty cool. Of course, it would require some extra development work. 😉

      But think about it:

      • using torch and having no night vision = characters render only at distance that torch lights up (perhaps there are stronger and weaker torches)

      • using torch and having night vision, low PER = characters in torch light radius render fully, characters outside of torch radius are half transparent

      • using torch, having night vision AND high PER = characters outside of torch light radius render with almost no transparency (better visible)

      • having night vision, high PER, but no torch = characters inside closer radius, aren't rendered fully, but are rendered same as outside of torch radius, partly transparent, depending on PER

      • high PER, no torch, no night vision = characters in close radius are rendered half transparent, characters at longer distances are barely visible (strong transparency, only some blurry edges are periodically visible, then vanish)

      • low PER, no night vision, no torch = you don't see characters rendered even at close range (just feel that dagger stabbing you from behind)

Include other factors like tech, perhaps characters being tired, thirsty, hungry, etc. and you can get huge amount of combinations. 😉 I would personally love to see something like that.

Again I acknowledge, as awesome as it would sound, it would be a lots of development work. 🙂

    • RE: Thoughts On Arenas

Thing is, since Fractured is fully open world and has no instances, then Arena would also be open world.

Think BDO arena space. Open world, just flags you differently while you are in the arena space. Fractured arena would also function like that I bet.

    • RE: The psychology of gaming

To be able to play the game long term without getting bored (for me at least):

      1. one must have friends

      2. one must have enemies

      3. game should provide multiple PvP options (GvG, sieges, open world mini games and other types of solo and group PvP contests, etc.)

      4. PvP ranking systems for solo players and for guilds

      5. guild ownership over world objectives (bragging rights) which can change when challenged in PvP by other guilds

      6. skill should be more important than gear and SKILL CEILING should be placed extremely high (offers long term progression that is not limited by other game content)

Take a special note on point 6. Many dev studios miss this one, and their game gets boring very soon. Make skill more important then gear and put skill ceiling very high (like original TSW did) and you will get a game that offers a long term progress to it's player base not dependent on content, but just on players spending time in game and playing, getting better.

If you put skill ceiling low, you are just shooting your MMO in the head.

    • RE: Secrets in game

@Lunotto In fact a major part of this game is a secret.

There are no levels and player progression is based on learning new skills (there is 400 possible skills and abilities that character can learn).

Where these skills are located (knowledge about them) in fact a... secret. 😉 You will need to explore the world, fight monsters, engage in various activities, and some of those activities will contain secret knowledge that will enable you to learn a particular ability.

Some knowledge will be easier to find and some will be hidden very well. You will have to do a lot of those things you wanted to do to learn those secrets.

    • RE: Suggestion: Demon Bone Armor/Weapon

If you kill a human - you can collect bones and make a bone armor.
If you kill a beast man - you can collect fur and paws and make a shamanic style furry armor.
If you kill a demon - you can collect his blood and shadow (by using magic) and create a shadowy armor with blood permanently dripping from it.

      1. This could be done by any race.
      2. It could OPTIONALLY influence your karma (or not).

There is no quick shortcut to level up.

Took me 6 months of being active every day to reach level 167. Game is 2 years away, so anyone still has time to level up. But not without being active. 😉

That's the whole point, these are not just a free gifts, these are rewards for active engagement with community and for promoting Fractured.

    • RE: VIP system : What do you think ?

I think that this being OP (or not) mostly depends on how devs plan to implement standard knowledge gain rate in game, and how powerful VIP boost will be.

Basically, without any details on this we can't really say anything now.

      __

If average time that player will need to learn all 400 abilities (without VIP) will be 2 years, and VIP boost makes player able to do it in 6 months, then yes it would be OP.

If boost is only a mild one and VIP player (given the same play time) will averagely learn all abilities only like 10-20% faster then non VIP player, then it's not OP.

      __

We don't know what will average time to learn all abilities be, and we don't know how big the boost will be, so we can't really discuss this at all now besides maybe agreeing that VIP might be ok, if knowledge point gain boost is only a mild one.
