    • RE: What challenges should guild alliances face?

About rules completely restricting players behavior, I have completely different opinion on that by the way.

Restricted games are boring games. The more freedom the game offers, the better, the more fun, and more possibilities for people to play with.

People that want complete safety everywhere, so that noone touches them, should honestly just play single player offline games. There are plenty of very nice single player RPGs.

Whoever wants to play online and share the world with other people, should realize that different people like different play styles, and world has to be made in such a way to allow that everyone can play in the way that he likes, and not that entirety of a game is made to one single players specific likings.

And devs are already doing great job about that creating 3 different planets with different rules. And honestly if Arboreus is not enough for you, as a whole planet that's peaceful, where noone can touch you, that's your own problem mate. I don't know what else to tell you.

On other 2 planets you can get killed and your "stuff" can be stolen. You will just have to deal with that risk if you will want to travel there.

    • RE: What challenges should guild alliances face?

@Farlander game already works like that.

On Syndesia you get flag for being a thief and murderer, and depending on your flag, certain NPCs will react in different way to you (that includes guards) up to the point that good aligned cities (ruled by good guilds) may not even allow you to enter because guards will attack you on sight, and other NPCs will want nothing to do with you.

Arboreus is completely no PvP zone, noone can attack you even if he wants to.

And Tartaros, as a demon world is free for all, lawless world.

So if you can explain to me, what exactly are you complaining about? 🙂

    • RE: I'm too old for this :-D (or... how a new game made me learn how to record my gaming at age 55)

I usually limit an extend of my technology use due to simple aspect of privacy.

Just an example, I have an android TV and there is an app, that, while you are watching something, a notification can pop up on top of screen with a bubble with a message you received on viber or some other messenger.

This seems useful at a first glance, you see the message on TV (without interrupting your movie viewing) and without the need to even pick the phone up, and you can even use voice command (to tv) to do something about a message.

But then... what if someone sends me a naked photo while I'm having guests. 😉
Or... it says... "ah that idiot is in your house again, get rid of him and come to beer here".

      @Farlander

Fractured is not a game featuring modern civilization where police forces are superiorly organized and have modern technologies to hunt down criminals in super efficient way (hell, even today so many criminals go free...).

Fractured features medival style civilization where battle is led by using spears, bows and arrows and some magic. Guards move on foot or on horses, and large part of land is unexplored and uncivilized.

So if you want to compare consequences for criminals with RL world, do not compare it to the modern world law system and police force. Compare it with how efficient was dealing with criminals in medival times.

Also don't forget government corruption in those times as well, where often pursuing certain "criminals" even wasn't in the "government" interests.

Also by playing on Arboreus, you have a whole planet where you can't be griefed or even killed... and if you are asking for even more than that, well... lets not get into further details, but I think no more words are needed, in that case, to explain what this request is anyway. 😉

    • RE: Somewhat customizable housing?

My guess would be that you acquire blueprint for type of house you wish (there will be multiple blueprints available), and then you build it according to blueprint specifications by bringing resources needed.

After that you will be able to customize interior of the house by placing different types of furniture around how you wish.

House structure will not be customizable per se, but you will have an option of many blueprints to build the house like you wish (but no, afaik, there will be no free-from placement of house walls if that's what you are asking).

    • RE: Idea: fiefdoms on Syndesia

Perhaps larger the guild, the larger are some taxes that will need to be payed, so growing the guild beyond certain number (where cost curve will start to exponentially rise) will serve as a soft cap on guild size.

      Costs.jpg

As you can see in diagram I have drawn, rise of costs for guild maintenace up to 300 members would be linear, at which point soft cap 1 hits and costs start rise at a slight curve, up to member limit of 400 when cost line just explodes exponentially up to the sky.

No hard limit on number of members, but upward from 300, costs will start to rise more tangible, and upwards from 400 they will become almost unberable, so it will simply be not worth having guild larger than that.

logistic costs of alliance can be done in similar fashion, so size of alliance will also be "limited" in a same fashion.

@deusex2 said in Idea: fiefdoms on Syndesia:

Seconded. Under suggested idea, the bigger guild will only get bigger and will, eventually, swallow the rest of the guilds.

Not if you have decent member limit. Not too small to allow gaming communities to play together, but also not allowing thousands of people playing in one guild.

MY personal opinion is that around 300 members would be a decent member limit for guilds.

    • RE: Trade caravans...?

Caravans are both about PvE and PvP (exception is Arboreus, where there is no PvP).

Traveling distance vs profit, with risks of theft it involves. One person riding his personal cart isn't much of a gain, this will be a target of skirmishes... but a guild organizing a common caravan of many of members going together, and then another guild having a spy somewhere and hearing about it and then you have GvG around caravan goods.

    • RE: Can you edit your hero profile after its creation?

Hero profile on web is not connected with the actual game in any way.

It's just so you give other players you communicate with in forums a general idea on what are you planning to play. If you are unsure you don't need to create it. And if you do you can change it afterwards, so no worries. 🙂

      @Logain said in Trade caravans...?:

What would prevent me from taking two friends and killing your dozen veterans from a distance, one by one, retreating when in danger?

Another player attacking you alongside those merc NPCs.

NPCs should never be able to beat human players on their own. They should only be slight help so they can turn the tide if player forces are balanced against each other.

    • RE: What challenges should guild alliances face?

We heard speculations about friendly fire being included. Perhaps members of the same guild will be immune to friendly fire, but members of alliance will not, so 2 (or more) different guilds playing together will have to coordinate their attack well to not shoot on each other.

The only concern is good aligned folks being immune to friendly fire all together, gaining huge advantage over evil aligned characters.

I myself (if friendly fire is included) would turn it on, on Syndesia and Tartaros for EVERYONE, including good aligned folks, and on Arboreus it could be turned off for everyone, including evil aligned folks.

This way alignment balance could be achieved, and Arboreus can be preserved as a "PvE planet".

Also zergs on Syndesia and Arboreus could have hard time due to friendly fire, regardless of which alignment is zerging.

    • RE: Trade caravans...?

Perhaps guard NPCs can be programmed to follow your caravan but only in the zone of influence they belong to (around the city your guild controls)... after they escort you to the edge of an area of their jurisdiction, they return to patrol or back to base.

This would make an incentive for guilds to fight for controls of multiple zones, and multiple cities, because of benefits of extended area where NPC guards could help them out.

If your guild also controls neighboring area, NPC guards there can be programmed to wait you at the edge of their zone and escort you to the next city in that zone.

This could also be arranged if neighboring city is controlled by friendly guild that wants to help you out, or you pay to that guild for this service. This gives guilds that put an effort in zone control the monetary benefits of selling their NPC services to other guilds.

This is why I would suggest that NPCs (guards and other) are allowed to function only inside the zone in which they belong to, and can't be sent to escort the caravan during entire trip to the end destination.
