@miffi knowledge would still give you benefits, just a horizontal ones (like in my example from bit above) and would let you engage in wider palette of situations, so it would still be beneficial to collect it. ๐Ÿ™‚

I would prefer that much more than power scaling through ranks. This would let new players be more competitive with veterans, and this is good both for new players but for veterans as well, at least those veterans who actually seek a fun in challenge, rather then direct advantage over new players.

The principle is these are testing numbers and not finalized numbers!

Again, if you are trying to market your game as horizontally progressed game and you are marketing this with a huge emphasis on that...

Than giving such spell example is just horribly wrong. Potential players will see this as either:

      • you are lying about what you are saying in marketing
      • you don't know what you are doing as developer
      • you don't really care about promoting your game accurately, and then who knows what else is promoted completely different than it will end up to be

      Either of these is bad...

Reducing CD and scaling up damage is just inappropriate for horizontally marketed game (even if scaling would be low).

This would be horizontal "ranking up" (an example):

      Axii's Sun Strike:
(all ranks 120 mana cost, all ranks 15 sec CD, all ranks 520 damage)

      R1 ignores targets fire resistance
R2 adds a slow effect to targets
R3 never misses the targets - (hit chance based, not players aiming miss)

(Higher rank does not include benefits of previous ranks, each rank effect only works for that particular rank.)

And then player chooses which rank to slot on his skill bar depending on what he needs for particular situation.

Player could slot R1 of Sun Strike for fire resistant mobs, or R2 for melee mobs, or R3 for evasive ghostly mobs. Depending on what ranks are available in his spell book of course (what ranks he already learned).

@warpuppy said in Power gap between r1 and r3 spells is too big (POLL):

@jetah I gotta agree. If the mana cost dropped, THEN I'd say it was a bit too much, but unless your amount of mana increases in proportion, I don't see an issue.

Player A and player B have equal gear giving them both pool of 600 mana... (and for example 1000 HP pool).

(new guy) Player A has R1 spell, (veteran) Player B has R3 spell. (They are supposed to be competitive).

Spell (both r1 and r3) costs 120 mana, so both can cast it 5 times.

Player A can dish out 520x5=2600 damange in 75 seconds (CDs)... and then goes OOM.
Player B can dish out 780x5=3900 damange in 45 seconds (CDs)... and then goes OOM.

Player B has done 1000 damage (taken all player As HP pool) in 11,5 seconds.
Player B at that point has received less then ~400 damage from player A.

(I'm averaging this, since obviously cool downs are fixed numbers and it will take bit longer but end result and comparison between player A and B TTK remains the same, player B having a lot faster TTK.)

Player B is alive with 60% of his HP poll remaining.
      Player A is dead.

This is full loot PvP MMO promoting horizontal progression and new players being competitive vs veterans.

@jetah it's the matter of principle.

If you are making a showcase skills for your game, then your showcase skills are already saying a lot about what direction you are heading at with your game.

If aim of the game is horizontal progression (and that's largely marketed and promoted) then one does not make his "vertical showcase" skills with 250% power gap...

That is at the very least a HUGE neglect...

and i'm quite sure these are absolute retail launch numbers and wont ever be adjusted as play test happens.

Tweaking numbers is ok if it goes +/- 20%... to make a balance.

If someone gives you a starting (showcase) example of 250% power difference... that's an issue of serious concern.

Even if VIP would show not to give significant boost to upping your skill ranks... an issue of HUGE power gap between r1 and r3 still remains (if new players will be able to stand even a snowballs chance in hell vs veterans, let alone fight them on competitive terms).

      5% power gap - minor
      10% power gap - modest
      20% power gap - tangible
30% power gap - a lot (too much)
      50% power gap - enormous!
100% power gap - insanely ridiculous...

250% power gap - ... completely ........? (I'm sorry to say, but doesn't anyone else see this?)

A full set of r3 skills 250% (!!) more powerful then your opponent basic r1 set? And new people are supposed to be competitive? How...?

Even with 30% power gap of a full skill set you practically have a clear winner...

250% more power in all your skills... I don't know what that would be... and no one is even commenting on that, lol.

    • RE: A set of questions and suggestions/proposals.

@Target that screen actually describes pretty well how r3 spells will not be only "tiny bit" stronger than r1 (as some people assumed), but will be A LOT more powerful.

CD goes 15/12/9 from r1/r2/r3 and that's a huge difference.

If that's the principle on which all spells will lie, then someone having all r3 will be a LOT more powerful than a new guy with full r1, and the DS theory that a new guy will be ready to battle at equal terms is not correct at all. In fact it's far from it.

(yeah I know, balancing balancing, placeholders) but the very example of such huge CD difference tells a lot already. It tells that r3 spells are meant to be tangibly more powerful then r1 spells.

And it's not only the CD but the damage scales up as well 520/640/780...

      So 520 damage each 15 sec (r1)
      vs.
      780 damage each 9 sec (r3)

      AOE spell...

In this example an AOE r3 spell is 250% !!! more powerful then its r1 counterpart...

      RIP new people...

Also with this pace VIP knowledge boost easily becomes P2W... ๐Ÿ˜ž

Or maybe you will need mental repair after hearing the bards song. ๐Ÿ˜›

DS has no control over 3rd party content. You could see RMT ads on that site. That site could offer RMT itself, etc.

If itโ€™s in game then DS has full control on the information being presented.

This doesn't make any difference because 3rd party sites offering various info on game, and promoting RMT can exist regardless of in game price info. And there will be huge amount of info on web about skills, guides, everything. Price info is just a minor part of total Fractured info that will be around web.

In practical sense it doesn't make much difference.

(as I see it the key difference is)

      In game info:

      • bit more convenient (no need to press alt+tab twice) ๐Ÿ˜‰

      Community website info:

      • can browse info from outside of game (from work, coffee shop etc.) to keep updated while you are not in game

@gothix and the question is - how it will be with Lich. If I remember correctly they'll be more focused on magic - maybe it's only because of skill bonus - but maybe they'll also have stat bonus.

Perhaps they keep human flexible stats (without affinities) and they stay the same, but...

      • they gain lich racial bonus that has some magic boost
      • they lose an ability to use steampunk implants to compensate

@gothix Yeah exactly what i was thinking. All the buffs are temporary stat increases. Also i have no idea how players being able to give you haircuts would lead to P2W. In fact that makes no sense whatsoever.

If the buff coming with haircut was permanent (same as haircut) and you are able to buy haircuts in cash shop with those buffs, then this would be P2W, because you would literally be giving RL money for buffs. ๐Ÿ™‚

If you are visiting barber shop, paying the shaving in barber shop with in game gold (that you grinded from mobs), and you get a temporary buff with this shave, that is not P2W.

Iโ€™m saying if someone can find an item for 1 copper but is on the other side of the game world theyโ€™d probably pay a few gold to get it in their own town.

I also want full browsable AH because I can set traps!

What @TheRippyOne is saying is that you can get that regardless if you see it in game, or if you alt tab and see it in other window. ๐Ÿ™‚

Having it in game is just the matter of convenience, but would give you nothing extra. Of course assuming the community does a quality job with website, on the same level as devs would make it in game, featuring all important info.

Hmm visiting a barber shop (shaving) giving you a slight temporary charisma buff could make sense.

Visiting a gym, doing some workout, giving you a slight temporary strength buff (and temporary character build visual muscle boost).

Visiting a library and reading a book for a while giving you a temporary INT buff, and some mystic glow around your hands.

      ...

But all these visual changes (and buffs) would only be temporary. The permanent cosmetic changes would come from other standard sources and wouldn't be connected with buffs in any way (to avoid P2W).

    • RE: About governor pack

@harkons towns / housing fall under the planet rules and not under race rules. On one particular planet housing rules are equal for everyone who can live there (regardless of his race).

Also I don't believe you can govern a town on any planet of your choice. You are still limited by where your character (alignment/race) is able to live permanently.

So if I am demon governor, I will not be able to govern a town on Arboreus.

Also governor pack gives you only head start, you can start as governor BUT you can lose your position through game play as well. This depends on you, and circumstances around you (the community).

Anyone can become a governor eventually (even without a pack). Pack just lets you start as one right away. It gives you no additional protections or privileges, because then that would be P2W.

      @tulukaruk said in Lich Transformation:

I wonder how it will be with stats as humans have all stats on neutral and more stats points at start. Will they stay the same or will they reset?

I believe humans are being designed to be the most flexible race.

As such, humans lack racial bonuses given at start, and they also lack particular attribute affinities given at start.

      • To make up lack of affinities, they have more attribute points to chose from to be able to shift more easily between roles down the line compared to beast kin and demons.
      • To make up for lack of racial bonuses, they get the use of tech (humans can equip bodily implants, that basically give you boosts like racial bonuses would). This also goes to flexible game play, because while demons and beast kin have fixed racials, humans can change their implants and switch bonuses around to fit current role better.

So as human it pays off to boost most attribute points equally, and then by changing your decks and bodily implants during your game play, you can more effectively fit the most roles that can be played.

Meanwhile beast kin and demons are designed more to be min maxers in particular roles (schools). They can also be set up as "somewhat flexible" but not nearly as flexible as humans can.

I mean, if you are a developer, what you will do?

      1. Drink a lots of coffee (and water).
      2. use time machine ๐Ÿ˜‰

Jokes aside, the only ones who have a chance of releasing games relatively up to date with current standards are super large studios with hundreds of people that chose to release medium sized game using their full resources.

In this way game (not being a huge project, but a medium one) could get released in relatively quick time frame. Other than this, as people have said, it takes time to release a game properly.

This is why, as a developer, I would focus on game play and not on graphics, and I would try to use graphics that use cartoon-ish art style, and would try to develop a game in such way so it leaves room for various improvements down the line (to be able to easily change textures and objects down the line so graphics can be somewhat updated without messing with other parts of game code).
