    • RE: Mouse / Keyboard control

Or use it together (like I would like to).

Move with mouse most of the time, but use "WASD" (arrow keys, whatever) for an extra control option when I want to do some quick moves inside small area. Basically I would use mouse for medium / long distance movement, and "WASD" for micro movement. I would use both control options together in same time (it's not one OR the other for me).

@TheRippyOne If someone would already have your address IRL and wanted to "get rid of" you, you would have much bigger problem than message board in MMO. XD

Dark web would be much easier (and more difficult to trace back) place to arrange such "job".

@lshreve for not there is only mouse movement and no wasd at all. we're fighting that bad @Prometheus to test it at least but we're losing so far πŸ˜‰

Maybe @Prometheus is using an Italian keyboard so he doesn't have W, and this is the reason why Fractured will not have WASD movement. 🀣

@dyeliot said in About Game Play:

      1. Will the best gear in the game be player made or drops?

I'd just comment here that there will be no "best gear overall". Gear will be horizontally customizable, so it's effects can be changed, but overall it will be equally powerful as an other piece, just with different utility.

This means there will be no "the best gear overall" but some gear will be better for certain situations (an armor with fire resistance will be better to protect you from fire type enemies, meanwhile it will suck against protecting you from water type enemies).

Players will be able to customize their gear by using professions, and prepare spare sets for themselves for different situations.

    • RE: Horizontal design?

@driftingdragon Gear shouldn't be that difficult to re craft. That's the whole point. Full loot + minor time set back to re craft your gear and you are back into the fight (you can also pre craft your gear and keep spare sets in town banks or your housing storage, so when you lose your gear you can just pick up one of the spare sets and instantly back into action.

I'd guess you will also be able to break down gear back into base materials (possibly with some % loss) so if you loot a lots of gear from other players, you can get a lots of materials and use those for something else (other possible professions) or sell the materials.

So guilds will be able to get materials by PvE (harvesting) or PvP (stealing). Game is supposed to be quick and fun, so gear will not be hard to craft.

Likely easy to craft, and perhaps a bit more difficult to customize (change its horizontal attributes and effects, or it's looks).

    • RE: What can we learn from other similar pojects?

The most important (for me) is performance in large scale battles, so large group PvP can be fun and depend on skill and tactics, instead of on who has less lag. πŸ™‚

i just open it and close the email. i assume there's a hidden image 1x1 px that checks if it's been loaded (read) then adds the points to your account.

I doubt it could work like that. That would only work if mail contained some trigger that auto loaded data from Fractured server and then IF you are also logged into Fractured site with your Fractured account, and your mail loaded the data from IP, and Fractured site checks that IP and then if anyone is logged into Fractured site as well from that IP then system awards the points to that account. But that seems majorly over complicated, lol. AND would be a pretty serious breech of security... having a mail that auto triggers loading of external web data without your authorization instantly when you open it... this would get so abused by viruses...

Pretty sure it might be read confirmation that some mail providers pass to senders. So Fractured server gets delivered notification when their mail letter gets delivered, and then from some providers they also get read receipt when you actually open the mail (like viber and whatsapp messages work with those 2 check marks), and then points get awarded.

This is probably why it works for some people and doesn't work for other people (with some mail providers that don't pass read receipts to senders).

Another question would be, what would you think about a signboard/post board (kinda like the Witcher 3) where you could post some notices for other players to read, like, advertising your business/guild or asking for help.
Could it work or would it be abused?

Abused? As in, would somebody post spam on it?

This happens already in other MMOs with public/global/region/map/... chat and whispers, so the answer is "yes".

As long as only house owner can post there, I think it would be ok.

I doubt gold spam bots will have housing. πŸ˜‰
(Or at least I hope that housing won't be that easy to obtain. I hope it requires some decent effort.)

just open the email then you can close it. that's all it takes to trigger the quest. you could probably just mark as unread and come back later to read it.

Never tried just opening and closing it. I always click on "check your progress" button just in case.

    • RE: Secrets in game

@tulukaruk said in Secrets in game:

i'd prefer a system that rewards you for visiting enough (secretly marked) places. ie there are 100 places in the whole world and if you visit 20 you get a reward, then for 50 then 80. There is no counter so you don't know if you visited that place - so it would be hard to tell others where to go πŸ˜‰ You'd just have to explore everything.

Or even better (so it doesn't just reward completitionist explorers) when you visit all hidden spots that belong to a certain group (for example 20 temple sites, or 20 hidden nests, etc.) you get a small mysterious HINT. If you figure it out, and do what's needed, you get to start a mystery quest (holding more puzzles) that rewards you with a cool reward at the end if you manage to solve it.

I did all investigation quests at The Secret World almost without google an walkthrough. Just used google for the informations that was needed for solving them, like converter for binary code or translator for long forgetted languages. And just took the help of a guide at these terrible morse code parts πŸ˜„

      Same. πŸ™‚
I usually resorted to asking guildies for "small hints" when some part was specially hard, and then continued to cracking it further on my own. Google just takes all fun out of it, specially in TSW where missions were really awesome.

I'd actually prefer no PVP at all..

Sorry, this is (as stated in title) a PvP poll. PVE-ers can go create own polls. πŸ˜‰

      For example:
If you had to chose, what you prefer to do?

      • Picking flowers
      • Fishing
      • Trying to kill bears
      • Getting killed by bears
      • Eating cookies while watching other PVE-er getting killed by bears (and laugh)
      • Running away when you realize those bears saw you
      • Trying to bribe bears with cookies
      • Getting killed by bears (oh wait, we have that one already)

      @gothix
so you wouldn't be ok with seeing just sections translated from a list of phrases and/or words? Where the translated text is a different color or a hoverover to see the original text?

Pre written phrases are OK, because they would be written in correct English (Help, Demons are invading! LFG for grinding in Syndesia! Etc.)

It's real time translator that would be a problem. Because then chat would look like this:

Lee: Me integration nice day, clan warfare.
Boris: What are you, incredible statement, no understanding.
Khalif: Sale, herb only not under sun, travelling quick.
Hans: Demons, schnell in Arboreus, aus weapon having.
Pierre: White flag, le now quick wave, not voulez, away.
Meho: Pas mater, the whole familija.

(Of course, I'm sketching this a bit, but auto translated general chat would definitely be a pain I would not wish to see. It's because translators suck.)

@pepix said in do you want a translator in game and in the forum?:

if a game wants to make a difference, create an instant translation of the chat, attracts a huge number of users to the game, creating a long-lasting game very aggregate

      Not really.

I prefer to see at least decent English in chat. If there was auto translator present, and my world chat would be full of "broken English" spam (auto translator would only translate in non quality way) then that chat would suck for me to such measure that I would likely turn it off.

So no auto translator please. Ty.

Instead I'd prefer several versions (different channels) of world chat (English, German, Italian, French, Spanish,...) so people that wish to chat in their own language can chat in specialized channel.

I'd hate translator in chat so much.

    • RE: Suggestion - herb gardens and a spice trade

It doesn't need to be RL drugs. Just some invented herbs (that don't exist on Earth) that would be outlawed in Fractured worlds. They might have some effects when consumed (these effects can be discussed, for example temporary attribute boost but followed by having negative attribute effect in after effect, or whatever, or if you stop consuming them regularly they cause hallucinations).

There can be many ideas, that don't interfere with RL laws, and could cause tricky legal situation for the game.

Hmmm, a garden in cellar where one can grow some (illegal) herbs...

But if NPC guards catch you with those on your way to town market, they should attack you on sight. πŸ˜‰
