    • RE: Let's pray for sick Blizzard :(

Blizzard has been... tone deaf for a long time. Where not everything that people say should be taken and run with, that is entirely different from Blizz's "We know best, even if that means that the entire rest of the world is wrong and we have to change the meaning of the words in use".

I continually find myself surprised they haven't alienated a far greater number of people. At the same time, I hope they don't (because I like people having fun, even if there are reasons not to like the company involved).

    • RE: 4th planet of angelics: harsh PVE, banned PVP.

It's a possible eventual scenario, but it has a number of problems for the initial launch (not the least being more work, more cost, and delays).

There's a lot of balance issues there, along with the issue of people who would core for "Pure PvE" feeling like it was a lie due to the resource distribution (different places and planets having different things) that exists in this game.

So where there's always a possible something there, odds on it being anytime soon, or being quite what some people want, may be low.

    • RE: Identifying Guilds...

Optional guild logos on things would be cool. As to the spy feature, it could well be turned around by guilds that NEVER wear guild logo stuff in town... spy comes in and gets brutally murdered.

There's a lot of possibilities there, if it is optional. I also do like it being able to be placed on a couple different pieces of gear as well, although cloaks or armor will likely be the only reasonable choices with the isometric angles.

    • RE: Will Animation Cancelling become a combat mechanic one day?

Animation cancelling may LOOK smoother, but it makes it mandatory to compete which becomes a pain in and of itself. Instead of worrying about animation cancelling, let's just have animations that fit what is happening, and not be painful hogs of too much time.

Simpler, easier on everyone playing, and it allows for similar fluid play. There's simply no need for animation cancelling if things are done well, imo. That does mean that long animations need to be rare things for special situations or abilities... but that's fine too.

Indeed. Make useful posts or note that you helped spread the word if you want to win a key for pre-alpha. Otherwise, alpha and beta key stuff is just in packages yet.

    • RE: Fractured Content Pills - Week 43, 2018

@gofrit The problem in general that I have seen is that torches are merely a highlight of where the people who are ignorant are, unless there are actually big disadvantages to moving through the dark without one.

The big advantage to the truly dark screen, is that people work around that to see when it is not intended. Which makes it pointless.

So my note is that BOTH of those problems need addressed, or the entire idea of a dark night and light sources becomes rendered nothing but something to abuse.

@vortech So long as they find a method to keep people from altering the night brightness in various ways, sure. However, experience with recent efforts toward really dark nights in PvP games has shown that to be... tough at best.

Ideally there should be downsides to things like not using light at night as well, beyond just not seeing as much detail. Otherwise, using light is nothing but a "Hey there, come attack me!" indicator in a PvP area (whether as a trap or a person being an easy target). I think slower movement to account for the difficulties could be part of that (which is pretty realistic even on a good moonlit night in the mountains high elevation). I'd also like to see things like beasts that hunt at night being a potential source of problems there. I don't want it too punishing either, though, or else it becomes a "Well, go afk until night is over" situation that does the game no good.

I do like nights that are darker, and offer some problems with regard to doing things without a light source... but those concerns, especially with PvP, are no minor matter. I'll take lighter nights if I must to alleviate those problems.

    • RE: Alignment restricted spells?

It is one more thing to worry about balance wise, but I do like the idea of different schools and alignments applying to some spells, just like I noted in the summoning topics.

I think my biggest concern is that neutral alignments or skill trees don't get relegated to being weak, since all too often that is the case.

    • RE: Restoration magic and summons

Would be interesting to see various summons have both corrupted and pure forms, or going even further have summons tied to a third set of magic for a corrupted/natural/purified setup. The cost, of course, is artwork and differences for them.

For example, we could take a wolf. A Necromantic summon might result in an undead warg. A neutral summon would just be a wolf. A Restoration summon could then be some sort of 'good wolf', for example a wolf which can heal or harm via restoration (such as bites causing bonus damage against evil, or healing when licking a wound). The balancing would be the interesting issue there, of course.

I think to make things less extreme, the neutral would either need a lower cost, or more ideally something interesting with regard to the natural end. Maybe, instead of a normal wolf, you summon a wolf with a random elemental power or something.

Various games in towns could be fun. Would be an interesting way to resolve some conflicts as well, if group members didn't want to /flipacoin.

    • RE: Dungeon master tool

It might be, but I expect that would be a fair way down the road. Buildings seem like they will be mostly pre-defined by a set of blueprints just yet. IF they get enough time to toss into a modular system of some sort then we could get some more creativity going with that, but that's something that is a lot of extra work for a rather small segment of the population (including me, I build crazy stuff when given the chance)! At least, that was my impression from the blogs and videos.

Anyway, think of it as a 'That'd be nice, but there's a bunch of other bigger priorities' and I'd bet you'll be spot on. ๐Ÿ™‚

    • RE: Social interaction buffs

@muker I understand the concern, but instead of merely avoiding it... having an option for a 'quick trim' that doesn't change the character looks (basically maintenance on your look) would allow for the system without making people frustrated about changing their hair style!

    • RE: Fishing in Fractured

Fishing can be as complex or as simple as desired, and people tend to either enjoy it or not. At least, this is what I have seen in other games. In general, the shift merely changes who enjoys it.

Either way, as long as the rest of the game is solid fishing won't really hurt (unless, like in so many other games, it becomes a hard requirement of absolute boredom that leaves people looking for cheating tools...)

    • RE: Lich Transformation unlocked!

Lich is a full spectrum, as Kellewic said. It's stated on the news/blog that:
"One final word here. You thought a Lich has an Evil alignment? Just because itโ€™s not technically alive anymore? Bad! Prejudice! A Human turning into a Lich preserves its Karma and Alignment โ€“ itโ€™s no different from a regular Human in this regard!"

Also, they covered that they have weaknesses as well as bonuses in that same blog.

Customization is good. I don't need an extreme amount, but I do like not having every person look exactly the same!

    • RE: How is the Development Team going to solve...

That is how games have been developed since... well, since Pong was the height of computer games. Games take 5-8 years on average (for the bigger titles) and have since the 90s at least.

There's not a game out there being developed on RTX 3080Ti (a very few might be aiming for 2050) right now... so should that be out and about for development (games will still aim for 1080 at that point, likely, as they love to maximize playerbase) it will be several years before the big graphics hit in development.

    • RE: Professions, crafting, and building...oh my!

Perhaps the best resource out there would be the crafting Q&A from the livestream on the news page. Whether you have the patience to listen through it all on video is up to you. I know that video is a less than ideal source for information to many people.

Maybe the devs can give us a bit more of the crafting stuff in a spotlight here?!?

    • RE: Here's hoping for a game I can get into!

Story here will... be more what we all make of it. However, there's a lot of people that underestimate how much fun that can be, and just how involved a system with full in game economics can become when it isn't just a short grind to get anything done, and especially when things are not available in all locations.

Anyway, hope you find something here to enjoy!
