the system works in PoE because there is no, or very little, pvp. once pvp is in the equation then you have to have a means to easily balance.

problem is your (yes RL you) strength, stamina can change by doing or not doing things. having resets, limited of course, is better for the game. -

I played diablo 2 back in the day (pre expansion time). I had no idea about the game but it looked fun and i had a few friends that played it. i played a wizard/sorc and choose fireball as my primary ability. i was pretty much stopped at a later act because i couldn't do enough damage to kill the groups of mobs. i found a trainer that would allow me to swap my skill points (offline of course) into the Frozen Orb skill. and OMG did that frost skill do so much more damage.
There are times where you even read builds and decide to try them only for you to not enjoy the playstyle. Now compound that with the need to find knowledge to unlock spells and any given character could need 1-6 months to catch up to your main but may have only 5 attribute points difference.

Attribute change being "possible" doesn't mean it has to be "free".
It can be possible to change attributes, but it can be BOTH limited by long cool down, and super expensive, so it will also require considerable effort on your part to be able to do it.
So group block can still play knowing that choice has tangible consequence, and group free can eventually change their attributes if they will not like their current ones, they will just need to place some effort in that, and not get it for free.
I'm in the expensive and over time group myself.
it can cost 10k gold, 1000 of every resource to redo 1 point per month/quarter/bi-year/year. Then it can increase every time a point is changed. the game has gods, they seem pretty active. no reason why they wouldn't want to help our the followers.

so you tried Archeage out when it was in alpha in korea? because the western beta/release was already well beyond what this game is.this is the first open access stress test. they did give a few keys out to those in the foundation but was limited to 100 or 500 and I doubt all of them were playing simultaneously. I still say they had more people during this stress test than they were anticipating. there is clearly something wrong with the hardware or software. they even made a post about having to close the stress test early because it was pointless.

only the people who min-max will have different race alts. the majority of the players will stick with 1.the start of a game, many people will not research the mechanics for hours before trying it out. thus they will mostly go in blind and will rely on the tooltips that popup on the screen at creation. many developers just give some basic information on that screen 'as to not overwhelm or confuse' the new player. having a player dictate stats at that point is pretty horrible. which is why a reset or a way to adjust them is needed.
during alpha (the test phase) there should be a way to change them every fight. we're here to find bugs as well as give feedback. having to create a new character for every point change is tedious for an alpha tester.

why can't you have fluid attribute points? it'd mimic our bodies! i mean we need immersion!
races just start at a certain point. that's it. fluid attributes means you can make a blood race melee. but without that they're stuck. so if you like the character design but you want a melee player then you're gimping yourself and teammates by selecting it.
now that i think about it, having races with static starting attributes goes against the core design of the game. where your knowledge allows you to change skills for a situation.
and i didn't argue against my self, i pointed out there are two perspectives to games!

Btw you can look what you want to look like and so far your attributes are the only decision you make, all else is changeable ingame.
if you want 1 race but the starting stats are horrible for your play type then you'll be less effective than those that choose the other race. why would people want an under performing race/spec combo?

He has the choice.pre stat distributions are a guidance to be a certain playstyle whether the person likes the aesthetics of it or not. the demons have 3 choices, the beast 5 and the humans 1 (i'm leaving gender out of it).

Equipment should be easily replacable.
that's my thing, if it's easily replaceable then it shouldnt jump so much from tier 1 to tier 2.
it would suck to be a new player, not in a guild know nothing about the game, and run against 1 other player with steel or better gear while using sticks. you'll already do 20% or less damage, wont have the knowledge to do extra damage, wont have the gear to reduce or increase your damage. it's a lose-lose system for new players. that to me isn't really horizontal.

to me horizontal is any new player can win against a veteran if skill is the same. but an automatic 20% damage difference between the starter crafts and steel is just too much. now i'd play a test to actually see how bad that difference is but as asspirin mentioned it's much more than what you'd get with skills. -

Probably not very long since you have to PK people and most likely the penalty for that will be big on Arboreus.
I am also very curious how PVP will work in Fractured.
I am also very curious about it and I hope it doesn't follow the aoe-heavy trend.
Arboreus will not have good v good pvp. it's actually impossible to do that at all. furies have to travel to the human planet to kill neutral players there.

something like that. it was posted by @Prometheus a while ago so i'm not sure if it's changed. basically there's zero advantage by demons as group/guild/alliance FF is on at all times while the Beast dont really have FF (on the fury planet). so an attack on the furies by demons means multiple negatives.
