    • RE: Alpha or something before KS?

Since the pre-alpha has that NDA, a few dozen keys could go out pre-kickstarter. When KS starts the NDA is dropped (specific for that test) so those players can give feedback in the KS comments and here on the forums. I understand that pre-alpha stage isn't a really good time to hype the game but I'm skeptical about how it'll work out in a game. I've been overpromised before.

I'd label it 'pre-kickstarter test' and the keys would only be used for said test. I've seen kickstarter test happen before. enough to let people get in for a week or while the campaign was going.

@jameow said in Are you a PVP or PVE player?:

@jetah It depends what people are looking for. Some people don't find other players challenging or rewarding to fight, just irritating. Some people feel anxious in those sorts of situations and just don't get anything out of it.

It also depends on the game. Sometimes people are just not equipped for it, and so they're at a disadvantage. Some people don't have a connection that would make them competitive in a serious fight, or they don't have the reaction time. Sometimes PvP just comes down to who has the better gear or is more ontop of the metagame, while other people have no interest in that, so they don't win fights or care enough to want to. For some it just triggers a flight response. Other times it's just that often attacks are opportunistic, rarely a fair fight and so for a lot of people it's just more trouble than it's worth, disrupting their enjoyment, rather than enhancing it.

Personally, I just have to be in the mood for it to enjoy it. I'm rarely in that mood. If attacked, I'll defend myself but otherwise I'm not looking for a fight.

I always try to get combat experience out of pvp. if I lose/die, figure out how I died how to counter it-if possible and can I use it next fight or sometime in the future.

I was the temid player back in the day which didn't like pvp. I died in UO joining a friends private server and that made me never want to pvp again. but I moved on and learned to enjoy the combat. I played Overwatch so much that playing Destiny 2 was a huge let down because the AI is so simple. It's been a while since I've remembered my anti-pvp days.

@fibs said in What kind of character will you play? race/class?:

I have no idea. I have to know what kind of game it is first and what options are available

isometric, so most MOBAs, Path of Exile, Diablo (franchise), Devilian, Torchlight, etc.
fantasy MMO (think WoW with a stuck camera)
Here are the Races but it can be condense into Beast, Human, Demon.

Classes won't really exist because of the skill system while needing to learn said skills via the Knowledge system.

@jetah Usually not fun, usually not rewarding, usually not fair. PVP-focused games are for scrubs, the kind who play Elder Scrolls and just murder every NPC they see and never take a quest

I guess that's what I'm not understanding. I know fun is subjective, rewards can be underwhelming (destiny 2). But that unfair part is hanging me up. Are you talking about world pvp because I can't see arena pvp being unfair.

To me a human is the best "AI" we'll have for a long time. I usually suggest to people who don't PvP to think of the enemy as 'well scripted AI'. Playing some PvE aspects is like hitting on target dummies. Not much happens and they're predictable. PvP is unpredictable because humans. Well that last one is iffy because humans learn habits and stick to them.

Ironically, I like PvP focused games and haven't played Elder Scrolls (ESO was the first ES game I played and it lasted a month or less).

@vengu said in Clarification on the target audience:

I've warned Prometheus months ago that there's a good chance the beastmen world will actually become the main PvP hotspot because they'll be seen as carebears. Judging by the comments in the PK punishment thread, this is exactly what seems to be happening. Prometheus talked about some of the measures to make it harder for gankers to gank on Arboreus, but I would like more details about those measures now that it's clear that many gankers are going to make Arboreus their main target. Personally, I wish they would just turn off PvP completely on Arboreus. Fractured would be one of the first sandbox MMOs without forced PvP if players don't want it, giving them the whole PvE sandbox market to themselves. Instead, I got the feeling they rather make the same mistake every sandbox game has made before them, somehow expecting a different outcome. 😞

So yeah, I agree with Logain that it's time for the devs to give us a clarification on the target audience. Is this a game where they want PvE and PvP players to co-exist on different planets, or do the devs envision a game where Beastmen are cattle for the Demons.

For me at least, as i would rlly love to play my healer beastman, it would make sense if Arboreus mas made Pve only (eventually with one or 2 pvpve areas), makes sense that the demon area apart from main hubs would be more pvp oriented, and human area being the mix in between. That way there would be something for every player to enjoy depending on their preference.

what about my preference to do some challenging content on Aboreus as an evil human or demon?

also just because we don't LIKE PVP doesn't mean we CANT PVP.

so if you all could stay on point with the topic and get off the semantics then my original though stands. I don't get the OPs point as this game seems to offer something for every gaming style.

      Thank You!

I know there will be people on Aboreus that will pvp and those are the ones i'm looking for. Sure i may kill some others but it's to rally up those that do want to fight.

The game seems to hit the 4 Bartle Types pretty good.

      • Killers: interfere with the functioning of the game world or the play experience of other players
      • Achievers: accumulate status tokens by beating the rules-based challenges of the game world
      • Explorers: discover the systems governing the operation of the game world
      • Socializers: form relationships with other players by telling stories within the game world

The whole game is based around exploring and doing things, that's how we gain skills. I'd guess some socialization will be there too.

If the OP meant age ranges then I'm not sure.

we should not summon EVE that's a shitty ganker game :P. I just talking about numbers and the only real succesfull mmo is wow bro 😉

fractured have 3 planets so 3 instanced spots. Planets can be managed like servers imho. I would like to see arboreus like a pve server of wow where if you want to pvp you have to flag yoruself otehrwise go to another planet

eve has had an average of 37k online users for the last 10 years. If you compare every success to wow then there will never be another mmo that is successful. Successful is the company making a profit and releasing new content.

Now if you want to compare numbers, then Riot with LoL has more numbers than WoW so that wouldn't make WoW a success any more.

      @finland said in Griefing/Ganking ?:

You are right mate we have different point of view. But I don't dislike pvp as a playstyle. I just want to do pvp when I want. for example back to wow I enjoyed defending cities under attack or joining battlegrounds. For sure not beeing attack while questing/exploring/gathering that's why I played on a RP server :P. It's silly that's the only decent mmo where hide.. kinda boring after 11 years don't you think? that why I'm looking forward by many years.

it's the level system that makes it a horrible system. If a level 1 could protect themselves or even kill a level 110 then it could be a completely different game. Blizzard has scaling now so I could see them doing just that.

it's good to hear you do enjoy some pvp. seems i made my reply on the other post without understanding.

    • RE: What about solo players?

@finland said in What about solo players?:

what's the point to solo play? it's a MMO if you know what it means. You are supposed to play with others. If you like solo you can play single player games like tetris 😉

Why play a game with pvp if you aren't going to pvp?

      @ everyone:

What type of solo activities do you enjoy? I'm not sure if Fractured will have instanced or not dungeons or raids but I'm curious. Don't list gathering and crafting/building either. Something outside of that.

IE I can see exploring the world as being a great solo (or group) activity. I could see Fractured having a fog of war everywhere without a map. An explorer could create a map and sell/trade/give.

@Phaethonas you are right! But I tell you a thing: there are no good MMORPG playable/Enjoyable. I'll go back to WoW Classic for sure but none knows a date about the final release 😉

it's because you don't like conflict in said game. if you try to pvp you may very well enjoy it. You seem to like skyrim or Elder Scroll type games but want to see other people.

We just seem to have opposite views on games.

Eve is doing great cause it's the only one space based 😉 and I don't think it's a niche game. Not going to talk about PoE cause I have no clue about that game. But keep making games for the same target is pointless by me.. there are billions mmo gankfest around (mostly dead? wondering why hahahaha:P).

Eve is one of the very few that has passive skill training with no levels. Oh and Eve has pvp. I lost my hauler with 1.5b worth of goods in safe space!
I'd say it's mostly the people that can't handle failure (pvp death) that wants the game changed, the developers do that then they leave anyways. once people start to bail then others follow then a game is shut down.

Wow had pve - pvp - pvepvp - pvprp and rp servers 😉 that was the best way to offer to players every kind of gameplay ;). No punishment here means a game with a target only for pvpers 😉 kinda annoying cause it s full of game with that target

those poor helpless resources you attack don't have a chance to run or flee to another planet.

Eve Online has 1 server, WoW has 30+, Fractured will have 1 (unless it changes). Just play in the places where demons & humans fear to go.

The punishment for PvP is death. that's the worst part of PvP. If beings are force teleported off the planet then killing them is the fastest way to deal with a raid.

Eve Online is niche and is doing great! I'm wanting to say PoE is niche also.

    • RE: Changing character alignment

Think of each planet as a faction: Beastkin, Human and Demon. Guilds will be limited to alignment so Beastkin/Human, Human/Demon and vary rarely Beastkin/Demon.

I read a post that said it would be complicated to switch alignment, doable but difficult. We're able to have alts (I'd assume 3 characters max per account) so you could join said great community guild with an alt.
