@00 ingame gold is power. It doesn't buy only gear (as much as you want, every time you lose it so you have no downtime on playing) it also buys consumables, materials, and player services mercenary protection, mercenary force for sieges, and so on.

Ingame gold IS P2W, if you can convert real money into it. And you can if you are able to sell sub items (or any cash shop items) in exchange for in game gold.

May I suggest Rift, Allods Online, Wildstar or other similar games for those of you who like such a thing.

gold isn't power unless we have abilities that use Gold as a resource.

gear is power. oddly enough Wildstar has PLEX/Tokens/VIP too! but it was never considered P2W.

it's better for DS to offer VIP for gold than to have 3rd party sites offer it.

(Whoever wants to play Fractured, please grow some skills and then play, rather then relying on P2W. Thank you.)

I'm sorry but skill doesn't grow. Again you can spend 5k and still lose wars. DS isn't offering P2W, they would be offering VIP to those that otherwise can't afford the additional cash each month.

and many of that can't be noticed.

Watch the game play video again and tell me what you can notice about the character(s) being played. I'll link the video so you don't have to search for it.

There's a reason most isometric games don't have character customization!

One except I know of is Devilian (which shutdown in the west). Here is a character creation video:

and here's a gameplay video (with character creation):

Now I'll tell you that I can't notice which face was selected by skipping the character creation during gameplay (except when they do that zoom in, which I don't expect to see in a PvP game)

there are virtual credit card numbers you can use to make payments to those sites. you can set a limit on that specific "card" so they can't spend more than that. (I actually use this for all online spending)

people wanting to spend cash to win don't care if they lose their account because they probably have multiple accounts.

Why would anyone want to play with a controller? Do people hate themselves that much that they want to suffer constantly?
And so far it seems that fractured won't support controllers, and oh I hope so. This was one of the reason Tree of Savior died.

there are disabled people who can only use a controller.

      perfect example(s):

Build, skin tone, only obvious attributes would likely be visible. Might depend on how much we can zoom the camera in.

build, maybe, as it'll depend on how armor works. If there are multiple layers then you can make a small person look thick.

skin tone will probably be covered by armor. unless you want Tera style armor.

@gothix said in About the VIP membership:

@Jetah Devs will not allow $$ to gold transfer, and people that go around that (by using 3rd party websites or whatever else) for this purpose will get banned. As simple as that. Yes you can try it, same like you can commit crime IRL, but GL if you get caught. Devs can not prevent people sending each other cash over paypal, and trading gold, but they can certainly ban them when they catch them.

Not to mention that if you go and do that you not only risk your account getting banned, but you also risk getting screwed for your cash by other player, so GL with that.

Generating in game gold from RL cash is P2W, because, as @Target explained to you you can (besides gear, consumables, materials,...) also buy player services with ingame gold (mercenary services etc.).

Now you might be lazy or have no time to actually play to get gold, but that's (guess what) your own problem. If you want P2W game where you can convert money for ingame gold then you will need to go and play something else.

I'd also advice Prometheus to keep an eye on you (when game releases) since obviously you have such intents.

the resources spent to find that out is much more than just allowing the VIP to be traded for gold via a UI. I'm sorry but others will see the P2W regardless because anyone can sell everything via 3rd parties.

it will be possible to buy a whole town if you want to, via 3rd party. as long as trading exist there will be P2W! I'm sorry that you're too blinded by what the Dev's said to realize that. Of course DS won't sell items directly but anyone can farm to craft a weapon or armor then sell it on ebay or other sites.

@jetah you might need a pair of glasses mate if you have trouble noticing all that. 🙂

when you play Path of Exile, Diablo 2/3, or any other isometric game you can notice eye color? You can recognize a nose ring in an enemy? You can recognize which eyebrows the player selected?

      @Gofrit
why spend the time and salary for something that isn't noticeable by everyone? I'd rather the 30-50k be used for something else than a nose ring, different eyebrows, multiple jaws, etc options where just the user will notice-at least for launch.

I hate dyes as a costly fiat consumable but what about fur/skin dye? make it temporary around a month real time, similar to those temp hair dyes, and the item is consumed. Personally I'd prefer to not see these in the cash shop but could be rewarded during events! During a Valentines event we could have pink temporary dye! Green during St. Patrick's, etc.

Great idea. How about easy to make/get but short time dyes (like 1-3 days), hard to make/get long time ones (one month or even permanent till you wash it out/recolor).

permanent dyes or no dyes at all.

    • RE: Controller Support?

I mentioned WASD movement for controllers. opening the game up to disabled players would be beneficial to the game. This would allow controllers to use WASD to move.

      OR

there's native controller support which makes movement with the pad/stick.

I'm actually surprised there aren't any ADA (for the US) laws to force game developers to support some disabilities.

Overal body build (tiny, muscly, overweight, high, short,...), horn style, tail style, ear style (beast kin), skin texture (i reckon armor will be designed to leave some parts uncovered), claws/paws style, hair/fur style (MMOs usually come with an option to hide helm), big tattoos that cover an area that's not covered by armor, skins for cloaks, skins for armors, skins for weapons, perhaps even a voice type.

      There could be more.

body build - depending on the differences you may never notice.
ear style - hardly noticeable though.
skin - covered by gear. even if there are open areas, i doubt you'd notice it while in combat.
claws/paws - again, hardly notice it.
      tattoos - see skin

like I mentioned before. most of this will not be visible. UNLESS there's an option to hide it while in a 'safe' area. I just feel it's a wasted development at this stage in the games life.

      @gothix
VIP is a fluff though. Why would DS only limit sales to the specific account when they could double their revenue by allowing people to buy it and trade it for gold (or w/e resource).

when DS said there would be no P2W they meant from them. Anyone can visit a 3rd party site and buy gear there. I'd much prefer DS sell the VIP for a $ then allow the person to trade it for gold (or w/e resource) via an anon AH market UI.

This enables someone with time an opportunity to get VIP without needing to pash cash for it. Remember that some places have horrible exchange rates and a VIP may be way out of that range. While others might not have PayPal or Credit Cards.

Even if VIP is self purchased, like you want, what's to stop me from sending 15$ to someone so they can buy VIP?

If you expect to never see cash exchanged for goods then video games aren't the place to see that. Even Diablo 3, which has account bound everything has spam for paragon grinding, unlocking certain greater rifts and other account services. If you really want no P2W then every gear has to be bound to the player.

Are you trying to prove my point for me? The person that paid the mercenaries paid to win. I don't think it's healthy for the game when conflict is decided by whoever is willing to throw money around.

there's always 3rd party sales when it comes to games like this. either DS offers VIP directly for in game gold or those people seek it elsewhere. There was a person that spent 70k in Eve Online that was going to lose a war.

I'd prefer DS offer VIP for gold (via the cash shop UI where the buyer and seller doesn't know each other) than it be an item that's traded directly.

@jetah Sure, but whose going to hand them out? short of the 6 gods literally showing up and saying "Here's how to walk!" I don't currently see where we're getting the npcs to issue the quests. I mean, we could start out with just random text boxes offering to explain stuff, but it just feels weird?

As to limited abilities - we're all supposed to start with a combat ready selection of skills, in theory, since the dev's are assigning them by preset, last I heard. Given that, I sort of doubt that there'd be a "beginner's area" per say, unless it's on an instanced asteroid for that purpose.

If you are recognized by the gods then good for them stepping out to acknowledge you. I’d be perfectly OK for that to happen!

The spotlight covers this saying there are small starting areas that are free from PvP. Demons have Nest and I’m not sure what the others are.

I doubt you’ll notice much of anything outside of the character select screen.

Eye color - can’t see them.
      Facial features - see above.
Skin pigment - if you wear armor, odds are it’ll be covered.

What will make your character unique will be the visual of the gear and the combinations you choose. Outside of the abilities you select.

Outside of horns, spikes, I don’t see how adding character cosmetic selection is a good use of funds.

    • RE: About the VIP membership

@needlehawk said in About the VIP membership:

This is what the FAQ says about VIP membership:

      9. VIP MEMBERSHIP? WHAT'S THAT ABOUT?
VIP membership is a monthly subscription planned to be priced around $10/month. It provides the following perks:

      • Discounts on Store items
      • Unique cosmetic rewards for accumulated VIP time
      • Other vanity rewards we might think of in the future
      • Additional study slots
      • Increased Knowledge Point gains

      10. IS VIP MEMBERSHIP "PAY TO WIN"?
Fractured characters are already competitive from day 1. The core of progression afterwards consists of completing tasks requiring you to travel and perform a wide range of exploration- and experimentation-related activities.
The bonuses from VIP membership have nothing to do with the above, since they only impact the passive “studying phase” that kicks in once the tasks have been completed. Moreover, they've been balanced so that they only speed up progression for "completionists" who want to learn a ton of abilities (beyond what's actually useful for each character). Because of this, VIP membership ultimately has no impact on actual PvP competition, not between individuals nor between guilds.

      @Gothix
I see no P2W in the VIP as listed.

There are two major types of players. Those with time and no money, those with money and no time. When these two meet up and trade gold/items whatever for tokens/VIP/PLEX/etc it's a wonderful income for the developers.

Remember that there is full loot! If someone does buy a full outfit, they can lose it. (which isn't winning at all)

actually it opens up subs to those that can't afford it or the currency is so horrible in value.

I'd argue if everyone has access to VIP via trading tokens then it isn't P2W because it's accessible.
