i joined 13 days ago and have yet to see one. Not sure how often they go out though.

Scratch that, I decided to check my gmail stuff right after and seems it went right to Trash for some reason - need to review my filters and see why. Last one was the live stream - 7 days ago.

Of course it's not normal to have the forum opened for days like I do but still

I keep it open in a tab all the time 🙂 Never ran into the error though on Chrome. Not sure I've ever been logged out.

    • RE: I want to get excited but...

Since gear and skills have been described as situational, my guess is even a player who has played longer/has more knowledge can still be caught at a disadvantage. If I'm sneaking around on my assassin based character ready to jump someone with my poison blade and that person happens to have some high resist to that, that might not be good for me and my ambush.

Just an example since we don't really know the skills or gear types/bonuses might exist.

Also since there are no set classes, it's always going to be a risk attacking another player since you'll likely not know what their set up for skills/gear is at that time.

@target yeah even a hardcore ffa pvp game like Darkfall had siegetimers if I remember correctly. So everything you builded was protected untill someone applied to siege.

The thing with one worldwide server though is timewidows vs timezones. In EVE Online the alliances are so big it doesn't matter that much. But on a smaller scale you could see a split in EU settlements and NA settlements

This is an issue in most games since prime playing time in NA is around 10pm and later UTC and prime playing time in Europe is around lunchtime in the NA.

@finland said in What We Know About Weapons:

@kellewic A real mage should be able to cast spell without using weapons. Like a monk should be able to punch and kick without weapons.

Of course they should, but adding a few subtle "unarmed" enhancing items would be fun. It shouldn't take a lot of extra skill to kick someone with a spiked boot or leather gloves with small spikes on them? A martial artist can still make unarmed strikes with spiked gloves - just enhanced a little by the gloves. Kicking with a foot is still kicking whether I have a bare foot or steel toe boots.

I was going to show the PoE cosmetics but no matter what service I try I can't get the image to show up here (tried my Google Drive, Photos, several 3rd party image upload services).

take a screen, save the image. then come to the forum and upload the image. It's the last icon after the emoji.

Ah, didn't even see it there. Last character I played in PoE Abyss league showing the more subtle cosmetics I mentioned.

In general, I like the PoE cosmetics (and have many), the ones I really don't like are the huge light rings around the players (called auras maybe?). The more subtle ones are ok.

I hope "unarmed" doesn't literally mean "no weapon" - seems something like spiked gloves should still qualify - thinking leather with spikes on outside so grappling is still available. Razor/spiked boots for kicking.

    • RE: Dungeons

I'm hoping for subterranean "dungeons" where I'm walking along and spot this cave... oh, what's that? Go in, twists and turns... oh damn, now I'm lost. Have to fight my way out.

Also some unique encounters on the asteroids. Maybe in my subterranean scenario there's a lost, secret portal that whisks me away to an asteroid with weird monsters and resources.

    • RE: GvG siege questions

Depends on visible players vs non-visible players - what I mean is with the full collision they are planning, there's only so many objects that can fit within your screen view.

I wonder if projectiles can go off screen or if they just "vanish" at the edges. I imagine projectiles, minimally, will have some sort of max range and maybe they dissipate (arrows hit the ground; magic dwindles; etc.) after some time or are stopped by a tree, rock, or other object.

    • RE: Player Run Cities and You
      • Ability for powerful spell casters to weave a mythal (like in Myth Drannor of Forgotten Realms) - would be very hard and take lots of resources but help protect against sieges
      • Warehouses for storing mass amounts of food or other resources
      • Bazaar where players can barter for goods (like the good old days of East Commonlands tunnel trading in EQ 😃)
      • back alleys and sewer system for unscrupulous people to sneak in

    • RE: Just looking around

@finland She's a crafter and over the years many games claim to "cater to crafters" (Horizons and ArcheAge come to mind) - but in the end their plans changed and she gets all grumpy 😄

It gets harder and harder for me to convince her to play any game with a PvP component because she's not really a PvPer.

I told her (btw she's my wife) that near everything in this game is crafted and she just

    • How often will eclipses happen?

Spotlight #2 mentions eclipses, time cycles, and planetary information but not how often eclipses might occur. It does say they will last a few hours and that Tartaros is smaller than Syndesia which leads me to believe they are based on lunar eclipses.

These happen, on average, roughly 2 times a year (ones detectable with the naked eye anyway). One year game time is one month real time so does this mean in-game eclipses might happen once every 2 weeks or so?

Or are they based on something completely different?

@kellewic Beastmen cannot change their good alignment to anything else while on Arboreus.

Ah, yeah. I see it in the Spotlight - that's why I try to read them a few times; and still miss things 🙂

I wonder what happens to a Good Human there since the restriction is for Beastmen only - hopefully will get that answer today.

@finland said in I want to get excited but...:

      @Vengu look at this:

@gothix said in May 5th Q&A Livestream - List Your Questions!:

You mentioned there are zones on Arboreus only good aligned players can enter. Can a good alligned player that is already in such "good zone" switch his alignment to evil inside there and then attack other players there?

It's also not possible to switch alignment as you wish like active pvp on/off. Alignment is a progress system but if you attack/loot/kill neutral/good you will be automatically flagged as evil. So you will get stomped before have the time to kill someone. They said that's insta stomp.

You can switch alignment at the resting phase. There are the karma changes which will restrict which alignment you can choose at the resting phase. I think that's why the question came up since Spotlight #6 says if you're Good "all three options are open" (Good, Neutral, Evil). Will a Good Beastmen player that is Good that switches to Evil during the resting phase be kicked from the Good only area (or die)? If so, where would they respawn?

I don't get the "forced PvP" attitude. Nobody is forcing anyone to do anything. If you don't like PvP then stick to the 90% safe spots on Arboreus and the Good towns on Syndesia. If you venture out into non-safe zones (by your own choice) and get killed; too bad. Nobody forced you to do it; you chose to do it. I don't mean to sound harsh, but as @Prometheus posted:

We are deeply convinced we can make the PvE and PvP crowds coexist in Fractured. In fact, we could call that one of the design pillars of the game itself!

If players are looking for PvE only, the choices are stick to the safe zones only or play a pure PvE game. Pure PvP players won't have access to the pure PvE areas without huge debuffs/drain of vital energies with only 30 minutes on Arboreus and a "couple hours" on Syndesia. Looking to "raid" Arboreus - as Spotlight #6 says "you won't succeed" - however, I have no doubt Demons will try.

That doesn't mean PvP players won't catch venturing PvE players outside those safe spots though - that's a choice a PvE player has to make - either accept you can only gain so much Knowledge in the safe spots, or risk it and go outside those safe spots. Outside those safe spots you are agreeing, by playing the game, to be part of the greater open PvP world.

To me, Fractured is kind of like if PoE and ArcheAge had a baby. It looks a lot like PoE, but has many characteristics of ArcheAge - open world PvP with plenty of safe spots.
