(...) a weekly video teaser, which would take nothing to do(...)

I fear you're massively underestimating the time required to create even a short weekly video content. That time's much, much better spent at developing the game right now and setting a stable, performing base to build on (in my humble opinion), as in the end, we're all here to play a good game.

      @prometheus said in Pre-alpha invites!:

It's confirmed for this month but it's not time yet, don't go crazy 😉 Also, participants will be asked not to disclose the fact they've been included in the pre-alpha, so it's pointless to ask around 😉

If I may provide an humble advice, publicly announce that pre-alpha started though after sending the first few keys.
People want to have a sense of 'progress'. Even if they are not included and won't get a key themselves, they know there is progress and things are coming along as planned.

Would you be willing to share some key parts of the feedback afterwards (like the percentage of people thinking the game's ready for beta)?

    • RE: Is there a specific date for Alpha 2 testing to start?

I'm glad that DS won't mention concrete dates till they are very confident to make them. Game development tends to come with surprise and delays that annoys people when a company misses a 'fixed' date.

@amazingazda said in gamigo Data Transfer:

@Logain Maybe you should actually read the article they provided(...)

I did read through both the complete ToS and the complete PP.
      Including:
'(...)21.6 The Commission of the European Union provides an Internet platform for online dispute resolution(...)

21.7 The Provider is not willing to participate in such an out-of-court settlement of disputes arising from contracts with our customers, not even under the VSBG (Consumer Dispute Settlement Act).'

Furthermore, the European Court decided in C-311/18, Schrems II that data transmission to the US can no longer be subject to the privacy shield.

Last, but not least, there's no way to access these '(...)EU standard contractual clauses/SCC(...)', so you'd have to go in with complete and blind trust that they are indeed covering complete European law and even if it did, the jurisdiction would be moved from European to US courts.

Thanks for asking me to clarify my statement, I should have been more specific right away.
Does this elaboration on my concerns help to understand my displeasure?

    • RE: Funding has exploded

      It's certainly a great sign!
It seems that the open stress test does pay off and manages to convince people that they would like to participate more when it comes to Fractureds development. I'd wager the real income would start with Beta 1 or maybe even Beta 2 though.

      Gamigo Server performance test? 😉

I'd say it's more a 'how many people are going to use the new spyware Glyph launcher' test.

    • RE: My opinion about stage of gamedev.

'(...)Everything what we find can make us stronger(...)'

You're not supposed to get 'stronger', that's the main reason of your confusion. You are supposed to get more possibilities. A trivial example used in most games would be fire, ice and earth attacks all cause roughly the same amount of damage, but there are enemies that are weak to one and strong against another. For example, you won't get anywhere trying to attack a FIRE shaman with fire. That's why it took you that long to kill a bear with daggers, it isn't meant to work well. Kill it with a bow or a pike and it's a matter of 20 seconds, not several minutes. There are enemies where your daggers would be incredibly useful (although you never meet them, because they are a bit further from the starting locations, which is why at character creation it clearly stated that starting out with daggers is the most difficult choice...). So, instead of getting 'better', you are getting more versatile, being able to kill enemies you couldn't before, simply because now you have access to different strategies, not because of being 'stronger'.
So, yes, there is some receptive effect to acquiring knowledge in Fractured, that can't be denied. But as an example, it took me an hour to gain the seven new skills at Goblins. If you consider that 'grind', I think you've never played some other, real grind, games. You have to be somewhat smart about what you're doing though.

    • RE: Ideas you thought your were great but turned out not to be?

I like the fact how your story highlights how much certain design pillars of a game can intervene and effect each other. I'd say that's the key point, ideas aren't bad, it's rather that they might not blend well with other design decisions in a game and could very well turn out great under other conditions 😉

    • RE: First Impressions on the new City System

@Gibbx said in First Impressions on the new City System:

@Gothix what is wrong with a 'a bunch of solo PVE players solo playing'?(...)

      Absolutely nothing!
The 'problem' is that it's a rather vocal group and that some of the (quality of life) features they 'request' for 'their playstyle' directly contradict what other groups require for their desired playstyle. The shift in design from harbors being built by and maintained by towns to independent fast travel hubs is an example of just that, it happened because of an outcry by that group, but it delves into a direction that contradicts the originally promoted design intentions.
That's why Gothix mentioned that there's other groups that want their voice to be heard as well, nothing more nothing less 😉

      @OlivePit said in Fractured Tools:

(...)so why not include them as part of the game?(...)

The game isn't finished yet. It is still in development.
It's far more crucial to finish developing the core mechanics of the game before funding runs dry.
Take a look at the initial roadmap. Take a look where we are now. Consider that the company has to keep paying salaries, but the influx of new revenue is insecure.

Yes, I know, I sound like a broken record and people hate that. But feature creep has already killed countless games.

      Very nice work @Tajger!

    • RE: Coming from CoE

      Welcome to Fractured!
I'm a CoE backer as well, so I guess I can give you a bit of a comparison there if you want.
First and most important, there is never a warranty that a game makes it to release. Even AAA studios fail more often than you might think (you're just less often to read about it). If you want to be 100% adamant sure that there's going to be a game, you'll have to wait even a few month after release to see how things are going, that's the price you'd have to pay in order to prevent a broken heart.
That said, there are a couple core differences between CoE and Fractured. There are plenty of investors for Fractured, so they didn't need to live of their Kickstarter funding. Fractured's scope is far less ambitious (and hence far more likely). Fractured has had delays and issues in development, but we're talking like 3 month behind schedule there, so I guess comparing this to CoE you'd kind of laugh. There is a game in testing right now, played by hundreds of people, yes, it's still rough, no, it is nowhere near finished, but it is miles from a single player parkour run.
There'd be more points, but that would get too long of a posting, so if you have specific questions, feel free to ask.

    • RE: Hero and Guild creation now live in The Foundation

@aries said in Hero and Guild creation now live in The Foundation:

I may have overlooked it but what types of God's are there for character selection and what are there bonuses / faults for using them

'(...)your race limits what gods you can choose, which in turn restricts your alignment options(...)'
So the gods you can choose depend on which race you selected.
      As for which gods exist:
Beastmen - Elysium, which is thought to be the source of Arboreus’ primal energy; Tyros, god of light and justice; Nelena, goddess of the wild and mother of all beastmen

Humans - Iridia, goddess of fortune and mother of all humans, and Galvanos, god of knowledge and keeper of the nine paths of magic, who always showed a great appreciation for the human persistence and fascination with progress

Demons - After the Fracture, Tartaros became the prison of the dread Babilis, left to be the only god watching over the planet and its demonic progeny.

I doubt there's any bonus or drawbacks (yet) though that sounds like a fancy idea!

      @suruq said in daily maintenance:

on albion online it’s from 12am to 1pm in france, so just during the work break. that really annoying.

There might be regional servers in Fractured, depending on the playerbase, so if that happens, you could always migrate to a server where the timeslot fits your personal schedule.
That said, I' not sure how SpatialOS handles maintenance, it might be drastically different from a normal concept.
