      @Esoba said in Durability is depleting WAY too fast + Tanks are getting screwed!:

      (...)However, I'm talking even basic copper weapons/armor(...)

      '(...)One thing you should really understand is that metal weapon and metal armors are valuable, it's not like in many other games that you've played, where you just craft 1000 plate armors each day, that's not the way it works, you can maybe craft 4 of them in one day if you're really hardcore, because they require several ingots (...)'

      That's how I understood what Prometheus stated in the video. The question would be, can you play and enjoy the game without metal weapons and armors as a player? May reply would be yes, in this test I didn't have a metal weapon for the first 10 days and I still don't have a metal armor. I didn't solo legendary creatures, but I could kill most normal beasts.
      What I would do though is add a 'tier in the middle' where you have the uttermost basic items that you can craft 'on the fly'. Some items that you can craft in your own house, which offer slight benefits and then the full metal items which require a city membership.

      (...)This will mean a healthy portion of players will be left out of the mix even with basic non-stone weapons(...)

      Wasn't that what they mentioned they wanted though? That not everybody had these weapons, which in fact makes them special. I'm not saying that's good or bad, but I thought that was the intention.

      @MorganReed said in Patch Log - v.a.2.4.1d:

      (...)I expect ports to be emergency teleports again.

      That would be odd. I wouldn't consider something like that to be part of a patch 'change', at least not without a minor note that the change is temporarily.

      Does anybody recall where Prometheus explained that he wanted harbors not to have the ability to transport carts in order to preserve local economy? I searched but couldn't spot it on the forum. Was it in a video? I am sure I recall him saying something like that, but I don't recall where (my stupid brain is getting old πŸ˜› )!

      Didn't you explicitly state that you wanted to avoid this in order to preserve local economy?

      @Esoba said in upkeep unrealistic:

      (...)it again goes back to communication(...)

      Which goes back to Prometheus being CEO, lead developer, programmer and CM, during a time when fixing bugs and delivering new content is critical. I've said it before, but I am a firm believer in preferring less communication and more work being done instead of more hot air and no work being done (coughs CoE coughs). Remember, this studio is tight on budget, they don't even have a fraction (PUN intended) of the money others do. Again, I prefer that they have one more programmer instead of one CM.
      During an Alpha NOTHING is set in stone. Everything you see is subject to survey and change, even including complete mechanics.
      During a Beta, some things (mechanics) are fixed, but numbers are still going to be heavily tweaked one way ot another.

      @Esoba said in upkeep unrealistic:

      (...)However, for a majority of players that are in smaller guilds, or just want a small group, its unmanageable(...)

      That's part of what they're (likely) looking at during Alpha as well. How many (small/large) cities are decaying, how many are staying active. How fast are people rushing through content (e.g. get all enchanted best equipment, all PoI unlocked, all monster knowledge gained...)? How does player activity suffer over time during the test?

      I'm glad they are starting with 'high values' on city upkeep, because if they realize it has to be lower, that gets you good player feedback. But if they start too low and have to increase, that gets you plenty of 'bitching'.

      @LordRellik said in Concern regarding lack of communication and transparency:

      (...)I think the principle that you shouldn’t make deadlines you can’t meet still applies(...)

      You're right and wrong at the same time.
      You are right as in that developers (and the people representing them to the outside) need to be very cautious when predicting timeframes. That is a learning process as well, as Prometheus just experienced.
      You are wrong though, because with software development (and that includes games), there is never a guarantee that you're going to manage and release something. You'd have to announce that there has been updates after the first 24 hours of an update, because first, unpredictable complications can delay producing the update, unforeseen configurations can cause problems while patching the server and even then, logical errors and things that slipped through your A/B and QA testing can force you into a hotfix.

      Btw. in regards to that other project, I think that that CEO suffered from the complete opposite problem. Had he spent his time developing a solid strategy and plan instead of hanging out in discord discussing things with people, he would have realized that big data analysis is normally not the strong side of TypeScript (and neither that of C#) before writing code, before running into delays and issues. He'd have written a simple CUDA program from day one, ran it on a GTX 1080 TI in their own space rather than 'renting 72 cores' and save the team a lot of trouble and time.

      @Hawkshield said in Concern regarding lack of communication and transparency:

      (...)Devs tend to be those people/freinds taht never seem to get back to you when you text then(...)

      They are few, you are many. Have you ever considered how many people are 'texting' them? I've been in a similar misery and I can assure you that yes, it sometimes only takes a bit of time, but often it takes far longer than anticipated to respond properly. While more and more people are trying to get your attention and more and more work is waiting unattended.

      I understand that you have been burnt @LordRellik, I had backed that project as well (and unlike most others I was fully aware how unlikely it was to work out and have been a vocal 'realist', which was being called a troll and hater back there). Nobody is expecting you to be a 'fanboy' and blindly defend everything, but be careful not to swing the pendulum to the other extreme either. 10 days is still 'several days' to most of us that are realistic with game development. Consider that you can already test a 'working' multiplayer environment in this project, with less than a tenth of the funding, less than half the time in and a far more realistic approach than that other project (which would have been possible, but that's a different story).

      @bawz said in Mining Minerals/Nodes:

      (...)if no one wants to trade with me what i'm supposed to do?(...)

      There are three possible options.
      First you can join a town (or claim one together with others).
      Second, you can walk across the map and search the markets for what you want to purchase, or ask if somebody would be willing to trade in the global chat.
      Third, it's entirely possible to keep using your 'primitive weapon'.

      I am well aware that all three options come with drawbacks, but that's intended. There's no 'this suits everybody' or 'this is best' solution. I am still using my 'primitive weapon', despite being in a town and having mined hundreds of ore deposits, simply because it is more beneficial for the town that way πŸ˜‰

      @bawz said in Mining Minerals/Nodes:

      (...) 5 guilds will controls the mineral nodes, and then what?(...)

      These 5 guilds are going to have one hell of a hard time doing that. If they can pull that off, I'd say Kudos to them, well deserved! This is going to be far, far less trivial than in other games. Remember that there's already more than 50 mines in the game and it's an Alpha. You're going to have two more planets and various asteroids. And your town is going to need food and gold and the mines are spread across the map. That's likely a 24/7 job for no less than a thousand people trying to do that.

      I think they're really trying to heavily push the inter settlement trade(...)

      Likely not just that, but town sieges as well. Remember that in the future, towns are supposed to compete over these resource nodes. If you can 'simply bypass' that, a lot of 'PvP oriented' cities certainly wouldn't be happy.

    • RE: Idea for Marketplaces

      That's a funny idea! As far as I recall there is going to be a patch introducing the option to check the price of goods in different markets globally though in this Alpha. I'm not sure how much the developers would be willing to fiddle with that afterwards.

    • RE: Town Guards and NPC relations

      I like both ideas and if I'm not hallucinating, I think I'm recalling at least town guards are already planned. I'm entirely unsure on the relation between creatures though and more specifically, AI in general. I wonder how taxing AI is for SpatialOS, since I guess that is one of the determining factors there.
