      That's kind of a very, very unfair comparison, given that both attempts are drastically different. Not that I'd want to 'defend' the development that went wrong, but that's somewhat comparing apples and oranges.

      There are plenty of ways for spells to interact other then summoning elemental objects on the map.

      I'd argue that the whole concept of horizontal progression versus vertical progression is a rather massive impact on gameplay by itself. And situational advantages are basically the main incentive behind horizontal progression (both character and equipment wise), since this allows best adaption and hence highest performance on each specific environment.

      I'm not convinced that's going to be possible. And I'm not even sure if that would be a good design decision for a truly multiplayer game. How long would the water persist, where can it be summoned, how does it interact with other players and the environment. That's less trivial than what first meets the eye when there's other players, property and different already existing environmental conditions are involved.

      While I opted for more Design Spotlights in the survey, it's a difficult one to balance. Highest priority would always have to be on game development and it's all too easy to get lost on 'talking' about the game, so maybe just a 'bit more', but not much? πŸ˜‰

      We know that we're supposed to be able to get 'basic gear' ready within less than a minute, actually, you kind of start your adventure with basic gear from the tutorial. I wouldn't consider that 'grinding' just yet. From there on, you can work your way up with skill. Actually, you don't even really need equipment to finish off a 'non PvP savvy player'.

      That'd depend if he can get net positive on looting from players and trading that loot for what he'd want for himself, wouldn't it?

      You could argue that, unless he really only wants to sit around, waiting for opponents, he'd wander around anyway and hence the exploration aspect would come 'natural'.

      That's at least the goal. If that's going to be the case, nobody knows until the game is finished and supposedly balanced. It's a tricky goal, but one worth pursuing for developers I'd say.

      I would like such kind of feature, even i know there will be masses on people who would complain about longer producing times. πŸ˜‰

      You'd have to start with a different food resource for the tutorial in that case though. You want something that is 'decent', not much weight, can be crafted instantly, and is processed in a chain of ingredients, in order to convey the base system. But forcing people to wait a couple hours in the tutorial is not going to be a good start.
