I wouldn't exactly call the change a 'minor alternation', but that's subjective and personal preference. That said, yes, developers should and have to make minor adjustment every now and then for various different reason. They have to be careful about it though, people pledged for a specific reason. And if there's too many 'alternations', the people that originally funded your game likely are going to be unhappy because it is no longer what they wanted to fund and play.
Hence why, even if it goes against what I personally want in a game, I'd rather they stick to what they advertised the game to be.

While personally I prefer choices that matter and hence voted Option A, I'm with @Jetah, the game should become what was announced in the Kickstarter and that's more along the lines of Option B. Select a target audience and stick with it during the course of development, otherwise, you're going to make nobody happy but a lot of people unhappy.

As @Mudz mentioned it at least adds a minimum amount of challenge, but even if you fail at recovering your items, unless you have a fully enchanted set, it should take less than 10 minutes to simply craft the same items again? You likely would even have a replacement set ready in your local bank account, as it is currently rather easy to craft the same set twice or thrice instead of once (ingredients are rather easy to gather).

As far as I recall, during one of the last Q&As Prometheus mentioned that we'd get different modes of interaction, so that might help quite a bit as well and is possibly the time when they are going to really revisit work on the interface.

I hope that whatever they decide that there's some form of 'disadvantage' to mounts, otherwise they simply become a 'feature to unlock' and must have, which would kind of be sad. In that case I'd have preferred a smaller world with no mounts instead.

Which, given how much Oxfurd seems to dislike Discord, has me wonder why they aren't setting up a Jitsi/Jibri server. Stable video and audio streaming (Open Source, so if there's issues they could easily commit a fix) with an automatic youtube stream recording.
