      While a single game in a MOBA has progression, non of that persists to the next match (other than your skill gain as a player).
      I was referring to the claim of 'lack of long term profession as a goal of keeping player playing a game'.

      League of Legends (LoL) would be another example that has been on the market for years on end and knows no vertical progression. Actually, the developers stated that they want Fractured to be MOBA influenced (early on).

      I think the point was that while there is a 'best' for a specific build, opponent and environment, the 'best build' can drastically change from character to character from opponent to opponent and from environment to environment and at one point there are so many 'best builds' that it's tricky to keep track 😉

      (Example being that your coat of heat might protect you against the effects of cold in the snow while fighting an ice elemental, it would be stupid in the desert fighting a dragon)

      The problem is not in finding the formula, the problem is that the formula is very likely going to change drastically. There's plenty of features that are going to influence gameplay (and the algorithm) that aren't implemented yet and thus programmers use a simple placeholder instead until these features exist.

      Trying to min max the game now is completely moot. It's about getting the features working for the developers right now, not balancing them, or even setting proper values.

      SpatialOS is a SaaS, which means you are not 'renting a server', you are 'paying for resources'.
      Actually, unless they managed to score a special deal, you simply look it up at Improbable. 'Prices are shown on a “per hour” basis for simplicity, but you will be invoiced a prorated amount based on the duration you use the template for, to the nearest minute (rounded up). The duration is measured as the difference between when the deployment is created and when it is terminated. The minimum duration is 10 minutes'

      And no, there is no special discount for using the service longer (since running a 10 minute test server would be somewhat pointless).

      Don't get me wrong, I'm not opposed to them running the service 24/7, I just wanted to point out that it requires money. There's certainly some gain in there, but I'm not sure on the retention rate, do you happen to have statistics?

      And the available funding. Hosting the game is going to cost money, that's something people often forget about. I do hope that they can manage and afford 24/7, but I wouldn't be shocked if not.

      It's a matter of target audience. The more 'QoL'-'fast consuming content, no effort' audience is going to hate the feature, so if that's the people the game aims for, it's a bad design decision. The more 'immersion'-'let me seat and bleed for my achievements' audience is going to love it. If that's the people you're aiming for, it's a good design decision.

      I doubt that you could ever prevent spam, in a MMO where your message can be seen by a large group of people, regardless on the flavor text and how you set up channels.

      It's not completely unrealistic, another indie game currently in development is aiming to do exactly that. I doubt Fractured is going to, but I wanted to point out that it's far from unrealistic.
