Didn't you intend to provide spotlights on houses / towns / sieges and the like originally, since that were hot topics? Has that plan changed?

(...)He loves the game so much that I can’t imagine him giving up on it, no matter how long it takes(...)

It's not his love and dedication that people worry about. Most unfortunately, everybody needs to pay for a living and if funds for the project run dry (you can not 'milk' a community forever), there's little alternative. That's why I wish they would start to put a foot down and seriously focus on nothing else but work on pushing out VoxElyria / Kingdoms of Elyria. That would convince a few more people to contribute on the project financially and thus drastically increase the chance for the game to exist.

I'm backer number 123 and currently went with early bird Recruit (20 €), but consider going up early bird Patron (90 €). I simply haven't decided yet.

(...)You have to argue with people that don't see above example as pay to win... it's pointless.

I'd say we should refrain from arguing this point in this thread, since it would be off topic (the perception of pay to win or not on a successful Kickstarter is on topic, since it concerns the issue at hand, but the specific example would be off topic). If you want to continue the conversation, I'm more than happy to do so in a private chat.

(...) Chronicles of Elyria is P2W game(...)

That's an interesting perception. I wonder how many of the people that pledged for CoE would have fallen for that wrong idea (yes, you could purchase legendary items to an extent, but they aren't better than normal common items and yes, you can legally ask for taxes, but you'd have to collect them and enforce it, just like you could in any other game). If CoE is pay to win, so would Fractured with governing towns, free carpenters, free VIP, free cart/mule,...?

@vicious said in Haven't pledged? Want to upgrade, but not sure yet? Tell us why!:

      (...)Jeromie Walsh (...) Eddie Smith(...)

I'm well aware of the vita for Jeremy Walsh and his team. But non of that 'attracted any following' to the Kickstarter (such as would Richard Garriot), which was your argument.
If you meant to express and argue that people think Dynamight Studios lacks in expertise, they might have had to highlight their previous work on Linkrealms? Would that have helped?

@vicious said in Haven't pledged? Want to upgrade, but not sure yet? Tell us why!:

(...)Elyria is just another mmo the market not want , not need , doomed to fail : is going to release get maybe even a million sell and then drop pop by 80-90% in first 6 months, becouse is not really new(...)

I think you might want to read up on the project again. It's not even the genre you mention (CoE is a MEOW, not a MMORPG). There's many cogs in that cogwheel working together. Take offline characters as an example, I doubt that you could name a single game with persistent programmable offline characters (there is Screeps, but that's a strategy/resource management game). And that is but a basic example, I could go on with that list.

That said, are we allowed to see your vita (and even better your Linkedin account) on game design, since you mention doing that professionally?

@logain all names you made are huge triple AAA(...)

I'm going to ignore the flame-baiting and swearing and simply respond to facts. If you read through the list of names I provided (it's just three, so not too much work there), you're going to find that one of the names (Chronicles of Elyria) is produced by people who do not have such a background.
How does that work with your statement and analysis?

(...)I know there will be many that will just get a refund once they experience alpha for a little bit.

You can not get a refund for that on Kickstarter, since the payment would have been processed month ago (alpha starts in ~4 month after the KS ends).

(...)It is indeed possible we got the price point for Alpha wrong (...) Can't go back in time to change that though, so we need to get this Kickstarter to the end with what we have!(...)

As far as I'm aware you can not edit the pledge tiers, but you can use 'Add-ons'. As an example, Underworld Ascendant has done just that. I don't think you should go that route, but if you wanted to follow the advice offered in this thread, it seems like you can provide Alpha/Beta access 'à la carte' (there are even automated solutions to that like Backerkit).

@vicious said in Haven't pledged? Want to upgrade, but not sure yet? Tell us why!:

(...) they look only for advantage from early access, so alpha access, gold, premium account. So a bid for a relative cheap amount like 30$ get this people on board, granting access cost you nothing but is one of most appealing factor(...)

Could you provide examples to these claims? Because I can easily toss in a couple names with high priced pledge tiers for early access that succeeded to rake in more than a million dollar (Crowfall, Chronicles of Elyria, Shroud of the Avatar,...).

If one race/alignment opens a stargate on one planet leading to another, can others use this as well and are they bidirectional? (E.g. evil human opens stargate to Tartaros, can good Beastman use that to go from Syndesia to Tartaros as well and can Demons use that to go from Tartaros to Syndesia)

    • RE: Haven't pledged? Want to upgrade, but not sure yet? Tell us why!

I was under a wrong assumption when you announced going for Kickstarter. I thought (yes, I know what they say about assuming something :p) you'd need the money to actually develop the project, but as you stated you're financially stable, I would have advised to delay deploying the Kickstarter to far after pre-alpha and to as late into the project as you can push it.

That said, I've currently backed at early bird Recruit (20€, backer #123), because I am (unlike I first thought when reading your early spotlights) not your target audience and simply want to support your project for your great spirit and dedication. It's fine that I'm not your target audience and you shouldn't change that this late into development, so what I'm going to explain is a moot point, but it won't hurt if I go into detail on it either.

I was looking for a less 'limited' experience where players can moderate the community by themselves (all actions are possible, but have consequences that matter). An example of this would be Chronicles of Elyria, where I backed $175 (early bird Ursaphant rider) and would have gone higher if they had your 'working spirit' (I wish I could blend the two projects together 😉 ). I mention that project specifically, since I'm not sure the common analysis in this thread is entirely correct (the company behind that game is a fresh start, no name - had nothing to show and yet managed to get past $1.3 million with high cost tiers [$350, $175, $90, $50 for Alpha 1, Alpha 2, Beta 1, Beta 2 and $25 for the base game]).

I love that you're trying to make honest (and reasonable, based on your current progress) predictions about your game development schedule and your community interaction and willingness to address questions. However, I'm trying to 'vote with my money' (since other companies are following these kind of Kickstarters closely and are adjusting their projects accordingly), so I'll have to go with projects that are targeted at my desires in a direct competition.

Do people have access to pre-paid credit cards in EU side of the world?

Depends on the country. In some (most?) yes, but they aren't commonly used (I don't understand why, I love mine, but hey).

(...)simply referring to the fact that having better in game skills does not automatically give you the win(...) is this total played time(...)

I read this comment as 'the main difference in combat power is going to be from a situational point', such as being able to counter your enemy, while your enemy can't counter you. That would go hand in hand with the life Q&A answer of one build being able to dominate another build.
And it is far beneficial to 'explore' compared to grind from a meta-gaming best use per time ratio, until you have the basic 50 talent points done.
