    • This game is a potential PVE gold mine

I looked a long, long time for a new game that felt PVE friendly after getting bored with D3:ROS. Every single game coming out with a PVE component seemed to fall into one of the following groups:

      • Yet Another Theme Park
      • A Brad McQuaid inspired "You Need a 20-Man Group to go Pick Flowers"
      • Another ARPG
      • Yeah, We've got PVE in our game. You'll have to put up with being attacked constantly in our OWPVP environment.

I was overjoyed to find Fractured since I'll FINALLY have a PVE experience in a completely different type of game...a PVE experience that won't involve being constantly attacked while I'm trying to explore and gather. I am positive that I'm not the only one out there that has been dying to find a good PVE experience in a game that isn't just a clone. One in which it's easy to PVP by going to other worlds, but in which PVP is completely my choice.

      Let's face it:

      • Syndesia will be competing with Ashes of Creation for players
      • Tartaros will be competing with Crowfall for players
      • Arboreus will be competing with ...... no one.

Unless the new Diablo projects are something completely different than anyone is expecting, Fractured will be the only MMO releasing in the next few years that is both completely different and has a dedicated PVE environment.

I hope the word gets out. I really expect a LOT of completely bored PVE players to come out of the woodwork if it does.

I'm not sure why this didn't get posted on the forums, but Prometheus was in the Discord channel earlier, and let us know that the Funding Tracker with the stretch goals is live. It's found here.

    • Suggestion - herb gardens and a spice trade

Since eating is mandatory in this game, one of the things that I have been thinking about is having herb gardens and a spice trade in this game. Especially effective high level cooking recipes could require herbs and spices, making them particularly desirable.

Herb definition - any plant with leaves, seeds, or flowers used for flavoring, food, medicine, or perfume.

Spice definition - an aromatic or pungent vegetable substance used to flavor food, e.g., cloves, pepper, or mace.

Herb Gardens – One of the things that I have always found very weird in MMO’s is that they have you gather herbs in the wild instead of planting herb gardens. LOTRO did this for example, and then let you farm on your private land, which seems completely backwards to me.

If herb gardens were included in Fractured, I would expect them to be on people’s private lots. One interesting thing to include would be “drying racks” which could be built in the gardens. Fresh herbs could be used after picking, but would decay rapidly. If dried on the drying racks, the dried herbs would last much longer.

Spices – One of the biggest inter-world trading materials could be spices, just as the spice trade was one of the most important trading routes in historical civilizations.
Spices would be gathered in the wild. Some examples could be:

      1. Arboreus – something like cinnamon or cassia, which are made from tree bark, would be logically found on Arboreus.
      2. Syndesia – something like cardamom or black pepper, which are made from seeds, might be good for Syndesia.
      3. Tartaros – either extend the definition of “spice” to include non-plant based seasonings, such as powdered egg shells, or have hardy plants whose roots dig deep to survive. Spices are sometimes made of roots, like ginger or turmeric.

Would anyone else be interested in anything like herb gardens or a spice trade?

    • RE: This game is a potential PVE gold mine

@specter said in This game is a potential PVE gold mine:

@gothix Back in February, a bunch of PvP players did ask for the safe zones to be removed and went on a rather harsh crusade against the PvE players on this forum. This led to various heated debates and fights and eventually to the release of the PvP, alignment and crime spotlight to calm everyone down. One or more of those threads have since been removed by the users who made them, so that's why you can't find a trace of them anymore. I suspect this is why some PvE players on this forum are still on edge. 😉

Thank you, @Specter. That exchange is exactly what prompted me to make this thread. When I stumbled upon this game, one of the first things I found was the Spotlight #6 - PVP, ALIGNMENT & CRIME. As soon as I read that, I knew that I was going to back this game with as much as I could afford. Finally, FINALLY a dev team that understood that PVE players just want to pursue their goals and be left alone.

Later, I stumbled on the threads that you are talking about....pages and pages of PVP players going on and on with detailed plans about how they were going to bring demon hordes to Arboreus and go on a mad slaughter campaign. I knew after reading the Spotlight that they were wrong, and even discovered that @Prometheus had done a Q&A where he basically laughed in their faces and told them point blank that they would not be allowed to go on a murderous rampage on Arboreus.

The thing that was the most aggravating about that whole incident was that the PVP players had TWO worlds for PVP, and yet the only PVP threads at the time were ones about disrupting the play of the PVE'ers. That being said, the reaction of the devs to those threads caused me to be a firm supporter of this game.

And for the record, I don't care at all that Syndesia and Tartarus are PVP. I fully understand that if I bring merchant goods to Syndesia to trade, that I'll have to watch my back. I don't mind that. I just want to be left alone when I'm doing PVE activities on Arboreus.

    • RE: Elusive - Casual Beastman Guild

Hey Agracore, I see you opened a discussion about food in General. I've been meaning to ask about food production in our guild.

I've never liked the mechanics of eating in games, but after seeing how worthless cooking was in Wow and LOTRO, I'm eager to see how this turns out. I'd certainly like to throw my hat into the ring and offer to be the towns chef in Alpha 1.

If the town provides the raw ingredients for me, I'd like to create foods and store them in warehouse free of charge, especially non-perishables for people's journeys. If I end up buying the raw ingredients, I'l work with the guild to sell them at market for something reasonable.

I've been in guilds (mostly small friends and family) where everything was simply shared. I've also been in guilds where everyone sold to each other at reasonable prices. I'm certainly willing to go either way. Whatever Agracore/the guild wants.

      Hi Virtute!

I'm with you. I'm sick to death of theme park MMO's and this is the first sandbox I've located that takes PVE gameplay seriously. The isometric view is just icing on the cake since I like ARPG's.

    • RE: Now think Clearly Here

Seriously, @Sparky, take some time to read the spotlights...especially Spotlight #6. You are setting yourself up for massive disappointment.

Here are some highlights from that Spotlight:

If you flag yourself as Good, you are not allowed to perform hostile actions against any other Good or Neutral player. There are several ways this restriction is applied – some common cases being:

      • You can’t use basic attacks and targeted spells against Good or Neutral players.

      • Your AOE abilities cause no damage or negative side effects to Good or Neutral players.

      • You can’t loot the corpse of a dead Good or Neutral player.

      • Giving the killing blow to a knocked-out Good or Neutral player is not possible.

      • You can’t take possession of bounty that doesn’t belong to you.
        '--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Arboreus is designed to be the ideal home of PvE lovers. It features large areas accessible only by Beastmen and characters with Good alignment, and a great degree of protection from hostile PvP in the rest of the world. How great is such protection? Let’s go through that together.

First and foremost, travelling to Arboreus is no small feat for a Human or Demon character. It requires good planning and is generally expected to be a group effort. Moreover, and more importantly, things get exponentially more difficult for players of Neutral and Evil alignment, who not only have to work harder to gain access to the planet, but also find it harder to stay.
      '--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If your character has an Evil alignment and you manage to enter Arboreus, well, now you’re in trouble! The planet itself, pervaded by the primal energy of Elysium, immediately starts fighting to repel you. You become heavily debuffed, and normally pacific creatures turn aggressive against you, seeking you out to rip you apart. Even worse, you are only allowed to stay on Arboreus for half an hour at once, and you are quickly drained of all vital energies if you step into a Good-only area. (NOTE: in one of the Q & A's, Prometheus said "quickly" means several seconds).

The devs are dead serious about Arboreus remaining a place for PVE'ers.

    • RE: Provisioning and Brewing

Agracore, it's quite providential that you posted this, because I've been meaning to open a discussion in the guild thread about this for Alpha 1.

First, I hope that one of the buildings in town is some sort of communal oven. Just as you need a blacksmith to do advanced metalworking, I hope that you will need at least a communal oven to make the higher level foods.

Also, herbs and spices are very important to cooking. I'd love to see:

      • Herb gardens for your personal residence, with various herbs that can be picked and dried, then stored for the guild chef or sold at the market.

      • Spice Trade - Throughout history, the spice trade has been a major type of international trade. I think it would be very cool if each world had their own spice production and the "spice trade" was a big reason to trade among the races.

@lovechildbell It would have been fine if it had been announced somewhere else. Instead, they teased new content to a group of PC/console players who have been starving for content, got them to pay a huge amount of money to see the announcement in person, then sprung the news that it was mobile only.

They had published a warning that made it pretty obvious that they weren't announcing D4. In that same announcement, they should have made clear that they weren't making any announcements about new PC content.

Those particular "peace loving" beast-kin players, that always complain all the time how they don't want to be disturbed while grinding, will be THE FIRST ONES to go annoy demons who come to gather a few resources on Arboreus with limited grinding time frame available.

Not me. If a demon wants to come to Arboreus and pick flowers or whatever, I'm fine with that. Heck, if he doesn't attack me, I'll probably help him find whatever he wants. It's not like it won't grow back.

@lovechildbell My biggest problem was that they teased new content, put the Diablo news in the premiere spot, then announced a mobile game to people who had spent hundreds (perhaps thousands with travel and hotel). They knew that hardcore PC players wouldn't be interested in it. It's just classic Blizzard bait and switch, which I thought that they had gotten better at.

@target I reached the same conclusion that you did. As a PVE player in this game, I'm looking forward to the town management and development, crafting and exploring. If I want raids and dungeons, I can always go to <fill in any themepark MMO here>. Of course, there will be the labyrinth in endgame, but I'm really not expecting a lot, if any, of open world dungeons and raids in this game.

PVP plundering. I think I should have said "sieges", not "raiding". Sorry for the confusion.

So I've been reading up on this the last few days with my jaw hanging open. The marketing during this fiasco was utterly the most tone-deaf I've seen outside of politics. It wouldn't surprise me if Marketing 101 classes aren't studying this one for years.

    • RE: 4th planet of angelics: harsh PVE, banned PVP.

@Mae So, I'm not sure if all your questions have been answered, but I am also almost exclusively a PVE player and I feel quite comfortable about Arboreus. Originally, about 30-50% of Arboreus was going to be Good-only, but lately Specter has been saying that "most" of Arboreus will be Good-only. Prometheus explained in one Q&A that any non-Good player who gets into the Good-only area has only a few seconds to get out before they die.

Since Good players cannot be hostile to other Good players, this means that the Good-only area is completely PVP free.

In the other areas where Neutral and Evil characters can survive, the planet itself will still attack any Evil characters, as well any Neutral characters who attack Good players. I think that this means that Evil and "criminal" Neutral characters will be attacked by any living thing that they run across. At one point, Prometheus said point-blank that non-Good characters should just have a short list of PVE objectives that they want to get done on Arboreus, because they won't be able to just go on a killing spree.

That being said, Good players can still be attacked in non-Good areas. Anyone who attacks them will already be debuffed, I think, but there is an outside chance that Good players can be killed. However, it sounds like just getting away will be a definite option, unless you want to stay and fight.

One other interesting thing is that Prometheus has said that raiding will only occur on the 2 PVP planets. So that sounded to me like true raids won't be possible even in the non-Good areas on Arboreus.
