    • RE: This game is a potential PVE gold mine

Thanks everyone for weighing in! Obviously I disagree with a lot of the analysis here, but that's what discussions are for. ๐Ÿ™‚ I'm not sure that I always understand the viewpoint of everyone here, but there's a few points that people are making that I'd like to address.

First, a few people seem to have the assumption that PVE'ers are looking mostly for dev created content, as well as raids and dungeons. I couldn't disagree more. I know that I am utterly sick of dev created content, and am REALLY looking forward to exploring, crafting, etc. in a world where I'm not on rails. I've been wanting to play a sandbox for a long time, but every single developer except this one apparently thinks that only PVP'ers want a sandbox. I LOATHE being attacked and interrupted when I'm trying to accomplish something in game, so I've simply avoided those game.

@TheRippyOne I'm not sure what you mean by "it would become safer to denude your town of defenders to go reave someone else's place for a bit." If you're in the safe zone in Arboreus, you won't need defenders because no one can attack. And you can't raid or siege on Arboreus at all. Sieges don't exist at all on Arboreus, and no one can raid you in the safe zone. Did you mean go off-world to siege or raid? I guess you could do that to an evil town in Syndesia, but I doubt many Beastmen will be doing that.

@Gothix I think you are 100% correct. In fact, if I found a demon trying to madly gather resources on Arboreus, I'd gladly show him/her where they were. Stuff is going to be abundant on Arboreus, so why not?

@Target The stuff you find boring, I love to do. ๐Ÿ™‚ I doubt I'm the only one. Have you checked out the popularity of games like Stardew Valley? The thing that will make it interesting is town and guild interactions and player-made content, such as events and celebrations. Granted, if there is no way to make your town have it's own unique "flavor", then it might get boring after a while.

    • RE: Canโ€™t wait for the fractured store

I'm really, really trying not to be impatient, but I also really, really want the store, the Foundation updated quests and the Overview on Crafting blog. Oh well, it will be here eventually.

    • RE: This game is a potential PVE gold mine

Thanks for replying again, Mewmew. Sounds like you really get it and are a kindred soul here. I want exactly what you are describing - a mostly PVE experience where I can do my PVE goals without being hassled. And as far as PVP goes, I actually think that helping towns defend against demon invasions on Syndesia sounds like fun. I just want the ability to decide when and where I do PVP.

We can't be the only 2 who want this. I have friends who talk about the original SWG to this day. They all loved it and miss the PVE sandbox and town management from that game. I'm sure that there are lots of other people out there who want mostly/only PVE who are also as sick of theme parks as we are. Hopefully, Dynamight finds the best way to connect with those people.

    • RE: FibS's big dumb semi-curated NOT official "I want this kind of Beastman!" topic

So, this might be in the far future, but if they ever put in islands on the map, it would be very cool to have a "selkie" beastman that could turn into a seal, and be the only one that could make their way to the islands. The islands might have harvestables found nowhere else, so they would have a monopoly on those.

That would be the good thing. The bad thing would be that selkies would have no other advantages, so they would be the worst beastman in battle. In other words, this race would be for someone who primarily wants to spend their time exploring and gathering, and participates in battle (both PVE and PVP) as little as possible.

Thanks for the kind words, Dragomok. Those were exactly my thoughts. The devs have said that they want our choices to matter, right from the time that we choose our race. I think it would be great if some of the choices were something other than "This is how you do combat".

@prometheus Any chance that our Kickstarter accounts will be linked at the same time? And/or the cash shop?

    • RE: Importance of attributes triggering repetition?

@therippyone The more I think about it, the more I wish that they would let you choose your background first to establish your basic skills, then give you a choice between a pre-built stat allocation based on your background or choosing your stats yourself. If you hadn't researched the game much, you would probably opt for the pre-built stats. If you had a specific build in mind, you would opt for choosing them yourself.

I think that that would probably keep everyone happy.

In addition, they should give respecs any time that they do MAJOR balancing to the point of borking certain builds.

    • RE: Suggestion - herb gardens and a spice trade

Oh man, I am LOVING these ideas!

@kellewic and @Ladyrowan I had also thought that you would have to find them in the wild first. However, I didn't want to throw out too many specific ideas because I wanted to see what people thought.

@kellewic I LOVE the idea of using them in alchemy/poison making. I hadn't even thought of that. Thanks for bringing it up!

@Ladyrowan I think it would have diminishing returns, especially on your own planet, but that might be a good reason to get it to the other planets' markets. Also, how about plants that can be used for either medicine or poison? Perhaps the most effective medicines' ingredients might be found in the most effective poisons, because the poison maker "corrupts" the life force in the plant.

@TheRippyOne I was thinking along the same lines, just not as detailed as you have there. The thing is, we HAVE to eat, so food with buffs will be more desirable than in other games. In LOTRO, for example, I would carry food around and always forget to use it, because the buff just wasn't that great or necessary. If herbs and spices add buffs in this game, they will be desirable because we have to eat food anyway.

As far as where stuff is located, I was thinking more along the lines of "Trees in Arboreus", "Other plants in Syndesia", (what plants if any in Tartaros?) when I made my suggestions. I LOVE your mention of salt. I hadn't even thought of that. Actually spices from Tartaros might need to be more along the lines of "powdered egg shells from a dangerous predatory bird", "ground bonemeal from a large, dangerous animal", etc. The devs have said that PVE will be tough and dangerous on Tartaros and that would fit right in.

@wolfkomodo46 Man, I LOVE those ideas! As I said earlier, how about the best poisons containing corrupted life force of plants from Arboreus? Gathering those plants would definitely provide one of the limited PVE goals that the devs want demons to have on Arboreus. Also, I think using poisons on blades should give you negative karma, so only evil characters and good/neutral characters wanting negative karma would use them.

    • RE: What can we learn from other similar pojects?

      Here's my take:

      • Make sure that the basics are solid before building anything else

      • decide what the core mechanics of the game will be and make sure that they integrate well

      • listen to the community, but don't change your core vision

    • RE: Power gap between r1 and r3 spells is too big (POLL)

As a PVE player, I'm sure a lot of people would expect me to want the extra damage. After all, extra damage means I can kill the wildlife much faster, right?

Nope. I'm thrilled at this decision. I'm so tired of Themeparks that require you to get ever increasing firepower to go from killing "juvenile bears" to "sickly bears" to "mama bears" and finally to the big boss "daddy bear". I am soooo looking forward to horizontal progression, and now it appears that as I do skill tasks I get different versions of the skill so I can decide which version fits my play style best. Yeah!

    • RE: Enhanced Character Creation

@gothix said in Enhanced Character Creation:

Fractured should, imho, have own imagined holidays, and not copy Earth holidays. Fractured world is reality of it's own, so why not it's own holiday system that could be immersed together with the lore and game play, partly through the whole year (preparations for holidays in some way).

I not only totally agree, I hope we can go farther and have towns develop their own schedules and holiday events, which they could use to get visitors (aka buyers in their marketplaces).

The devs want us to spend time in our towns, and I think competitive tavern mini-games would help that happen, especially on the PVE side where you don't get much competition at all. The devs could even run community contests to come up with unique ideas for card games, board games, etc. that they would then create.

    • RE: 4th planet of angelics: harsh PVE, banned PVP.

@Mae So, I'm not sure if all your questions have been answered, but I am also almost exclusively a PVE player and I feel quite comfortable about Arboreus. Originally, about 30-50% of Arboreus was going to be Good-only, but lately Specter has been saying that "most" of Arboreus will be Good-only. Prometheus explained in one Q&A that any non-Good player who gets into the Good-only area has only a few seconds to get out before they die.

Since Good players cannot be hostile to other Good players, this means that the Good-only area is completely PVP free.

In the other areas where Neutral and Evil characters can survive, the planet itself will still attack any Evil characters, as well any Neutral characters who attack Good players. I think that this means that Evil and "criminal" Neutral characters will be attacked by any living thing that they run across. At one point, Prometheus said point-blank that non-Good characters should just have a short list of PVE objectives that they want to get done on Arboreus, because they won't be able to just go on a killing spree.

That being said, Good players can still be attacked in non-Good areas. Anyone who attacks them will already be debuffed, I think, but there is an outside chance that Good players can be killed. However, it sounds like just getting away will be a definite option, unless you want to stay and fight.

One other interesting thing is that Prometheus has said that raiding will only occur on the 2 PVP planets. So that sounded to me like true raids won't be possible even in the non-Good areas on Arboreus.
