    • What We Know About Weapons

      This will be a short summary of everything we currently know about the weapon system that isn't already included in Vengu's compilation thread, just to make it more convenient for new people who don't want to crawl through several articles and forum threads for basic information.

      What we know so far:

      • Confirmed weapon types: unarmed, short sword, great sword, spear, crossbow, bow. More are planned. ->
      • Other weapons that have been mentioned: blunt weapons, polearms, shields, claws, daggers. ->
      • Weapons can be enchanted, either temporarily or permanently, using abilities from the school of Enchanting. ->
      • It is possible to dual wield weapons. ->
      • Archers can choose between different types of arrows, which they can craft. ->
      • Weapons aren't restricted, all races can craft and use all weapons (except for human-exclusive technologies). -> ->
      • Weapons that you didn't personally craft or buy have to be identified before they can be used to their full potential. ->
      • Weapon parameters currently include: damage, speed, range, area of effect (shape and size), accuracy, mobility. ->
      • Humans will be able to use cannons in sieges. They will be phallic. ->

      They're not meant to be wallpapers, but there's some nice art around here that you could use.

      They're not full HD, but they still look pretty nice even when they're zoomed in.

    • RE: Suggestion: Demon Bone Armor/Weapon

      It would be interesting if you needed very low karma to craft these, and having them equipped would slowly lower your karma each day. It makes sense for "good" players to avoid using gear that's made out of people, after all.

      @finland said in suggestion: Demon Bone Armor/Weapon:

      Something restricted to Demons only.. You shoud suggest something for each race ;). Why not giving this option to all races?

      It makes sense to give this to demons, since it fits their culture. Humans already have exclusive steam technology, and beastmen probably wouldn't really approve of using gear made out of your enemies. Wooden weapons might be an interesting exclusive for beastmen, since those were actually used in real life by some cultures. It's pretty fascinating stuff, I'd recommend

      to anyone who wants to know more.

      I'd say this bone gear (and possibly the wooden gear, while we're on the topic) shouldn't be strictly exclusive though, not like human technologies are. I'd make it so that the recipes only drop on Tartaros (and Arboreus for the wooden stuff), but any crafter with the recipe can make them.

      Showing people killed by mouseovering the armor pieces is a bad idea. You could add it as an extra description while inspecting each piece.

      Why is it a bad idea?

    • RE: Question about being a game tester

      I'm not 100% sure, but if I remember correctly, the procedural generation is just a tool the devs use and then manually build the map on top of it, which would mean the land would stay the mostly the same between builds.

      About the resets, maybe the devs could give the alpha testers access to some pre-defined characters that already have some skills unlocked to make testing easier. Obviously this would be useless when testing skill acquisition, but when they want us to test combat, exploration and such, it might be quicker this way.

    • RE: Fractured Mounts

      @whoatethecat

      It's something I'd like to see as well, if at all possible. A guild war is always better with cavalry.

      As for how it could work, here's a quick idea: a mounted player gains access to a special skillbar with two abilities (to keep it simple), a light and a heavy attack basically. They hit decently hard, but they have long cooldowns, so the player has to retreat and wait for the cooldown to finish after a successful charge.

      In the case of ranged weapons, they should get large penalties to accuracy. Otherwise, a ranged player who can outrun everyone would be too OP.

      To keep it balanced, when a mounted player who has his weapon out gets hit, there's a chance he could get knocked off his mount, dealing serious damage and stunning him for a few seconds.

      This way, it's a situational advantage: if you're in an open field, going for a mounted charge is a good strategy, as long as you can keep the enemy from knocking you off. If you're in an enclosed area, like a dungeon or a dense forest, you can't retreat while your skills are on cooldown, so it's easy for the enemy to surround you and knock you off.

    • RE: Becomming an Angel or Abommination

      @oobenonioo

      Traditionally, there's too many traditions to count. In Judeo-Christian mythology, it's generally accepted that demons are fallen angels, in some versions however they are wicked human souls (usually with Lilith being the first demon), Nephilim (half-angels, half-humans) are supposedly evil spirits and therefore demonic, and in Islam they're something entirely different (demons are born of fire, whereas angels are born of light). Of course, the concept of good spirits and bad spirits predates all these religions, but that's not very relevant here.

      My point is, there are many versions and interpretations of these mythologies, and Fractured doesn't have to bother with sticking to one of them. This game takes place in a completely new universe after all, and Fractured angels and demons aren't the same as angels and demons in our mythologies. Maybe in the Fractured world, angels can become evil again, maybe they can turn back into demons, or maybe they're just incapable of doing bad things and lowering their karma. Who knows? That's for the devs to decide.

      Personally, I'd like it if angels could at least become neutral, since I'd like to try playing as an angel at least once, but being forced to have my alignment set to "good" would become annoying very quickly.

    • RE: Is here another person who scared about writing on the forum?

      @fibs

      To be honest, I'd prefer it if threads like the daily post thread were banned, since it's essentially gaming the system. Still, those people have to visit the forum daily to get their points, so there's a decent chance they'll be tempted into joining the conversation at some point. There's the "create a thread" quest as well, which gives people an incentive to make a thread like this one.

      Either way, it doesn't matter too much, since the Foundation system is there mostly just to make the forum look more alive and to give people an incentive to advertise Fractured around the net. I doubt the devs really care about how introverted we all are.

    • RE: I want to get excited but...

      I'd assume there'll be a lot more humans, since they're the 'moderate' faction, with the most freedom and least penalties. Politics will matter a lot more for humans as well, so players who are interested in these things will most likely make human characters. Probably a lot of hardcore crafters as well, since humans will get exclusive technologies.

    • RE: Game Idea : Relic War (PVP) and other game mode

      I'd much rather have it work with guilds rather than karma to be honest, since it kind of undermines the entire concept of a political system. Not all good guilds are on the same side, not all evil guilds are on the same side, but with a system like this, they'd be forced to cooperate just to stay competitive.

      My suggestion is, make the buffs small enough so that they don't really make a difference in the long run, and put the relics on asteroids so that guilds from all planets have an equal chance to get one.

    • RE: Will There Be Any Weather Restriction?

      Food and drinks. You start your journey to the largest town of the realm. Just like fighting, travelling accelerates the need to feed yourself. While some regions are rich with edible resources and you can hope to find food on the way, this one is quite bare and requires adventures to plan their trip wisely. You open your bag, and realize there’s only a slice of hardtack in it – and this is not LOTR. Damn!
      Clothing. This time, you’ve brought the perfect quantity of food and water with you and you’re sure you’ll reach your destination with ease… but you’ve forgotten you have to cross a mountain pass in the meantime. Your journey ends up with a new human popsicle on the way, reminding travelers that on Fractured equipment doesn’t matter in combat only.
      Rest. You won’t get fooled this time. You have plenty food, water and all the clothing you need. A little too much, in fact. You’re heavy, and you’re tiring quickly. When your legs refuse to move any longer, you set up a makeshift bed, feast aplenty and close your eyes for a shirt sleep – but your lame camp offers little protection, so a pack of wolves ends up feasting on you. Too bad!

      ^ From the Travels Spotlight. Those will be the three main things to keep in mind while traveling in Fractured.

    • RE: Game Idea : Relic War (PVP) and other game mode

      @finland

      Easy. Make it so that a guild can only have one or two of these, and make them easy enough to obtain with some group effort so that all serious guilds and plenty of casual ones will be able to obtain one without much difficulty.

      Putting them outside of cities would make it separate from siege system, but strategically, if you were a guild leader, where would you choose to store a powerful relic? In a city that's already heavily guarded, or in a temple that's in the middle of nowhere? Guarding these things would be a nightmare. No player would want to stand watch for hours near one of these, so at best they'd be guarded by NPCs. It would turn into another PvE thing. You'd be forcing the relic to be stored in the most vulnerable position just to make it separate from the siege system, which just feels to me like a bad case of metagaming.

      I kind of want this to be a thing now. Unlock Necromancy, kill a player, raise him as a zombie, ride him into battle.

      I bet demons would brag in pubs about who has the best zombie carebear mount.

    • RE: Crafting system and lifeskilling suggestion

      @ladyrowan

      Equal in this context means equally useful, therefore there won't be any weapons that are objectively superior.

      In most classic RPGs, you'd typically start with an iron sword, then you'd work your way up to steel, which would deal more damage and just be overall better. In Fractured, maybe the iron sword would have less durability, but you could deal the same amount of damage with it. And since weapons can be repaired, if steel is scarce on the market, it might be better to pick the iron one and repair it with cheap iron often than to pick the steel sword and have nothing to repair it with when its durability is low.

      It also depends on your playstyle, since some players will prefer a shorter, faster sword, whereas others might pick a slower one with more reach. Both deal similar DPS, therefore they're equal, but players will choose the one that suits them best.

    • Ars Goetia - ARGO: The Demon Merchant Guild

      0_1525819649845_goetia.png

      "Even worse, there had been frightening tales of more and more of them leaving the light. Meddling with demons and dark powers..."

      Demons are violent. They are savage and ruthless. That is what you see at first glance, and that is also where most stop looking. But those who know the truth of us, who dwell on this forsaken world, would tell you otherwise. They'd tell you about Ars Goetia.

      Ars Goetia is a demon-centric guild of merchants. Because in a way, demons are the perfect merchants: they can travel to other worlds much more easily than the other races, they always have (admittedly often violent) ways of acquiring more merchandise to sell, and since few outsiders will be foolish enough to travel to Tartaros, weapons and materials from there will be highly valued on Syndesia and Arboreus both.

      For this purpose, ARGO will provide two primary services to exploit those advantages:

      • Summoning: A deal with a member of Ars Goetia will be arranged. The deal-maker and the ARGO member will meet at a pre-approved location on either Syndesia or Arboreus, preferably away from civilization. They will then trade goods as was previously agreed. The physical safety of anyone who attempts to deviate from the terms of the agreed-upon deal is not guaranteed.
      • Familiar: Because there will likely be humans and beastmen who will want to visit Tartaros, but not necessarily die in the attempt, ARGO will provide what is essentially a guide service. An ARGO member with detailed knowledge of the location to be visited will assist the customer in avoiding populated areas and point out places of interest. If the customer dies during the attempt, they will, of course, receive a small discount.

      For evil humans who want demonic equipment to complete their image, craftsmen who want to be able to forge rare gear from Tartaros, and explorers who want to visit the demon planet in relative safety, Ars Goetia aims to be the go-to solution.

      To join:

      • You must be a demon. Exceptions may be made, depending on how multiracial guilds will be handled in-game.
      • You must have a solid grasp on the English language. A good merchant is one that can haggle effectively without either party having to use a dictionary.
      • You must be willing to treat customers decently, unless they decide to forego payment.

      It does have some influence, for example it's been said that hellfire demons are more resistant to heat, shadow demons are better at stealth, etc. I'm actually really curious as to whether those passives will disappear with the angel transformation or not.

      @gothix

      A unique skin called Indecisive Irma. It looks just like the default demon skin. The devs were going to make it look unique, but they couldn't decide on a design for it.
