    • RE: AGive us another spotlight!

      @benseine

      Sure, the city one is definitely going to be interesting. Another one I'm looking forward to is something about politics, laws, that kind of thing. Can't wait to see to what extent guilds can decide what people can and can't do in their territory. Crafting is an obvious one as well, since Fractured is going to be such a heavily crafting-oriented game, yet we don't know a lot of the specifics involved.

      I'd say we just need more Spotlights, period. All of them. Keep them coming.

    • RE: AGive us another spotlight!

      The devs are busy with the Kickstarter campaign right now, I'm sure they'll give us a Spotlight after they set everything up.

      Besides, we most likely already know what the next one will be about:

      In our original plan, this update was to be dedicated to town building, management, and conquest. The heated discussions arisen on the forums about PvP convinced us to prioritize a different topic – but we’ll soon be back on track!

    • RE: Suggestion: Offline character activities

      Maybe that's the best compromise - as @kellewic said, we know our characters can continue learning even while offline:

      When you have your tome and enough Knowledge Points, you can start the learning process: the points are consumed and the book is inscribed, removed from your inventory and added to one of the Learning Slots of your character – if you have at least one not in use. Once launched, a learning process cannot be interrupted and continues even when your character is offline. The inscribed tome disappears when the learning has been completed.

      It could be as simple as this: when you go offline, the learning process continues, as stated above. If you go offline while in a city, the process goes slightly faster (~10% maybe?), which makes sense from a realism standpoint as well, since studying is probably easier in the safety and peace of a city than it is out in the wilderness.

      While this is going on, your character idles around the city like an NPC, not doing anything important, just making the place feel more alive. There's no benefit to being offline instead of playing, cities look less empty, and players get an incentive to spend more time in cities. I think that could work.

      I think Fractured has Allods beat when it comes to sexy advertising, though.

    • RE: Night/Day events

      Not sure about events, but we do know Shadow Demons will get buffs during night time. This might apply to certain mobs as well, like @Esoba said, so that when you're hunting for specific monsters, you should take into account whether they're nocturnal or diurnal. That would be a neat little feature, and it shouldn't be too hard to implement programming-wise.

    • RE: Suggestion: Demon Bone Armor/Weapon

      @kellewic

      Surely there will be some who'll be afraid, but I doubt they'll come anywhere close to being the majority. Dying is a part of MMOs, after all. Being afraid of death when there are no consequences wouldn't do a real gamer any good.

      Yees, extreme fear. What does fear mean again?

      fear (fîr)
      n.
      A feeling of agitation and anxiety caused by the presence or imminence of danger.

      If they don't have anything valuable with them when they die, there's no real danger. When there's no danger, there's no fear. And they can't be terrified if they're not afraid.

      Why wouldn't they? They're not really risking anything if they only come with easily replaceable gear.

    • RE: Help!?

      I imagine deception will play an important role in GvG wars, mostly infiltration and sabotage. There's a lore snippet in the Races spotlight in which a turncoat turns the tide of a siege battle:

      One blink, two blinks, then more every second. Mae could see the brief flashes of purple light coming from every street in the dark of the eclipse. The mages were calling it a day and teleporting god-knows where. The town was lost, now that was for sure.
      There had been hope before, even when the light of day had started to fade at the wrong hour of the day. They were prepared. The walls surrounding Omenia were strong, and everyone had a great deal of faith in those shining tubes of iron they had put up there on the bastions. They could shoot large spheres of metal right in the middle of the sieging army, the engineers said. And then there was the main door of course, an unbreakable monster of wood and iron. Too heavy to be handled by human or animal power, it was controlled by a massive steam engine – another novelty of the twisted times they lived in, she thought. It could have all worked out, hadn’t she ordered her little rebel unit to murder the technicians and seize control of the engine. Soon after, the main door had swung open, throwing the whole garrison of Omenia into dismay.
      Mae turned around to a rumbling sound getting closer to her apartments. They were coming. She could hear the screams of agony of her guards and servants. A bitter sacrifice, but one for a good cause. Bad things must be done at the call of a superior good.
      The ravaging beasts that entered the bed chamber found her naked, glaring back at them with impassive green eyes. They were still hungry – always hungry – but didn’t dare to make a step further. They had been ordered not to do so, and while they didn’t always respect orders, that time surely they did. Then they moved to the side, swift and respectful.
      Mae watched them pave the way for their master – and soon she made her appearance. She was so beautiful, slim, tall, with shining white eyes that seemed to eat all the light in the room. Mae had waited so long to meet her. Shaking a little – but just a little – she started walking towards her, then broke into a run, ending up straight into her arms. It was a moment of pure joy – no, more, ecstasy! – when she finally felt the teeth slowly descending into the flesh of her neck.

      Such a shame, we'd love to have you. Maybe one day, you can hire an ARGO member to tutor you! We accept gold and the skulls of our enemies as payment.

    • RE: Maximising impact

      They're going to start a multi-lingual ad campaign soon. Other than that, players who spread the word about the game are rewarded with foundation points, so that's a form of community-driven advertising.

    • RE: Suggestion: Offline character activities

      It's an interesting idea, reminds me of a game I played a long time ago called Age of Wushu. A detailed explanation is available here, but essentially, it allows players who log out in a city to put their characters to work as NPCs, such as servants or guards. VIP players can also have their character open a shop after they log out in a city.

      There are two kinds of pets, the cash shop ones are cosmetic only. The ones that actually do things can only be gained by playing the game.
