    • RE: Winter Alpha Spotlight – City Overhaul

      @WaterMerchant

      Yes. There will be "some" PvP allowed on Arboreus. Just how much area has never been officially stated. What has been stated, however, is that there will be no reason for a beastman to travel to an PvP zone on Arboreus unless that is what they are looking for, as there will be no special resources found in those areas.

      Also, Demons will only be allowed in those PvP zones due to a very limited time schedule that they are ever allowed to be on the planet.

      I have talked to @Prometheus about the %, and we are hoping that he will agree that Arboreus should at least be 80% if not 90% free of PvP. He has also stated that they will work hard on keeping the PvE content on Arboreus updated and fresh.

      There will be PvE on Tartoros as well, but you are able to be killed the entire time you are trying to do PvE there 🙂

      As for the loot, I have never heard a definitive answer on there being Full Loot on Arboreus. I am hoping that they make both the city structure and looting different on Arboreus than they have on the PvP inclined planets as the dynamics on that planet are just "different" all together..

      @BlueGoblin

      Maybe on Arboreus than can use the smal town - large town style again. Since Arboreus is suppose to be the largest, they could really add a ton of towns, and since it is almost completely PvP free, then there is no worries for them being pk'd.

      I do agree that the game at the moment does seem very PvP oriented, however, they have been gearing up for this PvP alpha that is coming up since the last alpha. So hopefully, after this alpha they will start balancing things out versus PvP and PvE again and have Arboreus up as soon as Beta starts if not before.

      @grofire

      I think you both misunderstood what I wrote.

      An angel and Abomination are no longer classified as their starting race, hence they are "exiled" from their home planet and must fine residency on the opposite planet. And while different races can go to other planets, you will more than likely only ever see ALL the races together on Syndesia at the same time (and on asteroids when they pass by).

      points for inviting friends and them getting to a certain level, however I know not everyone has access to the game at the moment.

      The developers usually tend to open up the alpha tests to the general public at the end of the test phase, as well as host fully open tests lasting a couple or three days from time to time. There are also tons of alpha access keys that are given away to people all the time for winning competitions, watching videos, and so forth, that you or your friends can win and thereby use to access the game during the testing phase.

      @Ridlore

      Yes, Arboreus is Majority PvE with a few PvP zones along the outer edges that hold nothing valuable and therefore does not have to be visited unless desiring some PvP.
      Tartoros is full PvP
      Syndesia is a Crime and Punishment PvP... doing crimes lower you alignment and currently cost "gold" to get out jail when caught by Bounty Hunters.

      Asteroids will be temporary planets which all races can travel to,and will be Full PvP as on Tartoros.

      Except for the human planet Syndesia, do not expect to see all the races in one place.

      If anyone can use the teleport from the dock, even if it is not built, what is the advantage of spending time and resources to build the dock? I see little benefit in wasting time and recruits to earn a trip fee?

      Docks will be fully built at the start, there will be no reason to build them as they are no longer within the city structure.

      11:49
      If enemies will be able to enter the city, will we be able to hire guards to protect the city?
      for example:
      City rank 3 can hire 1 guard (100gold / day)
      City Rank 6 can hire 2 guards (200 Gold / day)
      City Rank 9 can hire 3 guards (300 Gold / day) ... ...

      • Cities with guards would be allowed pvp inside them.
      • Each city and Guild would be blacklisted. Guild or blacklisted players will be attacked by city guards.

      (There is no logic if my enemies can enter the city and I cannot attack them within my own city).
      The city governor should have the power to decide whether or not to do PVP within the city. Cities with pvp on would appear on the map with a red shield. (IDEA) Only those who want to go to this city.

      Personally, instead of them having to invest that much more time in AI (which as we know is hardly ever good against a player to begin with) and server resources in dealing with them, I think it would be better to just have permissions set so that they just could not ever use the resources to begin with.

      also, in regards to having guards... all you need to do is look at Shadowbane and see how well that did not work.

      14:34
      To be governor of the city, will there be elections? it would be interesting that every 4 weeks there were elections and that all citizens could vote for the candidate they prefer.

      • Candidates could mention what they would do to please citizens. Example: Opening the city for PVP or lowering the house maintenance fee, building roads, etc.

      Yes, the developers already plan on having a democratic government for the cities (unless the governor package was bought where the governor could have a "dictatorship" instead of a democratcy and can not be outed except by a coup) where elections can be held every 30 days I believe it is.

      I saw in the article where you talked about the major "leeching" and permissions issue for the cities. So I will be posting the referenced forum threads here for you. I do not know how much is needed to discuss in this setting however, since you appear to want us to mostly wait and discuss it during your Twitch stream. But anyhow, here are the links and waiting to hear your reply 🙂

      I agree. I just can not see how a true horizontal mechanic could ever work for an MMORPG. RPG require growth, and growth means that you are better than what you original started as. Without it, they are indeed nothing but a battle royal.

      @Farlander said in The decision for public vs citizens-only crafting stations should be made by Governors, not Dynamight:

      I seem to remember a time when this forum community argued hard against the game steering toward large groups that dominated the landscape. It would seem logical to me that to combat that idea encouraging solo play or even small group play would be beneficial toward this end. I highly feel that solo play should not be a detriment to the point someone gets frustrated and quits the game.

      Agreed. Solo players should be able to do a lot of things, but they should never be able to do everything... and they will need to rely on others for some things. If a player wants to travel between cities as a traveling merchant, let them... but they will need to pay the costs for doing so as well. Just as there are costs for creating cities and all the valuable assets they have.

      Let there be cities that are open so they can have their areas, but let the Governor decide that. Let the governor decide who can be in a territory and what it will cost them to do so. It is no different than what it is in real life, and this will keep from having a territory undermined from the its weak foundation.

      I have NEVER seen an MMO where the vast majority of players were NOT in a guild. Over all, the number of active non-guilded players who are above the "newbie" level could be counted with limited digits.

    • RE: First Impressions on the new City System

      @LonelyCookie

      Totally agreed. There needs to be something done about the residential area, Cities need to have more influence over who can reside within their territory. Rather it be outright permissions on who can settle there, taxes on use of their assets, the ability to turn on/off pvp on residential plots, or the destruction of residential plots/property when the city falls.

      Otherwise...you will have ths scenerio.... a player will go to a top tier city, settle in a residential area outside, build all the stuff on their plot... and then help their "guild" to destroy the city while keeping everything.

      @Prometheus statement about "not good being in enemy territory" does not work well as you can not be killed on a plot or within the city... so the player only needs to plot hop until they get close enough to the city and then "relocate" or run to the city and vice versa. Also, this means that the city would have to post a 24/7 watch just to try to keep them from doing so. Another... and this is major... their spawn point is RIGHT BACK AT THE HOUSING PLOT! so... they can place their stuff in a bank if they see opposition and return later to pick it up. Not only that, but say the city is a 30 person guild, and a 20 person guild sets up camp outside of the city... that 20 person camp is in a much stronger position than the 30, since their stuff can not be destroyed or lost.

      I understand trying to cater to solo players.. but this IS a MMO. Solo players must make sacrifices to play solo. Being a citizen of a city is NOT a big sacrifice nor is having to support a city to be able to "use" what they built. Yes.. some of their maintenance "gold" goes to the city coffers.. but please...that's ridiculous... there has to be more cost to being able to live near a city and use all of its resources.

      Regardless, the devs will fnd that they will need to implement measures to keep "leeching" at a minimum, or the game will die out very quickly. At the bare min, have the housing plots be destroyed if the city is destroyed.

      PS. With all that being said.... I think over all the change they made to the city structure is awesome. They just need to fix a crucial problem with it is all.

      @Tiptoe

      No... the only way a player can live on a planet that is not their home planet is to "transform".

      Also, it is the core game design to have the different races have their own play style. They will not change this, if you are wanting something different (ie. being a demon that only does PvE) then you will need to find a different game that is designed for that.

      core game designs will not be changed.

      @Kazzier said in How hyped are you?:

      I'm probably checking the website and forum around about twice a day, which I honestly didn't expect to be doing having previously lost my confidence in the MMO market. This was mainly due to bad/greedy company practices and MMO's loosing their original direction.

      I find myself somewhat impressed by the company so far, and the development of the game has me genuinely hopeful. The company seem to be trying to do everything right to build a solid base for their game and gain a reputation. If they manage to pull this off (so far so good) then the reception on entering the MMO market will be positive, and should attract a decent quantity of players.

      Needless to say, as a result I am incredibly hyped. If there was an option, I would play the game right now, throughout it's continued early development.

      Heck, last night I was even dreaming about the game. So they are obviously doing something right.

      Roll on next Alpha test.
