    • Patch Log - b.1.0c - Bug Fixes, Spell Cancelling & Parcel Protection

      Hi all,

      first minor patch is coming!

      Changes

      • Attacking no longer cancels spellcasting. You can still cancel issuing a movement command. #1 player request fulfilled!
      • Being inside of a land parcel you own or co-own grants protection from monsters, which will ignore you. Attacking the monster outside causes the protection to be lost. #2 player request fulfilled!

      Bug Fixes

      • Packaging stations are functional again.
      • This was fixed yesterday: boosted crafts from used recipes are correctly saved at logout and no longer lost.
      • Opening the store from the button in game now correctly opens the store for Steam users instead of showing the home page.
      • It's no longer possible to pick up items from cart inventories when mounted and bug your character out.
      • Casting a leech spell against a creature with Globe of Spell Protection no longer causes the caster to lose mana regeneration even though the spell (correctly) failed to cast.
      • It's now possible for a land parcel owner to set permissions for the Forge, and a Smeltery set as Public is now accessible to everyone.

      This is something we're going to cover in a feature spotlight of its own, but I can drop some hints. There will be different schools of magic, tied to different regions of the world and to NPCs that populate player-made towns. The NPCs will be region-specific as well though. Bottom line, you'll have to explore the whole world, including the areas that are most hostile to your race, if you want to learn all the spells in the game. And then there are Ancestral and Divine spells, connected to the most remote locations and the Gods of Fractured... but I can't reveal more about those now, you'll have to wait for the spotlight ๐Ÿ˜‰

    • Feature Spotlight #6 - PvP, Alignment & Crime

      Hi everyone!

      Now that the last Feature Spotlight has officially ended the series of updates dedicated to the Knowledge System, itโ€™s about time we move to what is likely to be the most debated topic in the history of the Fractured community - and that of the MMO genre in general.

      The topic, of course, is Player Versus Player.

      Since the very beginning, weโ€™ve stated how Fractured wants to cater to the needs of peaceful/cooperative and aggressive/competitive players alike, allowing them to coexist in a single, massive game server. How does that happen in reality? Come find out!

    • Welcome the first Fractured forum moderator

      Hi everyone,

      we're glad to announce you that starting today these boards will have their first official moderator. Give a warm welcome to @Specter!

      What is a moderator?

      A moderator is a volunteer who helps the Dynamight Studios team in managing the community boards of Fractured. The major tasks of a moderator are:

      • To remove content that violates our Terms of Service, and, if needed, punish the violators.
      • To keep conversations friendly and on topic.
      • To point all members of the community asking questions to the appropriate replies if already given, or get in touch with us to answer them.

      We're going to keep a laidback approach to moderation, so as long as you stay nice ladies and gentlemen you'll likely never hear a reproach. Also, don't forget a moderator is first and foremost your friend, not a forum policeman :slight_smile:

      A little side note

      In these first two weeks of August our presence as developers here on the forums will be quite limited, and most likely no Feature Spotlights will be posted till around the 15. Our apologies, but pretty much the whole studio is on vacation! ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

    • First Fractured Gameplay Video Released!

      Yes ladies and gentlemen, it's all true. After a (way too) long wait, the first Fractured gameplay video has been finally released!

      The footage includes 15 minutes of cuts from half an hour of pre-alpha gameplay, featuring the exploration of a 1 sq. km, procedurally-generated map, showcasing our beloved ARPG combat and the overall art direction of the game.

      Adding to the above, weโ€™ve thrown in some commentary with insights on core features such as character and world building. Moreover, weโ€™re delving into โ€œcool technical stuffโ€ like procedural map generation and the inner workings of the SpatialOS engine.

    • RE: How is bow build viable? seems underwhelming...

      Hi @Azurael! Bow damage is actually pretty high, and you don't need mana to keep attacking, so I'm wondering... have you tried it with the Gladiator background (or even better, a 18 DEX 18 PER character) or with your mage character? Because if it's the latter, it's obviously not going to be great ๐Ÿ™‚

      On a side note: level 4-6 poisons and non-primitive weapons are missing, don't forget that ๐Ÿ™‚

      Just so you all know - we're following the whole discussion closely. We're all busy with the recordings for Kickstarter, but I'll soon make a dedicated thread to explain why the progression boost from VIP is marginal and why it absolutely doesn't affect the "competitive power" of a guild with players using it VS one who doesn't.

    • RE: Server regions?

      Hi @MiniHammer, currently we only have one world, hosted in US East. Later on, we might add an EU server if population becomes too large, otherwise we'll stick to a single server for US+EU.

      Other markets are a different story. Latency from Asia/Oceania to EU/US is too high, so once we hit Asian markets (likely at full launch, as you mentioned) we'll surely have a world hosted in China. See this blog post for more info ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Gamescom Here We Come - And You?

      Hi everyone,

      GamesCom 2019 is approaching! Me and the other two founders of Dynamight Studios (Andrea aka Uriel - Lead Designer and Michele aka Sunti - Art Director) are going to be there from Tuesday 20 to Friday 23!

      I guess a few of you will be there too. We'd be glad to meet up for a chat while we're not busy talking with some publisher and whatnot. If the presence of Fractured fans is substantial, we could organize a Fractured lunch/dinner!

      Moreover, we have a booth in the business area, part of the Italian Games stand (Hall 3.2, Stand D010 E019) from Tuesday 20 to Thursday 22! If any of you has purchased access to the business area because you're game devs yourselves, press, influencers... You should totally drop by to visit us - let's play Fractured together! ๐Ÿ˜‰

      So... just leave a post here if you'll be at GamesCom, and let's see how this goes!

      Oh, I understand where the misunderstanding is coming from now @islesofurth! We still haven't assigned the gold from the old packs ๐Ÿ™‚ It was meant to be done last week but preparation for Gamescom messed our plans up - we'll do it this week for sure though!

      Edit: we also need to implement the page that shows what pledge you used to have and what you got from it - that we'll also do this week.

      We need to dare to breath new life into the genre. Very few have tried to do something different when in comes to political systems in MMOs, and there's no reason why democracy won't work if the system is well designed and takes into account all "loopholes" ๐Ÿ™‚

      (on a side note, you can rule your town as a guild town and avoid the "democratic" side of the system)

      Hi @Aries, I assume you're talking about the rewards from The Foundation since you've mentioned "character level". None of them (aside from forum titles) can be claimed because the systems supporting them haven't been implemented yet. This includes the pet companion system, the equipment skinning system and the mount system.

      Most cosmetic systems will be implemented later on (beta or even full release) since gameplay has higher priority. Pet companions may be an exception and get live during Alpha, but it's not guaranteed.

      I understand it can be a bit annoying, but it's common for crowdfunded game in early stages of development and it's been stated multiple times since The Foundation has been launched.

      During the first open test, people had issues that no 'tutorial' existed, holding their hand to teach them the basics. The developers listened to that feedback and implemented a short tutorial. Baking bread is simply the most trivial form of conveying gathering resources and crafting, which is why the fields are marked as hotspots on the map.
