    • Pre-Alpha Wave 4 Is Out - Live On Thursday

      Hi everyone!

We're glad to announce that the fourth wave of invites for the Fractured Pre-Alpha has been sent out today!

All players invited will gain access to Pre-Alpha servers starting this Thursday, March 14, at 6pm CET (12pm ET).

We've invited a total of 50 players, including all the ones who were in the TOP 100 of the leaderboard of The Foundation on 27th of November, plus a few contest/drawing winners (including those not yet published).

This wave is the last one - from here we go straight to Alpha 1, open to everyone who has purchased a Knight pack (or higher) on our store and during our Kickstarter campaign!

Here you can find some additional info on the Pre-Alpha in case you've missed them. Here instead you can find information regarding the state of development of the game.

      Enjoy Fractured!

Hi @VyrVandalous πŸ™‚ As @Logain mentioned, we do have additional funding, we're not limited to Kickstarter and store sales. On the other hand, it's also true we're not selling as much as expected, so we're (slowly) burning through our savings. We expect things to change radically though once we lift the NDA and Alpha 1 begins, without having to resort to any kind of "pay to win" πŸ™‚

It’s yet to be known if they’ll grant access in waves however. AFAIK of course

There will be no "waves" unless we get a monster amount of sales of Knight+ packs before Alpha 1 starts (unlikely) πŸ™‚

      Hi everyone!

We're glad to announce that the third wave of invites for the Fractured Pre-Alpha has been sent out today!

All players invited will gain access to Pre-Alpha servers starting next Wednesday, February 20, at 6pm CET (12pm ET).

We've invited a total of 40 players this time, mostly (but not exclusively!) picked from the TOP 100 of the leaderboard of The Foundation as it was on the 27th of November.

This wave is the only one for this month. The next and last one, Wave 4, is likely coming on the first week of March and is going to include all the players in the "frozen" TOP 100 plus a few new TOP 100 entries and contest winners.

Here you can find some additional info on the Pre-Alpha in case you've missed them. Here instead you can find information regarding the state of development of the game.

And didn't you generate the map multiple time? On discord, you have shown a generation image 24h before the begin of the trivia and as you said it takes only 5h

I generated it multiple times indeed πŸ™‚

@Kralith said in The Myr Trivia - Results & Winners:

@Prometheus you asked about questions, what will be the limit for a chunk (512x512) to place surface stuff?

I'm afraid I don't understand the question πŸ˜… Are you asking what's the maximum number of items in a 512x512 tile?

@Logain said in The Myr Trivia - Results & Winners:

Roughly how many 'screens' is a kmΒ²?

Your character is 1.8m tall, so I guess you can see about 15-20m on your left and right? You can calculate from that but it doesn't mean much...

@Brocki said in The Myr Trivia - Results & Winners:

There are in average 90m2 land around each resource node, 24m2 around each decoration and 7800m2 around every monster spawner without another object of the same kind.
It's very hard to imagine, but these numbers, in particular the spawner one, are looking kinda large.

Yeah. This means there are on average roughly 10 meters between two resource nodes, 5 between decorations, and 88 between monster spawners (these numbers are the squared roots of the ones you posted, a decent approximation).

The distance of resource nodes is definitely not large, it actually means you pretty much always have multiple resource nodes on your screen πŸ™‚ It's also not high for decorations if you consider that each is quite large - a 2m x 2m patch of clovers, a large bush, etc.

For monster spawners is a bit high indeed but we can't have more until we optimize movement (pathfinding) further. Still, considering your characters runs 5 meters per second, you only have to run for 20 seconds to find a different group of monsters from the one you're fighting. Not so bad, right? πŸ™‚

    • The Myr Trivia - Results & Winners

      Hi everyone!

Here we go with the results of the Myr Trivia - a survey where the community was invited to guess some info regarding the first iteration of Myr, the first continent of Syndesia.

The total amount of resource nodes in the continent is... 635,882! That's about 11,000 per km2!

@Mazikar, with his very close 687.250 guess, wins 1,000 Foundation Points!

The total amount of decorations in the continent is... 2,394,802! That's about 41,500 per km2, almost 4 times more than resource nodes.

No one got close, but one got closer: @Gantrydublin, with his 1,500,000 guess! Congratulations, 1,000 Foundation Points!

The total amount of monster spawners in the continent is... 7,303! That's about 127 per km2, which means 200-300 creatures per km2.

@Crozz, with his very good 7,000 guess, wins 1,000 Foundation Points!

How long did it take to generate the map and all of the above? About 5 hours on a laptop with 16gb of RAM and an Intel i7-7700HQ CPU. Certainty one of our artists' PCs with a ton of CPU cores and more RAM would have done better, but so it went this time.

@Aurellas and @Logain guessed right and won 200 Foundation Points!

Thank you all for participating and thanks to SpatialOS for making this massive world possible.

Got any question on the results? Ask away! If you liked the idea, we'll run more trivias during Alpha 1 πŸ˜‰

      Cheers!

    • The Myr Trivia - Guess & Win Foundation Points!

      Hi everyone!

We've just completed the first generation of Myr, the continent Syndesia featured in Alpha 1 - Test 1! That's just the first iteration, and it's missing some key elements such as coast biomes, Heartwood and the Vale, but it's a major milestone nonetheless!

To celebrate, let's have a trivia game about Myr. Post your guesses to the following questions:

      • The total amount of resource nodes in the continent. They include trees, plants, rocks, stone deposits, mineral deposits, and so on. Prize: 1,000 foundation points.
      • The total amount of decorative elements in the continent. They include patches of grass, decorative bushes and trees, decorative stones, and similar. Prize: 1,000 foundation points.
      • The total amount of monsters spawners in the continent. They can spawn more than one creature each (usually 2-3). Prize: 1,000 foundation points.
      • How many hours it takes our tools to procedurally generate the continent. Prize: 200 foundation points.

Prizes will be assigned to everyone who guesses the right number (or to the person who gets closest to it if no one does) ---> in the next 24 hours <---.

      Need help guessing? Consider that...

      • Myr is about 57 km2 wide (about 22 sq mi).
      • In the latest update you can find many screenshots of the game from which you may guess what the density of elements is.

You're free to discuss your guesses in this thread, but please make your answers obvious and don't post them more than once.

A note. don't worry about pre-alpha testers, they don't really have an advantage since the distribution of resource nodes and creatures in this new version is quite different from the one they're playing on. Let the screenshots talk!

      Enjoy!

@grizzlypk said in Discuss how to get more people engaged:

Hey all , like the title states, we need more ways to get new players involved. I also think that we need some more gameplay footage to really get more people to look at the game. As of right now, there is hardly any footage. I think the devs should throw some landscape footage of the alpha 1 it there with some mob population and a scale to show how big the world really is.

I could make a video where I walk from one side of Myr to the other... I don't know how many people would be interested in a 1.5 hours run though πŸ˜„

    • RE: Creative Biome Discussion

@Mrchipps said in Creative Biome Discussion:

As soon as I saw that they had ideas on biomes. It dawned on me that they definitely need to make sure these biomes are diverse and have different feels and layouts to them. I wonder if there is any idea on mixed or cross biomes? Either 70/30 or a small section of one biome within another biome.
We could have a plains that has a small section in the middle with a grassland section or a small marsh within a forest. It I think depends on how large the biomes are and how much physical game world they will take up if this will be possible.

      Quoting from the update:

Moreover, there can be visible differences even within the same biome. Here’s an example of a Birch Forest and an Oak Forest sub-biome within a Grassland biome:

So yes, things already work that way! You can have a grassland biome that is about 1 km2 in size, and inside of it have one or more forests, of different types. What is not possible is to have a swamp as part of a grassland (which would make it different from a swamp part of a dry plain, for instance), because a swamp is a main biome. However, we could easily design a portion of map to have a small swamp biome surrounded by grasslands. Everything is possible! πŸ™‚

    • RE: Post Kickstarter Funding is Going Well

Our character artist and a dev are working on character creation right now! It was originally meant to feature only race selection (male/female for humans) and a couple basic options. Instead, you'll be able to select different faces, haircuts, facial hair, skin tones, eye colors, etc for humans, and equivalents for other races.

It won't be implemented all at the same time, but realistically throughout the first half of this year. Of course, even in its complete version, the options you'll have will be way fewer than the average first/third person RPG, but still a very decent amount for an isometric RPG πŸ™‚

@genobee said in Unity has blocked SpatialOS - What's up and what it means for us:

Out of curiosity are there any other engines you could consider using? I'm aware that would cause massive delays, but in a worst case scenario is that at least possible?

Moving to the Unreal Engine would be possible in a "worst-case scenario", as you defined it. It would require raising substantial new capital though (possibly through this newly established fund), and would anyway set us back more than 1 year... and mind that 1 year is just the development time, not considering what it takes to find the right people to hire.

@solaris said in Unity has blocked SpatialOS - What's up and what it means for us:

This should be good news for Fractured:
      Unity’s response. https://blogs.unity3d.com/es/2019/01/10/our-response-to-improbables-blog-post-and-why-you-can-keep-working-on-your-spatialos-game/

Unity's response doesn't mean much. Revoking Improbable's licenses prevents them from developing their Unity integration and supporting the developers who use that. Also, their new TOS are still dangerous for any company offering the use of Unity as a server - it's silly they claim the TOS don't mean what they obviously mean.

That being said, I'd like to thank all of you for your unwavering support once again. In such a difficult moment as developers, it feels great to know the community has your back!

We have no updates on the topic for now - whatever is going on between Unity and Improbable is confidential. We're pretty sure we'll hear big news next week, good or bad. In the meantime, we keep working as usual! Lots of new spells and the land claiming / building systems are shaping up right now πŸ™‚
