    • WE MADE IT! A video message & a new unlock

      Hi everyone!

It's done! The campaign has hit the target and is now galloping towards its first feature stretch goal! I considered posting the usual wall of text, but I guess a short video is actually more enjoyable 😉

      New Unlock

Oh yes, yet another unlock! This time, all backers receive an exclusive Kickstarter Cape!

We're very close to the Free Carpenter Month already, so I guess I'll have to announce that very soon as well!

Don't forget the next Q&A tomorrow, focused on housing and player-run towns! Leave your questions here if you have any 🙂

      See you soon!

    • RE: Bit worried where the Kickstarter is

@Canterbury @Esoba the MMO news portals have given us some good coverage, mmorpg.com and massively in particular. More generalist videogame portals haven't. Of course it's also our fault, we don't have a PR agency nor a dedicated PR person, I take care of that and I'm definitely not the best at it. We should have promoted better, but it's no use to cry over spilled milk, also considering that we're going to make it! 🙂

    • RE: Kickstarter Artisan in-game reward items

Hi @drawrin! You can redeem them when you want. They're not hard to make, but it can take a little while, particularly with the mule and the wagon because they require several steps - new players will likely use handcarts, not wagons, because they're much easier to make, but also slower to operate 🙂

    • RE: Feature Spotlight #7 - Towns, Governors & Politics

@Dybuk @thudaron the current plan is one house per character. It could become one house per planet per account if needed (so 3 max per account) 😉

Guilds can control multiple cities, but unless they're large guilds (100+ players), it's not a great idea. Much better to focus on a single one. And no, a player can be the governor of one town only. Trust me that's already a lot!

@logain said in Feature Spotlight #7 - Towns, Governors & Politics:

Did I get that right, a guild leader who's Governor on the Beast planet can not be removed from power (no siege and no vote)?

If he declared his town as a guild town, yeah, as much as he cannot be removed from the role of guild master of the guild.

A guild town belongs to a guild. If you join it as a citizen, it's typically because you're part of the guild already, or anyway accept to submit yourself to the rule of the guild. That's true on Syndesia and Tartaros as well (sure, a war could happen there, but you're still accepting the rule of a guild if you move to a guild town).

If you quit the guild or no longer approve its rule, you can simply get your stuff, leave the town and move somewhere else (live by yourself, move to a free town, join another guild and its town). What's so bad about that?

@gamble said in Feature Spotlight #7 - Towns, Governors & Politics:

Other players can enter, but will they be able to do anything? Loot contents of storage? Take furniture/items? Steal your prize-winning pig?

They can't destroy or steal your stuff, nope.

Democracy & Elections usually don't exist in MMOs for a reason.
Hopefully it works out for the best here.

We need to dare to breath new life into the genre. Very few have tried to do something different when in comes to political systems in MMOs, and there's no reason why democracy won't work if the system is well designed and takes into account all "loopholes" 🙂

(on a side note, you can rule your town as a guild town and avoid the "democratic" side of the system)

Does the Governors can discuss With is population or make announcement to all the population with a kind of announcement pannel ?
Is There a referendum system to ask something to the population ?

They can post announcements that include polls, with I guess work pretty much like a referendum 🙂

    • Town Planning Section Rules

This forum section has been created to give Fractured players a place to promote their future town or team up with other people to fund one - disregarding whether that's connected to a guild or not.

A few rules apply here in addition to the standard Fractured Forum Rules, as listed below:

      • You are only allowed to open a thread for your town or for yourself if you are looking for one.
      • This section is just for town planning, not for politics and competition.
      • Adding to the previous point and more generally speaking, don't post replies to recruitment threads unless you want to receive more information on the town.
      • If you have a guild, we invite you to actually create the guild in The Foundation and add the link to its page to your recruitment thread. You don't have to do it, but it makes things much easier!

Threads and posts that break the rules outlined above will be removed. Posts in a recruitment thread might also be removed following a request from OP.

    • RE: Kickstarter Update - Stretch Goals Revealed

@holyhong said in Kickstarter Update - Stretch Goals Revealed:

If I remember correctly, they stated that stretch goals won't implement core mechanics to the game, but aren't fishing and (especially) animal taiming/animal training core features which change gameplay for a lot of people? For example, for someone who plans to create a business with (tamed) animals/pets.

The fact a feature can have a significant impact on gameplay doesn't make it a core feature - otherwise literally anything cool would be a core feature, right? 🙂

A core feature is something necessary for the game to work, and/or something that truly "defines" the game. Survival elements, resource gathering and transportation, crafting, building, player-run towns, governors, town wars, guilds, the knowledge system, environmental effects, the three races and planets, these are core features. Fishing and Animal Taming are content 🙂

@grofire we're getting a lot since we've published the goals actually!

    • RE: Going Worldwide - Regional Servers & Localization

@jetah said in Going Worldwide - Regional Servers & Localization:

I don't them wasting the funding to host multiple servers while in Alpha - Beta.

It makes no difference to have one or more servers with SpatialOS. It's all usage-based. Also, we'll be in the Games Innovation Program once we're funded, so we won't have to pay server expenses for a while anyway 🙂

@vortech said in Going Worldwide - Regional Servers & Localization:

here are some resources from David Salz the CTO of SBI

Interesting, thanks. I gave them a look. If you check out the "Berlin QUO Vadis" one, you'll see it says what I told you in my previous post: they're now hosting the whole game in a single datacenter (where the server is, you can figure out just by searching it on their forums: US East).

The whole server architecture of Albion I knew already overall. It's robust and they've optimized it exceptionally well, but it's essentially the simplest kind possible:

      • Game world divided in clear-cut regions with no interaction possible between two players in different regions
      • Each region controlled by one thread (/ one server process)

The SpatialOS backend architecture is more sophisticated: I could be in front of you in the game, and both of us could be controlled by different server processes. This is, in a nutshell, why we can afford to have an open world and why in the same 1km x 1km area of this open world there could be 2 or 2000 players.

Notwithstanding all this goodness, latency is still latency. If you're in the US and you're in front of a player from China, it takes 300ms for your actions to reach him. There's literally no way out of that besides making optical fiber cables where signal travels at the nominal speed of light, but that's something not available to humanity as of today 🙂

@logain said in Going Worldwide - Regional Servers & Localization:

Is there any chance that you could elaborate a bit on the metrics you're going to use for this decision? (For example, are you going to look at total amount of player, at concurrent players, at peak times/low times, at the distribution of Beast/Human/Demon,...)

A mix of all. Concurrent players during the day are of course one of the most important factors.
