@vicious said in Haven't pledged? Want to upgrade, but not sure yet? Tell us why!:

tbh as i stated in discord and in private msg with you prometheus, the problem of your kick campaign is that alpha access is way too costly and beta cost is fine but is a thing that you get too late this create a very huge gap. it push away who wanna spend not much since they gonna get it a year from now, and the alpha is way to costly for a new indie sh.

It is indeed possible we got the price point for Alpha wrong, that we couldn't afford that because we don't have any "big name" in the company - someone who can present an extremely ambitious project, show as much "gameplay" as a character walking, claim the game will be completed in 1 or 2 years, and get a ton of people to believe him. I'm not referring to anyone specifically, just something that I've seen a few times.

We've taken the honest route, making estimates as precise as possible and openly showing them, hoping people would give us their trust for what we've built. And indeed, we feel that the most active part of the Fractured community has done so, but probably the less engaged part didn't, and people finding the project for the first time even less. Can't go back in time to change that though, so we need to get this Kickstarter to the end with what we have! And we can make it!

What Vicious did was it, right? Yes, most cheaters get shamed in the public and they have to take it what comes to them.

No sparky, it was not right. It created a mess over what turned out to be a dozen fake accounts, not even leveled up and of no particular use.

It created a ton of drama and negativity over nothing during a critical moment such as our Kickstarter campaign, which is something we want to disincentive as much as possible if it goes outside the boundaries of in-game guild vs guild competition. There's been people who got 50+ blatant fake accounts flagged at once. Active members of the community. No one opened a forum thread to "shame them" and start a flame war, and we won't accept any more of this. I hope I made myself clear.

    • RE: Finland and his "3"guild of 100 people combined

The question has been resolved. It was "just" a dozen fake accounts, not even leveled up and of no particular use whatsoever. They've been flagged and excluded from The Foundation. Most of the people in the Black Bull guilds are legitimate players, as proven not only by their usage but also by their acquisition (how they ended up in the Fractured website for the first time).

This thread has only caused a lot of drama for no reason. As I've hinted here, refrain from opening any other public thread of this kind in the future.

      Thanks everyone for your support!

@solaris said in Haven't pledged? Want to upgrade, but not sure yet? Tell us why!:

I pledged early Immortal. Waiting to see more details about housing before I consider upping my pledge.

I guess more than simple housing you mean player-run towns, right?

@grofire said in Haven't pledged? Want to upgrade, but not sure yet? Tell us why!:

@prometheus I pledge already but people that I talked to, says that the game look generic from the videos, so they just want to wait, maybe show the difference? Maybe more PVP and skills? Something splashy, that will give the WOW effect.

Our focus for Alpha 1 is not on combat, so that's not possible. We would have had to develop too much purely promotional content rather than the actual game...

@holyhong said in Haven't pledged? Want to upgrade, but not sure yet? Tell us why!:

So to convince people: a Roadmap of the development might definetly help in my opinion.
If possible, I would apply one in the campaign details on Kickstarter.

I agree that's really important and it's actually planned - we'll release a solid roadmap for Alpha 1,2,3.

@target said in Haven't pledged? Want to upgrade, but not sure yet? Tell us why!:

I'd like to see your plans for the crafting and gear system. For how integral crafting seems to be, we've barely heard anything.

      Coming too!

@vollmond said in Haven't pledged? Want to upgrade, but not sure yet? Tell us why!:

My reason: lack of info about towns and siege/conquer, and craft / town interaction.
I'm EB Knight, but i ''can'' upgrade to Governor with enough info.

      πŸ‘

@dulu said in Haven't pledged? Want to upgrade, but not sure yet? Tell us why!:

#1 - The handling of the Black Bull/Finland situation, and an obvious cheater/admitted hacker not being dealt with swiftly. It's not even him or his guild per se, but the fact that someone can admit to hacking, and cheating a system, and not instantly be dealt with is unforgiveable. These games don't survive when people are allowed to hack. Banning him and his guild should have been your immediate instinct,

Banning a whole guild for the actions of one makes no sense whatsoever. And the reason we're taking it slow is because we're really busy with the campaign and The Foundation is not the game. If it was an in-game rule violation or exploit we'd hit swift and hard. Now the "dishonest player" (I wouldn't call it "cheater") is not damaging anyone besides his own chances to be selected for the pre-alpha.

      UPDATE: resolved.

@Vicious the matter is being investigated, don't worry. We'll take the appropriate actions if needed, as we have done with other people. What will be done and when is a private matter between Dynamight and the alleged dishonest user though, so I'll reiterate for the last time: please stop bringing this up on the forums.

      Hi everyone!

The Kickstarter campaign has started with a boom, and we have celebrated that. Now it's time we ask ourselves the question: what could have we done better? What can we improve during the campaign?

So, without further ado, a simple question for all the people who haven't pledged yet, or who are thinking about raising their pledge tier but aren't convinced yet.

What's keeping you from pledging or upgrading your pledge? Some game feature that worries you? Other features you'd like to know more about? Or maybe you don't feel trustful enough yet and prefer to wait for testing to be running?

We'd be so grateful if you let us know, so we figure out what updates to prioritize and we can try to clear your doubts! πŸ™‚

      Thank you!

@blyndside said in Two Words On Reporting, Leaderboards & Pre-Alpha. I'm tired.:

Now I don't care what you you continue to do with the leader board- but I can't tolerate bullshit- especially bullshit of this calibre, & I even sense a ban for getting involved but I can already see you enjoy conflict otherwise this thread announcing petty garbage wouldn't exist..

The last thing I enjoy is conflict (besides in-game, in-character conflict) - I dislike that as much as your tone, but I'm an overly tolerant person and I won't give you the pleasure of banning you (yet), which is clearly what you're looking for.

@blyndside said in Two Words On Reporting, Leaderboards & Pre-Alpha. I'm tired.:

People DO NOT enter your pre-alphas to test, they enter to learn as much as they can, so they have a competitive edge over EVERYONE else, as much as possible in your game. They test & absolutely try & break the shit out of everything, and "Share Nothing", this is the key difference- They don't share information that can give themselves an advantage, wither it's a bug, an exploit- doesn't matter, if it is believed that it is not serious enough to get someone banned it will be utilized, this happens all the damn time in MMOs, it's so common it's stupid, but here you're already breeding the atmosphere & it'll be hit 10 fold with it being a "Hardcore" game..

And that is one of the reasons why, if we sense this is someone's attitude, said person won't be included in the pre-alpha, disregarding his/her place in the ranking.

You think it's a widespread mindset? It's not. So far, there are literally 2 or 3 people who could be excluded on this ground (if they don't start behaving) out of the whole TOP 100. The others give positive contributions to this community, and I hope you and your friends will start doing so as well.

@benseine said in Defending buildings while offline?:

Player buildings will dissapear over time if you don't pay the ingame upkeep to the carpenter npc.

You can repair them yourself. You don't need the Carpenter NPC, that's a time saver πŸ™‚

@KairosVal "siege window" is the short answer indeed. Also, you can't destroy buildings in general besides defensive ones. Your house is safe even during a siege. If you lose the siege, you lose the town and the house within, but that's a different story...

    • Two Words On Reporting, Leaderboards & Pre-Alpha. I'm tired.

      Hi guys.

As some of you surely have noticed, we had some drama going on this morning on our forums. If you want to spare yourself of the suffering of having to read those 3 pages, I can tell you that, in brief, some user accused someone else of having created several multi accounts to "cheat" The Foundation.

I was entangled in a very long planning meeting for Alpha 1, hence I couldn't intervene immediately. Now, instead of preparing the next Kickstarter update, I'm forced to write down this thread. It means that instead of spending my time making the nice 99% of the community happy, I have to waste it calming down the kindergarten-minded 1%. And I'm not happy about it.

So, let's tackle the issue step by step.

      Reporting

If you want to report someone for any kind of rule-breaking behavior, you shall do so privately to a member of the staff. It can be via forum pm, Discord, email, whatever. But private. Opening a thread of the forums, destined to descend into a flame war, serves no purpose whatsoever.

This time, I'm not going to ban anyone. The next time someone does this instead, he's going to take a long vacation from the Fractured community. Perhaps a permanent vacation.

      The Foundation

The purpose of The Foundation, as stated in its announcement, is to "reward you for doing all the small things that show your interest in Fractured and its success". It's not a competitive thing. The leaderboard is there to allow players to find the most engaged/veteran players and the most active guilds to get in touch with. Nothing is won being top 10 in the leaderboard compared to being rank 2000. The Foundation is going to be eventually phased off during testing.

Please, don't force us to get rid of the leaderboard just because you're taking it as some kind of competitive feature and going nuts about it.

      The Pre-Alpha

Some people might be taking The Foundation in a competitive way because players in the TOP 100 can access the pre-alpha. But what is the pre-alpha?

The pre-alpha is going to consist of a couple (or more) weeks of hardcore testing. It will allow us to receive important feedback and fix unexpected bugs. It requires passion for the game, but also a friendly, cooperative attitude between testers to be successful.

Why am I telling you this? Just to let you know that if you're stirring the pot, engaging in flame wars, threatening other players (more or less explicitly), and overall being a toxic factor in the Fractured community, you won't get into the pre-alpha. Like, not even if you're in the TOP 10. You just won't. Think about that.

I hope everything is clear and we can get back to normal, because seriously, there are a 31.000+ registered users, almost 15k with a forum account, hundreds being really active and really nice, then a handful that manages to consistently turn good threads to trash, and my patience for this last bunch is running out.

Note: if you're part of the handful and want to take said vacation from the Fractured community, giving the wrong reply to this thread is the best way to achieve that. Apologizing instead could do you some good.

    • Kickstarter Update #1 - A Big Thank You & What's Next

      Hi everyone!

I always knew that you were a special lot. Thousands of nice, helpful, friendly people.Β Such a strong passion for the game and its development.Β So much good feedback - including polite, constructive criticism. All of this support has made this year and a half spent overcoming all the challenges of MMO development so exciting and rewarding, it's hard to tell how grateful we are.

...still, I'm once again genuinely thrilled now that I'm typing this message.

      Hi everyone!

The time is approaching for me to host another livestream, and you're scattered all around the globe. Most of you come from America and Europe - quite equally split between the two. We're EU-based, and it's hard to find a good compromise to maximize viewers.

I was wondering then - what's better than a survey? 4 options on the table, please check the ones that work for you (you can vote multiple answers)!

Thank you and see you soon for the next livestream!

@dagimir said in Slow combat vs Fast combat:

a quick spamfest like diablo 3? Clearing whole maps in a matter of minutes

Although Fractured has a combat system inspired to classic actions RPGs, there will be no "spamfest" whatsoever. The ARPG inspiration is mostly visible when it comes to game controls and the fact there is no auto-attack, attacks and projectiles can be dodged (no target follow), spells are skillshots (besides a few exceptions), etc. This makes combat very dynamic - and sometimes hectic because monsters are generally dangerous and able to use several different abilities themselves, so there's a lot of moving and a lot of strategizing to do at the same time.

Of course you have to take our words for this, because that doesn't show much in the pre-alpha videos. It will be already a thing in Alpha 1 (which is anyway more focused on crafting/building than combat), and will grow over the course of Alpha.

    • RE: How big is the world? By square km

@Muffsauce the world(s) will be scaled based on the amount of players expected for each testing phase - something we can do relatively easily thanks to all the work we've put on our procedural generation tools.

Anyway, worlds will be large in general, because travel and exploration are an important part of gameplay, but there will also be clear hotspots and locations of interest (aside from towns) for players to gather - the world won't feel empty unless you really want to go in the middle of nowhere πŸ™‚

If I start as a Blood Demon, and become an angel, will my stats as an angel be the same as if I started out as a Shadow Demon? If not, what changes can I expect from the different races.

They won't be the same - both your look and your attribute bonuses/maluses as an Angel will depend on the family (sub-race) of your character. Same for Beastmen -> Abominations. Other unique abilities of the original sub-race (e.g. night bonuses for a Shadow Demon) might persist after the transformation too πŸ™‚

    • Community Call - Translation Help 2

Hi everyone! Following the success of the first thread, here we are asking you again some little translation help πŸ˜‰

The languages to translate to are the same as last time:

      • Spanish
      • (Brazilian) Portuguese
      • French
      • German
      • Russian
      • Polish

Below you can find the texts that we need to translate - it's only a couple!

      • The long wait is over: Fractured has just gone live on Kickstarter - and it's already a Featured project! Join the revolution!
      • Straight to Featured status. Over $100.000 collected. 100% funded in 10 days. The sandbox MMO revolution is gaining traction - join it now!
      • The first open-world sandbox MMO-ARPG appealing equally to lovers of competitive and cooperative gameplay.

Translations are a bit tricky here - particularly how to translate "featured", which refers to Fractured having been picked as "project we love" by Kickstarter and being shown on the homepage (yes - this happened barely 3 hours after launch!). The idiomatic sentence "gaining traction" is also probably a little tricky. Be careful when you translate! πŸ™‚

Note: the numbers in the second AD text are random of course.

Little reward for everyone who helps: 1,000 foundations points!

      Thank you all a lot!
