I know there is a season mechanic in the game so, now I'm wondering about diseases. Will there, or should there be a mechanic for if you eat bad food, or have low enough constitution that a disease will enter your body?

Diseases (and similar conditions) do exist, although they're more related to curses and poisons than the weather system (never say never anyway!). They play on the Life vs Endurance mechanic in a nice way - more info on this topic will come in the first video!

a mechanic where people have an affinity of collecting/crafting materials easier.
I was thinking like pelts of a beastman or horns from a demon/hart-kin, or beastmen have an affinity to woodcutting, demons are stone-cutters, etc.

Such mechanics do exist! Each race (and family) has its own unique bonuses that go well beyond attribute-related ones - and they include crafting and gathering too

Footage and gameplay will arrive this month! 🙂

I was just wondering how will armor work for beastmen,i mean i can't think of a bear wearing the same armor that a human can wear, there will be specific race armor?or are you just gonna different models of the armors for each race?

There's no race-specific armor - however, each race can craft its own distinctive types of armor. Then other races can wear those too if they like it

As I understand it, Charisma is the "bard stat" that determines the ability to socially & psychologically manipulate other entities / your NPC entourage, so it influences how many pets, mercenaries, summons, or undead you can control at once, yeah?

That's a good approximation, yeah. However, the "summoner" or "necromancer" gameplay isn't necessarily linked to playing as a "mage" (casting spells from afar, lots of INT)

@kairosval said in Feature Spotlight #5 - Character Creation, Attributes And Resting:

It seems weird that the cost of attribute increase for 7 and 8 are both 3, but that the cost of attribute increase for 10-15 is 2 per level. Then the cost per attribute goes back to 3 for 16 and 17, then up to 4 for 18 to 21.
Having 7 and 8 cost three seems like a weird deviation from the rest of the pattern.
I'm not complaining about it. Just curious as to the reasoning.

It's to make it more viable to lower a stat below 10, given the penalties for doing so are quite heavy. You made an example of a character with 6 PER and CHA - that's one who would have a hard time doing PvE (can't identify items, has very bad luck) and in PvP would be smashed by any half-decent user of Assassination and/or Illusionism. Doesn't mean it's not a viable character, but very unbalanced 🙂

Could we get some information of the people behind the game, as I don't see a people behind the game in the FAQ or elsewhere on the site? Eventually you'll be posting a request for funds/funding via Kickstarter, and while the game and concept seems great, I want to know of the people.

@Jetah we have a huge website update in store - once we roll it out, there will be more info about us too. Anyway, we're a young team - some us were involved in the development of the indie MMORPG Linkrealms, others in games of very different genres.

No, there's no "industry legend" among us - that's why we're going to fill this expected "trust gap" by showing you actual MMO gameplay before Kickstarter rather than only concept art, screenshots, short clip of characters walking in a nice environment, and the like 😉

@deity said in Feature Spotlight #5 - Character Creation, Attributes And Resting:

why did you go for only perception instead of having a wistom stat? was it that accuracy is much stronger of a thing to have compared to other stats?

If you're talking Wisdom in the D&D sense, Perception becomes a better name for it too if you cut off the role-playing side of it 😉

@kralith said in Feature Spotlight #5 - Character Creation, Attributes And Resting:

Or better asked, is it counting as Resting, if you are in a Tavern or Friends Mansion or at a Fire and do some Social Roleplaying?

Hmm, I don't really get the question. Resting is specific mechanic involving re-assigning your attribute points, choosing what spells to memorize, and recovering your health. If you want to roleplay before or after doing it... Why not?

@vengu said in Feature Spotlight #5 - Character Creation, Attributes And Resting:

Is it possible to go beyond the attribute caps through the talent tree?

It is, but the maximum an attribute can reach is 25, be it all Natural Score (base stats + talents) or thanks to temporary modifiers.

@logain said in Feature Spotlight #5 - Character Creation, Attributes And Resting:

What does it take to 'set up a temporary campfire' and how fast does that work?

We haven't defined that exactly yet - but it takes a while, both to gather the resources and to craft what's needed... It's not something you're meant to do every day

@esher said in Feature Spotlight #5 - Character Creation, Attributes And Resting:

Can't wait for the next spotlight I suppose Demons and Beastmen have less Creation Points due to their affinity with an attribut ?

      Indeed!

@lovechildbell said in Feature Spotlight #5 - Character Creation, Attributes And Resting:

kinda a shame to see that humans are a generic jack of all trades

Attribute-wise, perhaps, but don't forget that Humans have access to technology - which impacts building, crafting and combat as well. That's something other races don't have an it's a huge characterization points

@vvolfsong said in Feature Spotlight #5 - Character Creation, Attributes And Resting:

With intelligence being important for every class, starting with -2 is a pretty big deal that will cost you points. Other races can afford to ignore their negative modifiers if they make a character that plays to their strengths, but that won't really be an option for Udoadra. Their -2 will feel like a tax penalty that you're forced to deal with. Not to mention it labels them as a "dumb" race, which if seldom fun for the player.

Urgh, I just realized a bit of text went missing from the article (even tho it was explained in the example) - I just fixed it.

The table you're referring to shows cap variations, not bonuses/maluses. It means Udoadra can get their INT up to 16 instead of 18, they don't start with -2!

@vvolfsong said in Feature Spotlight #5 - Character Creation, Attributes And Resting:

Based of the descriptions for the stats, I would assume that charisma synergizes with intelligence for combat purposes (psychic damage)?

No, the assumption is quite wrong, sorry. Charisma serves a very different purpose from Intelligence, and we don't expect players to generally raise one if they raise the other.

@vvolfsong said in Feature Spotlight #5 - Character Creation, Attributes And Resting:

And finally, it makes no sense to me that Chadra gets a -1 while Udoadra gets a -1 and a -2 when they have the same number of positive modifiers. What was your process for deciding the modifiers for each race?

The table (and the article) was focused on attributes, but there's more than that to a race. Beastmen for instance can turn into their Primal Form, through which they gain unique modifiers and abilities - and that changes by family... so if you see one race having worst cap modifiers, it means they have advantages elsewhere 😉

    • RE: Clarification on the target audience

Thanks for starting this thread @Logain, we've been following it with a lot of interest. I see it mostly evolved into a PvP vs PvE discussion, which seems to be very frequent on the forums these days - so I'll address that specifically.

We are deeply convinced we can make the PvE and PvP crowds coexist in Fractured. In fact, we could call that one of the design pillars of the game itself!

Historically, several MMOs just launched separate servers with different rulesets to address the issue. Others have gone for a level-base split - low level areas are protected, high level areas feature FFA PvP (perhaps with some mid-ground in between). Albion Online is a good example of the latter.

The Albion approach helps with new player retention, but in the end if you hate PvP you're going to quit, since you can only progress up to a point.

In Fractured, if you like only PvE, you have a home for yourself (Arboreus) that features areas that are entirely PvE-only, and the rest where hostile PvP is still seriously restricted. You won't get murdered when you're a new player, and you'll be largely able to avoid it after and still progress, since resources on Arboreus are not weaker nor stronger than in Syndesia or Tartaros - they're just different.

Of course, I realize this answer is not explaining much, so it might be a good thing to anticipate the Spotlight on the justice system and PvP rules (which is already planned), since I can't explain it all in just one forum post.

That being said, Fractured is still a sandbox MMO - you won't have a questline to follow, you won't be spoon-fed the content of the game, crafting, trading and building are a huge part of the Fractured experience - easily more than PvE, if one wants to - and so on. If someone is looking for the new WoW, he won't find it here

We'll announce it in Autumn perhaps. Chances for it to be earlier, I'd say around zero. To be later, we hope low too!

@ozimandius said in What type of animals/what beastiary will be in the game?:

I imagine Syndesia will be very Earth-like in what fauna and flora will be present, but what about on Arboreous and Tartaros? Will there be imps on Tartaros, and will there be Earth animals like tigers on Arboreous?

Tartaros is a barren planet, so you should expect various kinds of deserts mostly (rocky, sand, semi-arid, coastal, cold), plus some regions a little better off due to rivers and oasis. It's inhabited by the animals you can find in such locations on Earth, plus several families of dangerous, demonic creatures, and other horrors.

Arboreus features the Earth-like animals you can find in jungles, swamps and different kinds of forests - so yes, tigers are included. As for fantasy creatures, Arboreus is an overgrown world, and massive size is going to be one of the distinctive features of the beasts that inhabit it

@Specter so the other guy is right, there's no point in discovering all spells especially those who requires your low attributes.

Spells don't require attributes to be used - their effectiveness is influenced by them! So, for instance, your heavy STR / CON based character can use all the INT-influenced spells in the game he has learnt - they're just going to be less effective.

      will stats have a cap?
If 50 (random number) is the cap then we can find different routes to it. otherwise we'll just stack 1 or 2 stats for the most benefit.

The cap on the final value of each attribute is 25 - even if you try stacking buffs from spells, potions and all, you can't get above that

And on a side note, even if the cap wasn't there, trust me that it'd be really hard to see characters with 25+ on an attribute. If you have a natural score (basic points + talents) of 20, it's already very unlikely you can reach 25 with temporary bonuses like the aforementioned spells and potions.

@morridin said in Race and Attribute Points:

So humans having no affinity are stuck at the general cap of 18 in all their attributes and thus miss out on getting any of the special bonuses for getting an attribute to 20? Or are there equipment or consumables that can raise attributes? What about buffs or curses? Can they, semi-permanently, effect attributes?

Very nice question - I shall add the answer to the spotlight itself.

All the things you've mentioned can raise attributes, but to get the level 20 bonus, you need a Natural Score of 20. The Natural Score is determined by your base score, plus the points coming from talents. Because yes, each branch of the Talent Tree is linked to an attribute, and always contains talents that when assigned grant a max of +2 in that attribute.

So yes, humans can get to 20 too! 🙂

    • Feature Spotlight #5 - Character Creation, Attributes And Resting

      Hi everybody!

In the last Feature Spotlight, we’ve given you an overlook on the types of abilities available on Fractured and the Schools of Magic & Fighting that group them. In doing so, we’ve mentioned what attribute(s) influence the power of each school among the six available ones.

Today, we’re going to discuss each attribute in detail – and while we’re at it, how your choice of race and family can influence your attribute assignment decisions during character creation.

Last but not least, we will cover the missing bit of the Knowledge System – the Resting phase, through which the concept of “every day a new gameplay” comes to life.

Click here to read the journal

As always, let us know what you think about this new sneak peek and check out the end of the article to find out what we're covering next!
