Thanks for the nice offer @Thayn! Company finances are good enough to provide us with pizza and coffee though - for now, at least πŸ™‚ The best thing any supporter can do is actually to spread the word about Fractured and be there when Kickstarter arrives!

@esher said in Necromancy-How will this work ?:

@Prometheus Will there be some indications where we can find corpses to reanimate ? Because, if we must wait an ally or an eenemy to die, or to be in a cimetary or something like that, necromancy could be a little bit useless ^^

You'll have plenty of corpses to re-animate when you do PvE, don't worry πŸ™‚ If you get jumped by some enemies in PvP and you don't have a summon already, ok, you can't create one... but as I've said, Necromancy features a lot more other than summons!

As for Conjuration, you can't do things like summoning an actual piece of rock from a random part of the world, nope πŸ™‚

@Benseine you can, but it doesn't interfere with looting

@Vengu you obviously can't control another player eheh, but that doesn't mean re-animating a human, demon or beastman is the same thing as re-animating a monster πŸ˜‰

Hello, I know the title should be the last thing to ask, but ive been fairly active, making sure to keep up with reading the blog posts aswell as any newsletter that i get. For some reason though i was hit with the Daily Points nerf. Do you have to read every single newsletter? (I missed the very first one)

Hi @Diddykonga - as @Kralith said, yes, the change is for all accounts. What we meant is that new accounts can no longer get to level 10 automatically without doing anything, while old accounts could do (and did) so. Thanks for your support by the way! πŸ™‚

@apollo said in Feature Spotlight #4 - Skills Galore:

I'm really curious how this will all tie in with the crafting side. Can we expect to see similar skill progression there? Will we be able to do both simultaneously or will mastery require focus on one side. Some of the descriptions already show links to effects in crafting, but will crafters be required to go into those few offensive trees?

To put it briefly, the process of learning crafting recipes is close to ability learning - which was covered here. Therefore, just like with abilities, your character can learn any recipe in the game - you don't have to go into "trees"! We'll have a couple spotlights dedicated to crafting specifically in the future with everything explained in detail

@lukezamboni said in Feature Spotlight #4 - Skills Galore:

you have some skills exclusive to this combination which could be shooting 4 arrows at the same time from your instrument

There are abilities meant to be used only when holding one or more specific types of objects - but I'm afraid you can't "combine abilities" to create new ones, if that's what you're asking

@holya said in Feature Spotlight #4 - Skills Galore:

Hey @Prometheus , so it might be a bit early to start talking about balance but I really feel like wind strike is overpowered.
Invocation in general is bad, but you have to invest so little into wind strike that it's super overpowered when other classes spend the minimum knowledge requirements to obtain it, and get nothing else from invo.

Ahahah πŸ˜„ Luckily Fractured won't be plagued by the several core design shortcomings we had to put up with on Linkrealms πŸ˜‰

@logain said in Feature Spotlight #4 - Skills Galore:

'Mage has a 'Magical Strike' spell, which deals 5 damage to a target in front of it,
Warrior has a 'Fist Strike' ability, which deals 5 damage to a target in front of it.'
That would be 'two different' abilities to learn, but they are exact 'game mechanical' clones of each other (deal x amount of damage to target on position y), despite the different name and graphic.

Eheh ok, sorry, now I get it. We'll try to avoid this as much as possible, but examples like the one you've just made might and will happen. Notice however that even if the two abilities you mentioned had the same overall effect ("e.g. cone damage in front of you"), they could differ in many other ways: width and length of the cone, casting time, mana cost, type of damage dealt, interruptable or not, total damage, single damage or repeated, channeling or not, stacking with STR or INT... and the list could go on. Enough parameters to make them both relevant in different builds and contexts

@tuffs said in Feature Spotlight #4 - Skills Galore:

omfg... if I understood the right way, I can't wait to see how a fire ball or wathever the other spell you're using, will work when it's raining/snowing or at any of the other atmospheres of the game's world πŸ˜„

      You did! πŸ˜„

@30Thrd thanks for the feedback, that's always appreciated, even more when it's so gently put  A question for you since you've mentioned PoE. In PoE, you can zoom in very close to your character. What type of zoom you need for immersion purposes? As for the animations, don't worry - game balancing will come later on, nothing in those clips is final in that regard. That summoning ability you've seen is a Channeling spell though - they have longer casting times and can be easily interrupted. It's what makes them hard to use - that's not the only one!

@vs21314 said in Feature Spotlight #3 - The Knowledge System:

And they say you wont unlock them from grinding the same thing, but I feel like in the end there isn't much difference from grinding the same thing to grinding quest to quest or area to area. So its still going to be grinding either way.

Well, that depends on your definition of grinding I guess. To us, repeating the same action at the same location (e.g. farming a mob camp for hours) to accomplish something (e.g. leveling up) is "grinding", and gets us bored quickly. Having to do several different actions at different location - including exploration, crafting, PvE, gathering - is not really a "grind" - and you can even unlock abilities while doing something related to a totally different objective πŸ™‚

Hi @speeebot - that's actually a good question. We don't have a video trailer yet, so I think the best way for now is to point them to our home page. There's a short description of Fractured as a whole at the top, plus all its main features below, also briefly summarized!

Hi skinzed, Conjuration can do that, but teleporting on Fractured is quite limited. Check out the end of this journal for more info on teleportation and travel in general!

    • RE: Necromancy-How will this work ?

Hi @Neuromant! In general, you can't summon with Necromancy like you can with Conjuration. You need a corpse to re-animate, or a even a mechanical construct to give "life" to (we've been a bit lazy in the video eheh). There are exceptions to this rule, but only a couple. Anyway, don't forget that Necromancy features a lot more than that - curses and blood magic are also very significant!

@Thayn we'll have a Spotlight dedicated to crafting, as @Vengu mentioned, and it would take a little too long to reply here eheh. Suffices to say, you'll definitely be able to play as a crafter only and your role will be pivotal in any guild / group.

@Dagimir definitely - not only because of the crafting system, but also given how important travel is in Fractured - check out the last paragraphs here!

@lukezamboni said in Is it possible do learn and use different types of paths/guild trees at the same time?:

are stronger skills locked behind weaker ones? if not we won't feel like it is worth it to invest in one tree instead of being a do-it-all character.

Hi Luke  I think this question of yours implies a little misunderstanding on the role of the Talent Tree and Abilities / Schools. As you've mentioned in your following post, the Talent Tree is indeed quite PoE-like and only provides passive bonuses - you don't unlock/learn abilities there, that's a whole separate matter. It's all explained quite in detail here! So, to reply your questions:

      • No, we're not planning to force you to learn abilities in order, like "fireball > fire storm > meteor". Your character can learn all the abilities in the game, with some being harder because of generally more complex/time consuming requirements or because of your alignment and planet (thus your race).
      • In the Talent Tree, it's definitely a good thing to focus on one or two branches - all six doesn't sound good, even if you've unlocked all the 50 talent points  Anyway, don't forget that you can re-assign your talents every time you take a Resting phase, it's not a semi-permanent decision like PoE. You're meant to re-build your character way more often on Fractured - in this respect, Fractured is closer to a MOBA, where you can "change hero" before a match.
      • There is progression - learning abilities is a kind of progression and it's very important in Fractured, and so is gaining Knowledge Points -> unlocking Talent Points.

    • RE: Hey guys, can somebody explain allignments?

Hi @Nitek! Lawful / Neutral / Chaotic is a personal choice to signal your attitude to other players and role-play (following the D&D canon) - it's not planned for it to have actual consequences in the game. Good / Neutral / Evil instead does have real consequences - you can find out more in the thread @Vengu pointed to, plus here and in a future spotlight dedicated to the Criminal System

@33hp said in Feature Spotlight #4 - Skills Galore:

Will the abilities directed at the nps (without harming them) increase or decrease the relationship to the applying (to the next one who enters with him in the dialog)? Or raising your stats.

Sorry but I didn't really understand what you're asking 😞

@logain said in Feature Spotlight #4 - Skills Galore:

Having hundreds of REALLY different abilities seems rather ambitious. The ones you presented there seem more like the common average ones you find in every game, featuring much the same effects with a different name and graphics. It's going to be interesting to see if you can really make them different enough.

Hold on - what we meant in the Spotlight is that each ability should be as unique as possible within Fractured - for instance, there shouldn't be a "fireball" and a "major fireball" that is just better than the lesser version. Of course many abilities will resemble those you can find in other RPGs or MOBAs - buffs, debuffs, shields, beams, rays, projectiles, summons, mobility, status effects - they're some of the elements we're working with, and they're all well-tested concepts. It's the Knowledge System (character creation / progression / re-building) and the interactions with the environment that make Fractured different in this case - other than the fact that there's no real sandbox MMO with ARPG combat out there yet

@Benseine you can found a city or conquer it with your guild. We're going to cover this in detail soon in one of the upcoming Feature Spotlights - but some info have already been listed here. To reply the other questions:

      • Yes, marketplaces are local.
      • Guild quests are not planned as of today.
      • You can start settlements only at fixed locations - the development of the city is totally free though. Housing not connected to guild settlements is also free.

I was thinking, as Christmas is coming, and all the games I play are preparing events for this occasion, will there be this kind of event ?

For sure we'll host events for the major festivities, and they'll be properly themed too! As for events related to the lore, don't forget that game time is much faster than real time (1 real-life month = 1 in-game year), so something like that would take place every month... Which is actually not a bad idea, we'll consider
