It seems pretty clear the majority of posts to most threads contribute nothing. I'm not going to say it's necessarily a problem, even if I personally find it extremely distasteful, but it's definitely spam.
Edit: Not to mention wtf is up with all this necroing?

Posts in the Welcome section don't hurt anyone  Necroing on the other hand is quite annoying, I've noticed that happening. @Specter will keep an eye on it in the future.

Given the above answer, my understanding is that there won't ever be a fee for additional game content beyond the initial purchase. No expansions, no DLCs, no item shop. Am I reading that right?

@Vengu there will be an item store selling cosmetic enhancements (skins for your character, equipment, pets, etc) - that is pretty much sure. No expansions, DLCs and other forms of content restriction.

Btw. is there an easy way to see how much daily points one received (other than manually tracking points or looking it up in the DB like you)? Wouldn't that be a nice 'quest' to add for fast access?

There isn't for now but there will be a few additional iterations of The Foundations so we might sneak that in

Is that Discord "officially" official, i.e. in the sense that the code of conduct should apply there the same way it applies on the forums?

      Yes, it is

In that very context, I'm curious if the other races could benefit from human technology as well? And if so, what mechanics would keep people from using 'secondary accounts' for that purpose.

      No, they can't

(...)time of the server is UTC. Daily quests reset at midnight(...)

Is that true for the 'daily points' as well? I didn't seem to get any on a 'second day' (if 00:00 UTC is considered a new day).

It is. You signed up yesterday, and you've received 15 daily points today - we've just checked. Everything looks fine

@Garlic we've been doing some server work yesterday evening and this morning which entailed some downtime, could be related to that. You should have received them now though.

    • RE: Traveling, veichles & mounts

Hi @Hellmaster91 - plenty of lovely questions but I'm afraid it's really too early for us to reply to most of them.

Mounts will exist, but they're one of the very few things with core mechanics not fleshed out yet.

Vehicles the way (I think) you're imagining them won't exist - Fractured will have carts, carriages and the like to transport goods, but not a "bus" driven by a player carrying other players eheh. That'd be a really huge feature to develop that wouldn't add much to gameplay, so it's something we can't afford as a (relatively) small team :slight_frown:

    • RE: Forum Chat

@Casgadom the forum already has a "regular" chat system - it's the one @HolyAvengerOne has pointed out, you access it with the button in the top-right corner of the screen  If you're talking of a "shoutbox", that won't happen because of the reasons I've explained above - and indeed you generally don't find it in official MMO forums. In fact, I don't recall seeing a large forum with a shoutbox feature in years.

If you want a more structured chat instead of the simple one NodeBB offers, with different channels for different languages and topics, voice channels, we have a Discord channel!

@HolyAvengerOne implementing a system as wide and powerful as Discord (which, on top of the above, includes user roles, advanced moderation and anti-spam options, and much more) in our NodeBB forum would probably be the biggest waste of time for our devs that I can think of 😄

    • RE: I'm just a curious MMO Head

@Mikey14117 the are plenty of titles that inspired us to make Fractured. In the MMO department I can name a few:

      • Ultima Online for the freedom and the emotions given by exploration.
      • Shadowbane for its town building and conquest mechanics.
      • Haven & Hearth for its survival side.
      • Guild Wars 1 / 2 for its character building.
      • Vanguard for its race characterization.
      • Talking modern stuff, I could name Albion Online - or better, its dev studio Sandbox Interactive.
      • etc etc etc.

Outiside of the MMO world, classic single player Action RPGs for the exciting and skill-based combat - you name them, there are so many! Tabletop games (D&D above all) and classic RPGs games (BG, Planescape) also inspired us for their character attributes, styles of magic, alignment...

      I could go on forever.

Of course, most of the games I've mentioned are just inspirations - don't start thinking Fractured has, say, survival elements as hardcore as H&H - that's not the case 😄

In the end, we've felt that in the sandbox MMO world there was still a lot of room for innovation and I hope what we've revealed so far and the future spotlights will convey Fractured's potential in full!

    • RE: Spying other races

@Karuro the point number 3 @Holya made is pretty much the answer. Guilds, alliances and reigns will make plans, not "races"

Of course, the possibility that a race-wide alliance is formed to serve a specific purpose in a certain moment in time is not to be excluded - but that's all emergent gameplay, and anyway it will be the (hypothetical) alliance being "infiltrated", not the "race"

    • RE: Will there be Roleplay?

@Cysan we're quite sure Arboreus and the beastman race will be the roleplayers' favorite due to the peaceful/cooperative environment. Things will be harder on Syndesia, but I fully expect there will be roleplaying communities there too. The size of the world and the importance of travel will definitely be of help in this regard indeed. The fact every decently developed town (in all the 3 planets) will have a public inn will be appreciated too - although the inn is technically there for other gameplay-related reasons 😉

    • RE: Authenticator

      @vengu said in Authenticator:

Will we be able to protect our accounts with an authenticator? I assume so but I just need to be sure.

You will  We'll implement it when the first alpha tests get live and account stealing will sadly become a real risk.

Of course, we're not talking of the Fractured user database being hacked as we're using the best protections available. Plus, even if it that happened, passwords are stored hashed with slow algorithms and unique salts - brute-forcing them is technically impossible.

The scenario we're talking about it that of a player whose account got compromised on other web portals (that got hacked and didn't store passwords safely) and who used the same password for Fractured - something that is out of our control and that only an authenticator can indeed stop.

That being said, there's another way you anyone can minimize that risk - by checking out all your email addresses here to see if they've been involved in a security breach, and if so, change all the passwords that you're reusing.

    • RE: Artifacts and Technology

Very interesting question, @BillyWaterlow! We have several Feature Spotlights scheduled before the one dedicated to technology, so I can't reveal much today. I'll drop some hints:

      • The human world has a "steampunk" setting, so you should expect machinery far beyond those of a medieval world. You should imagine the societies of beastmen and demons being close to ancient ones, while humans live in a feudal society with 1800-like tech. Quite of a daring concept, I know, but it's part of the whole idea of "three races, three gameplays". We want Fractured's three planets / races / societies to feel really worlds apart.
      • Machinery will make human NPC production buildings (erected in player-run towns) far more effective than those of beastmen and demons.
      • Technological implants can empower human bodies too, yes!

On a side note, it's true that humans have unrestricted alignment, but they don't have access to more schools of magic and/or combat compared to the other races - it's just their characters being more balanced. The "tech" provides different advantages - the ones I've hinted to above

@knulp said in Buy to play, but...:

@vengu that sounds nice, i hope so!
I wanted to know if they will make a VIP system, like albion or tree of savior. I dont think its a bad idea, but dont make it overpower, giving a little % in gathering would be nice.

It's a decision for a distant future, so it's impossible for us to give a reliable answer now. It's likely we'll consider it, but if it ever makes it into the game, it surely won't be "overpowered"

    • RE: Weapon and Spells related?

@frost said in Weapon and Spells related?:

Hi hi 🙂 So here I am, again 😛 , to make one more quick question.

Will the weapons be somewhat related to the spells/skills you use?

What I mean is, for example, will we be able to use all spells/skills with any kind of weapon or will there be specific weapons to specific spells/skills? (ex: use a sword slash with a staff, ahah)
      Waiting for answer ^^

      Best regards,
      Frost. 🙂

The second option, quite obviously 😉 If you learn to perform, say, a Whirlwind with swords, then when resting you add it to the set of prepared spells/abilities (= your hotbar), that ability will be usable only if you're holding a sword. If you're not, it will be greyed out

@grimalkin said in Types of armor?:

What are the differences between the different armor types? Do the heavier ones encumber you and make you slower, etc?

Resistance to physical damages, magical damages, and encumberment are all factors indeed. Plus, armors can be crafted in different ways to be more or less fitting to different temperatures, which feeds into the whole travelling concept

@mikey14117 said in Expansions and future content:

I get that this game is already different from basically everything, but how will future content release? Expansions like every other game or will you guys find a cool ass way to do it? Either way I'd love to know just to get a vibe of things!

Eheh we're years away from full release so it's really hard to tell right now. All I can say it's that it's unlikely we'll do actual "expansions" as in "massive updates released every couple years". Following our agile development processes, we'll probably try to release a minor patch every couple weeks and a large content update every 2-3 months.
