Almost all existing bounty hunters had 10,000 Karma already* and getting there doesn't take that long. The requirement is there to prevent players from switching from PK to BH easily. The criminal side hasn't been really given much either, since most of the dedicated PKs sit at -10,000 Karma or close and it's much faster to get there now. That being said, notwithstanding how much the criminals cried like the jail and BH systems were the end of the world, they have done little to keep criminal activity under control, so further measures will be required. *there was a bug with Karma not growing when killing mobs with 100% knowledge. It's been fixed and the Karma of all players with positive Karma has been tripled to account for the losses. This wasn't mentioned in the patch log.

      @Rife I support "criminals" being bounty hunters/hitmen/whatever; contracts should not be an inherently noble function. I should be able to play as a scheming politician who hires a notorious PKer to gank a merchant caravan or some such; there should be a market for such things.

      @fr4me01 it's a PvP game, of course, in fact you can do PvP. It's also a game where, in the human world, you get punished if caught being an evil PvPer, so yes, you get punished for doing PvP. Differently from other games, in Fractured being evil comes with a cost, you must be willing to pay it. You kill a person every week? You won't have so bad a karma to get punished much. You kill tenths of people on a daily basis? When you get caught you serve your time in punishment. It's not like your killing didn't destroy hours and days spent by other players and it's not like wild PvP is the main core concept of Fractured, that's it. If you don't address the problem you'll end up with Arboreus, Tartaros and Tartaros Two. Chosing to be good has rewards. Chosing to be bad has risks. You decide. Plus, I've never said everything is perfect as is, and I'm not in favor of a system that prevents you from playing at all, which is way somewhere in some topic I've proposed some sort of forced labor mechanic, allowing the jailed evildoer to play somehow while serving its sentence.

      Again, it is an Alpha and such problems are expected to happen. Thank you for your apologies, but don't worry, i am sure, the most Alpha Player will know about the possibility of technical issues. Cross my fingers, that the cause of it will get discovered and doesn't hit again in later testphases of beta or in release.

      @Prometheus Awesome, thanks for the clarification. We were just discussing it in our Guild server and were confused but it makes sense. Good to know if I want to join my guildies when I jump on late that I don't need the party invite just need to meet up.

      Thank you for the update it is impressive that you are keeping everyone updated as soon as there is a problem. Don't stress if the servers go down we understand that this is going to happen this is why it is an alpha test. I have enjoyed playing so far and look forward to the day it has its release.

      Please also note that PvP mode exists only to avoid damaging potential targets accidentally with directional abilities / projectiles and AOE effects. Once you attack someone, your victim will enter PvP mode as well. Whether a player is a potential target or not depends only on your alignment and the other player’s alignment, as explained in the first paragraph of this article. that's going to piss off a whole bunch of the population when the game is released. Warcraft had to change their system because AOE was causing a person to flag and was then killed by a person who intentionally flagged for PvP.
