@PeachMcD said in Ok, Bought the game after a 2 min video on youtube; was it the right choice?:

😆 😆 to be brutally honest, I bought in one night after more bourbon than usual.

I'm totally poor, and/but I wanted the devs to know there were players out here so sick to death of the 'freemium' model that we'd spend $75 for even a CHANCE to play a game like Fractured.

Not, I'll freely admit, my wisest financial decision.

There's a lot worse things you could have bought while drunk. This is a risk but at least you didn't pee it away on a gambling site.🗑

An early purchase is very risky but if no one bought in at this early stage then it wouldn't exist. Unless they funded it themselves through loans etc but that's not always a good thing to do even if they could find a willing lender. That or join with a publisher that potentially ruins the game.

Thank you for taking the risk and supporting the game at a high level.

      BOOM! 😲

"As a result, we will be changing our launch date - and correspondingly, our final beta test - to spring 2021."

      Release update

      Thank you for the information.

And now a little vent: I finally pre-purchased it a few days ago with the Steam £5 off a £30+ game expecting it to be the greatest discount I could get before the release as It's only 11 days until the beta should have started with release a month after that. I was looking forward to it even buying the steelbook to have something physical. They already delayed it once. The first delay was understandable 😷 and not too long. But now a whole years delay?!

Maybe it's for the best in the long run but If it wasn't Amazon I'd be seeing it as one of those games that never comes out of early access and closes down quickly.

    • RE: Open Alpha 2 Weekend & Test Extension

I'd be very suspicious if everything went well in an Alpha test.🕵

I'd expect a Beta to run reasonably well but Alphas are often POC in my experience. That's Proof Of Concept and Piece Of Crap.😉

To me, it's a privilege to see the game at this stage and we can look back and remember how it's improved.

    • RE: Rhykker Mention of "Pay for Convenience"

I'd rather not have any non-cosmetic paid services here because it isn't a free to play game. Exclusive cosmetic stuff is bad enough (unless Dynamight gold can be earned in game?) but understandable to keep the game getting support.

It it needs an ingame store then a little discreet icon is fine. I really don't want to be advertised at constantly like some games do. I loved the beta of a game called City of Steam but it launched with an asian publisher and constantly demanded feeding, like a greedy pet. They apparently separated from the publisher (I'd left before that) to try to survive but It was ruined beyond redemption by then and it closed down. They might have made money in the short term with their greed but wouldn't they have been better off thinking longer term? It's that situation that puts me off paying for an early version of a game.

From what I can tell, Dynamight aren't greedy money-grabbing scum. The Foundation is good evidence of that. I hope they can stay classy and implement any pay for convenience features in a non-obtrusive way.

Disapointed news but in other hand understandable, it is not reasonabale to release unfinished product. However, a year delay tells how much there is still to be done, balance and fix.

I'd expect there to be only small issues to fix when they're this close to release. Then they suddenly realised it needs another year, a day after the Steam offer expires.🤔

    • RE: Is this game using these Unity Asset Store assets and why?

It makes sense to use graphical placeholders at this stage while they work on the mechanics. Standard practise.

Now If they became like Shroud of the Avatar and sold expensive houses that are from the Unity Asset Store then that'd feel shady to me.

If it's too difficult than not many people would do it and it's be a waste of resources implementing it. Too easy and it'd be meaningless. Good luck finding the right balance devs. 😜

    • RE: B2P vs F2P

A good aspect of F2P is 0 barrier to entry but once you're in prepare to be bombarded with requests for money. And either progress slowly or open your wallet and pay the often stupid prices. Their whole gameplay is built around paying them or suffer the restrictions. Why would you want that if you have the choice to pay a relatively small upfront cost?

@Psymantis said in Roadmap To Alpha 2 - Test 3:

Having to recover your items from your body sounds frustrating as a solo player(...)

As @Mudz mentioned it at least adds a minimum amount of challenge, but even if you fail at recovering your items, unless you have a fully enchanted set, it should take less than 10 minutes to simply craft the same items again? You likely would even have a replacement set ready in your local bank account, as it is currently rather easy to craft the same set twice or thrice instead of once (ingredients are rather easy to gather).

Cool, I was looking at it from the perspective of other games where it's not so easy to re-equip.

Plus I got lost when playing the alpha and had an enemy bear camp my recovering body. It took a while before I was far enough away to escape. Then I met a bunch of wisps and treants while trying to find my way back and it was even worse than the bear. Eventually I was teleported back to the starting area but it bugged out and I couldn't move. The UI and game then bugged out when I tried to switch characters to fix it. It reminds me of the early days of World of Warcraft. 😜

    • RE: Mount conundrum....

In the Elder Scrolls games the form of a Khajiit depends on the phase of the moon when they're born. Some are humanoid but others resemble feral cats and are sometimes used for mounts. They can talk and are just as intelligent as their humanoid peers. You could have different members of a family born as different forms. Try explaining that to non-Khajiit.

They have this in the Elder Scrolls Online. The original Quake had npcs that were hostile to each other as well. No complicated ecology needed. Just have them interact in some way.

    • RE: PvE Planet with PvP

@Farlander said in PvE Planet with PvP:

Not all pvp is the same. There is a huge difference between wars/tournaments/duels and ganking/ambushing.

An optional extra for those who want it versus being unable to leave a safe zone without being ganked. It's the forced PvP I hate. I don't care how much PvP options exist as long as they're completely optional.

There's the demon planet for those who want unrestricted PvP and the human planet for semi-restricted PvP. Let's keep all* non-consensual PvP off the beast planet and solve any economic (or other) problems a different way please.

*maybe if a demon appears a beastman could attack them and trigger PvP but with no looting.

    • RE: Tech Tree, Marketplace & Money For Dynamight

As long as you don't team up with a pay-to-win publisher and turn the game into a microtransaction-infested casino. Or get tied to a publisher that adds nothing then closes the servers after a year or less. I hope you choose...wisely.

    • RE: What's The Stance on "Foul Language"?

An optional profanity filter is my preference.

0 censorship = you know what a cesspit some people would turn it into. World of Warcraft Barrens chat is as close as I've got to unregulated chat and that was mostly harmless Chuck Norris jokes and posting the word "anal" or "Harry Potter and the" along with a linkable thing like an achievement or skill.

Over censorship = people are afraid to chat because there's a too-sensitive chatbot or over-zealous moderator waiting to pounce on anything that they don't like whatever the context (Warframe).
