Basically every full loot pvp game is a niche game and most sanboxes are too, so you have a double niche game here 😜

This, and on top of that, some people advocate for basically no grind. Is there even any successful mmorpg without grind out there?

      @asspirin
I played Albion long term and the devs are really active. They expanded the BZ, improved HG, added cgvg, portals to royals, cool season rewards, monthly challenges, solo and 5people party random dungeons (last I heard RD for big parties were planned), smaller castles (forgot their exact names), mount skins. The latest update finally introduces hideouts and a bunch of other things, clicky.
Before the introduction of random dungeons, the game was very grindy indeed (party because it was hard to find a spot to farm), but now I think the grind is about right. The reason why I quit playing is that if you wanna be in a guild, you have to join warcamps at least a few times a week. Sometimes people attacked and it was fun, but most of the time you'd just waste 1h waiting and riding horses. My problem is that I can only play about 2h in the weekdays and it wasn't fun.

People quit Albion because of many reasons, but surely not because of safe zones and full loot pvp 🙂

I didn't say people only quit Albion for those reasons, I said that full loot pvp is one of the reasons why so many quit within a few hours of gameplay. How did I conclude that? When it became f2p, the top 2 complaining reasons were the lag and full loot pvp. Also, I have a very hard time believing there is a considerable amount of long timers who play in blue zones.
The point I was trying to make is not that full loot pvp makes people quit, but that it appeals to a small percent of players, making it a niche game.

And the arena is all but fair, there isn't even a matchmaking

Lack of matchmaking is the only thing you can complain about. But then again, arena was never popular, so a matchmaking system would just raise the waiting time from 10min to god knows how long. How would this improve things?

Because dota2 is a completely different genre, with a different appeal.

      • it has "vertical" progression. You need to buy items X and Y and then combine them into item Z, which can become item M. Remove gold from this process and allow everyone to start with whatever items they want and the game becomes a lot less interesting.
      • you go straight to action. There is no downtime - you start the game and a few minutes later you are in a match. In a mmo however, you waste a lot of time by finding a party, deciding on a farming spot, traveling to the said area while praying you don't get ganked and so on.
      • it is generally balanced. The game makes sure everything is as fair as possible: you always fight exactly 5 people, everyone starts with the same resources and there's even a matchmaker who tries to find opponents of the same skill level as you. In a mmo however, that's not in the realm of possibilities. When you step out of the city gates, god knows who you run into.
      • the games last half an hour and then you start over
      • it doesn't try to simulate a working economy

In most of the mmos I played, they kept adding end-game content...
      Anyway, to address your points

      • there is almost no pvp on furries planet and full-loot pvp on the others (you can see how many quit Albion just for this)
      • people claim that there won't be different pve difficulties and a new character is able to farm everywhere
      • again, doesn't appeal to everyone

So, if the release will be how people on the forums claim, it will be a really niche game in a genre that isn't at it's peak popularity right now. I still don't understand what is the target demographic for furries planet in these circumstances.

PS: Albion has a very fair 5v5 arena that nobody plays other than doing the dailies for the swiftclaw skin (I haven't played in the last 6 months, but I doubt anything changed in this regard).
PPS: I pay attention to the story of whatever game I'm playing because that's why I play RPGs, but I understand that I'm probably in the minority. Another minority is achievement hunters. 🙂

The game will be A LOT more grindy than most people on the forums assume or it will fail within a couple of month after release because... what will people on Arboreus do after they unlock almost everything in the first 1-2 weeks? What will keep people pve-ing long term?

Enjoy the sunshine, have some tails tales around the fireplace (RP) and kick the shit out of those invaders if the time has come. Besides that we have the dungeons, fishing, maybe become an abomination.

      And unlock 400 * 3 levels of skill in 1-2 weeks ?

Not everyone is a completionist and if your gamble is that RP will keep people playing, you appeal to a very niche kind of player from a genre that is almost a niche itself.

Regarding passive healing based on damage done, I said this about that in my first post:
"As long as they keep it a static formula and not "you gain x% life for all damage you do, ever" then it should be fine."
This kind of healing ALWAYS becomes broken.

      Why?

Regarding your comment of attack speed - two people with the same 2H weapon, the one with attack speed is still very likely to have the advantage 🙂

Again, how did you conclude that? If you have 2 characters with the same total of points, but different distribution, the one with lower attack speed with have the points put in another stat. Maybe it's HP/armor, which help him survive as a frontline. Maybe it's damage, which should give similar dps.

I'd argue that all of them are PvE-oriented, but either way Diablo2 is a very bad example when it comes to pvp since it's very unbalanced and has a handful of viable builds. I mean, Hammerdin is probably the strongest build in the game (in the sense that it can solo well and be a very strong pick for pvp against everyone but characters specially designed to fight him). Then you have builds like the foh (charger also works, but it's harder), which can 1shot almost everyone. Besides, I don't see how this settles the attack speed / damage burst discussion since the strong characters in these games have both stats raised.

Sorry to necro this thread, but I didn't want to start a new one.

Anyway, I have some questions about the cosmetic items.

      • I read that they are bound to the account, so my guess is that dropping them on death or selling them it's impossible. Is that correct?
      • Can I use the same cosmetic item on 2 characters from my account in the same time?
      • There are some pets and decorations for sale right now. Will these be exclusive to early access, or they will remain in store when the game does live?

@Yitra said in How will be decided which group takes a farming spot on Arboreus (animal planet)?:

So basically, those things would be not acceptable in real life ( at least where I live), but fine in a game?
Seriously? I haven't been in PvP related games, but if this is the "standard" now. Those kids need a nose brain job or get out more often.

I was ganking in Albion with some guildmates when this guy comes naked on a cheap horse (he needed to change his portal lock and had to walk to the portal to do so). We killed him and I got the kill. He then pm'ed me explaining what he wants to do, asked that we don't kill him again and offered to pay 10x the price of a cheap horse for passage. I replied that it's not about the money, but about spreading the message that we own that area or some bullshit like that. He kept trying to cross the zone and we killed him every time (which I agree that is a bit toxic). Anyway, the next days he kept pm'ing everyone in my party telling how he will find us and gut us like fishes and bullshit like that. At this point the game was still b2p and he only had 6 characters (so it was to deal with), but about 2 months later the game went f2p and somehow he remembered about us and for a while I got so many pms from different characters that I deactivated my whisper channel entirely.
Anyway, the point is that this kind of people exist. However, I think the real-life threats and in-game threats should be treated differently because in the latter case it's basically just stupid kids whose mouths talk without their brains but are harmless otherwise.

Returning to the initial discussion, expecting GMs to do something about this situation is unreasonable. What we need is a way to dispute or secure farming spots.

Usually life leech for spells and physical damage are treated differently. Besides you compare a spell that is meant to replenish your HP while damaging the enemy to a feature that offers passive healing based on the damage done for melee weapons.

And no, combat doesn't always favor people with attack speed - if it worked that way, there was no point in 2h weapons. Replenishing a flat amount of HP per hit favors weapons with higher attack speed.

Anyone can pop a healing spell on their bar, and each spell is going to have 3 versions.

I'd be surprised if certain spells dont gain utility instead of damage type change, such as slows life steals burst in to dot

There are some restrictions. plate with magic, blunt weapons with bleeding dot.
And anyway, if you don't have a weapon with matk bonus, it makes little sense to have a healing spell unless it consumes very little mana. Now this raises the question of how will damage dealers will high matk be balanced if they can effectively use healing spells? The more I talk with you on the forums, the more I start to think that this is going to be the first game I switch from tank/mdps to nuker/necro.

@Razvan If i remember correctly, devs stated you can chain stuns... which is IMO broken as the first guy to land aoe stun in team vs team situation wins the fight for team (even if SAVES are taken into consideration).

In an aoe heavy game it's absolutely broken indeed.
On the other hand, maybe they plan to go oldschool and focus on single-target spells rather than aoe, since CC-chains are not as bad there.

Anyway, just like Jetah said, the devs should talk more about what they plan to do with the combat system. I'm mostly interested in: how fights will go? Big aoe CC and big aoe damage or single target CC on key people and focus fire? Do all CC always land or has a hit chance? Small healing over time or big burst heals? Single target or aoe heals? Do we have resurrects? What about buffers: in older MMOs most people had a buffer slave - will this be the case in Fractured as well?

FPS drop is cause by client's hardware (so, it can be solve by upgrading your PC or lowering graphics), while lag is caused by the server: think of games going f2p and getting a huge influx of players that the server can't handle. As a client, there's nothing you can do to make it better.

Well, they are too small to take a noticeable area off the screen, but you are right. 🙂
Anyway, I was just addressing the point raised by Farlander that extra cosmetic pets cause lag - it shouldn't be the case because adding a cosmetic pet only increases the size of sent packages by a tiny amount. Combat pets on the other hand...

I know, but for cosmetic pets the server only has to tell the client "player X has Y pet". The client will then assign for the pet a position near the player and generate actions for it (move around the player, do a certain animation bla bla). This means that if me, you and Farlander are on the same location, we can see each other's pets, but they might not be in the same place / do the same action on each of our screens. On the other hand, when it comes to combat pets, the server has to register and tell each client their exact location, action, HP etc.

@asspirin I haven't thought about crits and hit chance. Even if you find a correct mathematical balance between 1 bear and 3 wolves, if you scale up the number of pets (ex 100bears vs 300wolves), it will start to favor the wolves.

Having a big pet guarantees constant damage until he dies.
Having 3 small pets (with 1/3 HP and damage of the big one; same attack speed and armor) comes with the advantage already mentioned by you plus the fact that if one is CC'ed, the damage temporarily drops by 33% instead of 100%. However, they die a lot faster and when they are dead, the total damage output drops (a bear with 20% HP will still do full damage, but if you have 1 remaining dog, the total damage is only 33%). They are also vulnerable to aoe (the bear will take damage only once, but all 3 dogs will take damage in the same time).
