    • RE: Life leech on spells / enchants / buff abilities

      You are right that life leech is a an old and well incorporated concept in RPGs, but I feel it won't be so relevant here, unless it heals a considerable (broken) amount of HP per hit. Vamp/life leech made more sense in oldschool mmos because they were less aoe-heavy (which imo was more fun in pvp, but more boring in pve).

      PS: Since you mention CC-chains, I also want to know the dev's opinion on this matter. Same with damage reflect in aoe situations.

      @asspirin
      It's hard to judge fairly without being able to actually test stuff.
      It seems a bit excessive that CHA increases the number of combat pets, improves a type of damage and buffs CC, but this can be balanced. For example, the pets can have a full array of skills that can be used only if put in the summoner's skillbar. If you want your pets to be strong, you better fill the skillbar with a bunch of pet abilities and maybe a heal, some buffs and some CC. This also makes a summoner-type character more versatile than in other games - you can solo as a summoner, fight in small scale pvp as a full psychic mage, and (assuming that psychic damage won't do much instant damage) be a CC-heavy support in large scale pvp.

      PS: What's the point of summoning multiple pets if the more you have out, the weaker each individual one is? I think it should be more like a dog costs 1point, a wolf costs 4 points, a bear costs 10 points. At 20CHA you can have a maximum of 3 summons out with a total cost of 10 points.

      Life leech makes sense in a game like dota (where it adds strategy to the lanning phase) or single player rpg (where you don't have a healer with you), but not so much in a larger scale game such as Fractured which is supposed to be played in groups. To make solo viable, they could add a skill which consumes the body of a dead monster to recover HP/MP, but can only be used out of combat.

      It's been my experience that the more stuff on the screen the more lag. I would like to see pets that are cosmetic in nature be limited to 1 and pets that can actually do damage be limited as well. The more pets allowed to fight with you the more unbalanced it will be for every other class.

      The cosmetic pets will probably be on the client-side and won't affect lag.

      Cosmetic pets will probably be client-side because it's irrelevant if you see them at a different position than they actually are. How about the combat pets, as far as I understand it scales with CHA, so most people won't have 3 summons at once.

    • RE: How will be decided which group takes a farming spot on Arboreus (animal planet)?

      @Farlander
      In other games (and indeed human/demon planet) you can eventually fight people if you don't come to an agreement regarding the farming spots, but the way it looks now there's absolutely no option to do that in Arboreus. For example, 2 nukers can troll a full party farming in the top dungeon and there's absolutely nothing that party can do. One solution is to have instanced dungeons on Arboreus, which are accessible to non party members only during eclipses.
      Anyway, Albion has a similar problem in the non-pvp zones: most of the loot you get is from chests, which are guarded by bosses. It takes some time to open the chest and if you attempt to do it, the boss will attack and interrupt you. Some morons discovered that you can follow a party and open the chest while they are fighting the boss (

      ). Thankfully, only the new player areas are non-pvp in Albion and in other areas you could PK people who did that.

      Yes, but being related to the cow level (since you need Wirt's leg to open the portal), yet not intuitive makes it a good inside joke.

      i think we need a term for the 'pack' of them. I do like Murder (as in the crows).

      That a good input. I would rather suggest a "tristram" of furries, inspired by Diablo's

      @Jetah Ah, they start out as good already? In my head it made more sense to start out as neutral and become good after some PvE, but they probably want to completely rule out pvp on Arboreus (with very few exceptions).
      Still, as I understand, the furries and demons don't get heavy debuffs on human planet. If you have a group focused on becoming evil, it shouldn't be too hard of a task.

      Probably not very long since you have to PK people and most likely the penalty for that will be big on Arboreus.

      I am also very curious how PVP will work in Fractured.

      I am also very curious about it and I hope it doesn't follow the aoe-heavy trend.

      @Razvan please don't put albions crafting or tier system in comparsion to fractured, literally everything about it was pretty bad for a full loot pvp game, beside that your argument is valid 🙂

      I didn't mind the gear to be honest, but the bonus you got from spec and the amount of grind (pre random dungeons) was absurd.

      All this stuff you are talking about are not even on the devs table yet we need to get basics in game first party features combat needs lots of polishing. Housing ability to add others on it so there isn’t a million of them cluttering the world. Bunch more that are way more important that we’re brought up in bugs list during last test.

      I am pointing out the possibility of a frustrating flaw in the idea of Arboreus. I'm not saying they should think of a solution now, but there should be a way to dispute farming spots at release (and preferably that solution could be implemented and tested prior to that).

      Remember, you can loose your weapons by getting killed. So since wooden weapons are faster to craft, you will always craft those first, and use them each time after you die, until you can get your hands on metal again.

      So wooden weapons (even if weaker) will be constantly used. 🙂

      Have you played Albion? Nobody is using t1 items, no matter how poor they are, because in short time the economy reaches a point where everyone can afford mid-level items.

      regarding Arboreus invasions: For fun. I wouldn't mind risking inexpensive gear (think 5.1oc) for a chance to get good loot.
      regarding character development: Yes, but I said "new character" (as in alt), not "new player".
      Still, this game is targeted at mmorpg players, right? One of the big things that draws players to this kind of game is the sense of progress. It feel like it's a huge gamble if you make a mmorpg with very little character development. Then there's the fact that a bunch of ideas I see here look good on paper, but will turn out to be something else once they will be implemented in the game and people will abuse them. These 2 things drop my confidence in this project a bit.

      • abilities don´t have 3 lvls, but 3 variants (that don´t differ in strenght but effect)

      According to the wiki, " leveling up an ability increases its power – be it a stronger effect, increased duration, reduced cooldown, and more. However, they’re always minor differences, mostly interesting on a competitive level.". Even if it's a 10% increase in only one of those areas, if you account for the full bar of skills, the difference becomes significant (think of 100IP difference in Albion - it won't turn a bad player in a formidable adversary, but it makes the difference between 2 equally skilled players).

      Sure, it´s full loot, but then why would I walk around with weapons hitting like wet noodle

      If furries are invaded only a few times per month, in the invasion days they will probably not bring their best gear. Of course, I don't know how easy will be to replace top gear here, but I was thinking about something like being able to invade HCE in Albion a few times per month. If we could do that, I very much doubt they'd bring their top gear. =))

      This (hopefully) isn´t 24/7 grind/farm simulator like Albion (at least devs stated it). Equipment should be easily replacable.

      I think it will be grindy, but a maxed out character won't have the insane bonuses they do in Albion.
      Anyway, I agree that 20% is way too much. It's more than 2 tiers in Albion.

      @Jetah said in Enough attackers / defenders during eclipses:

      to me horizontal is any new player can win against a veteran if skill is the same. but an automatic 20% damage difference between the starter crafts and steel is just too much. now i'd play a test to actually see how bad that difference is but as asspirin mentioned it's much more than what you'd get with skills.

      What I don't understand is: if a new character can fight a seasoned character as equal, where is the progress / character development?

      Why can't you share mobs?

      Because I'm not a hippie. If I go to farming with my buddies, we will most likely try to do it in an efficient way which doesn't work well when other people are hitting the same mobs. I will probably not even have a character in Arboreus, but from my experience this is a topic worth talking about because a lot of people don't like "sharing mobs" and there doesn't seem to be a method to dispute the farming spots.

      @asspirin
      Yes, but "rich on resources" is a very vague statement. Besides, these PvE spots will probably be of different difficulties, drop different items etc, so inevitably some will be very popular and others not so much.
      And I hope huge guilds who hold monopolies over huge areas won't be a thing here. I mean, that is one of the reasons I got bored of Albion - Mercia was supposed to be the merciless endgame continent, yet if I traveled to the half side owned by squad 90% of the players I met where allies. Two seasons before that I was in ego and same thing, if I played in E Anglia, most of the players I met were pink. Huge alliances are boring.

      The difference will probably be lower as tiers go up as it is a common trend in similar games.

      Anyway, I think they should be more specific in what they mean by "horizontal progression".
      From my point of view, if my character can equip and craft everything in the game, then there is a horizontal progression even if we have weapon tiers. To put it bluntly:

      • vertical progression = I have to craft 500bone spears to unlock the ability to craft iron spears or to fight 500mobs with a bone spear in order to unlock the ability of equipping iron spears
      • horizontal progression = if I have the materials to craft a magical steel sword I can do so even if I never crafted swords before and if I have a magical steel sword in my inventory I can use it even if I never used swords before. (we asume that magical steel sword is the best possible weapon of its class)

      @Yitra said in Enough attackers / defenders during eclipses:

      For "BiS" gear (if there ever will be something like that, let's say more "specific" gear made for "specific" circumstances/fights) I still expect that you will need mats from all 3 planets. So if I stay with my beast-man on Arboreus. I need someone else to gather those mats for me, which should make it also a more rare/expensive material.

      I also read something like that and it makes sense, but still the resources specific to furries planet will be very cheap compared to the ones specific to the demon planet because there's no risk in gathering them.

      @Jetah said in Enough attackers / defenders during eclipses:

      we shouldn't have expensive gear at all. the game being horizontal should mean that worst and best aren't difference enough to really matter. but i've read where stone/bone weapons would do 20% less damage than steel which makes me wonder how horizontal the game will be.

      "Horizontal progression" doesn't mean a specific thing to me to be fair.

      It could mean that you have absolutely no restrictions on what your character can do - in other games you pick a class (warrior, mage, rogue) and then unlock skills and equipable gear ("vertically") as you level up. In this game you don't have requirements (class, skills, level) to unlocking stuff (thus, not a vertical progression as you can expand "horizontally" as much as you want). If you make an alt and wish to equip him with the top gear you can do so. If you want to unlock "fire tornado", you don't have to be a level 30 mage which has "fireball" spell unlocked.
      PS: Although there are some restrictions - for example magic being incompatible with plate.

      But anyway, I doubt "horizontal progression" means what some people on the forums suggest ("new characters are as strong as seasoned characters"), which is basically no character development at all.
      And here are some hints why I think it's not the case:

      • you only start with a handful of skills and you have to unlock the rest (it should be obvious that a character with a full bar of skills will be stronger than a character with only 3 active skills)
      • skills can evolve up to level 3
      • we can unlock talents clicky
      • I read that for more advanced gear you will need materials from all the planets. What's the point in doing all that work if they are not better?

      @asspirin
      Well, being costly is an important disadvantage in full loot pvp.

    • How will be decided which group takes a farming spot on Arboreus (animal planet)?

      So here's a scenario: we PvE on Arboreus when suddenly another group rolls in. They plan to troll us (or simply have better clear time), so they attack the same mobs as we do hoping we will leave. I assume karma penalties are heavy on Arboreus, so trying to PK them is out of question. Is there anything planned to solve this kind of dispute?

      PS: Could someone move this to questions and answers?
