      Good point: I was assuming beastmen would be able to wear that armor, too! πŸ™‚

      Honest-to-goodness, low-power-curve, horizontal progression is not something that was ever featured in a succesful MMO, as far as I can tell.

      Ya, curious to see how it works here. One possible consequence is that it will be relatively straightforward to build a bunch of toons, all specced out for different purposes, and then you can just log with the one you need.

      Ethics and business consequences aside, I notice only three limited pledge packs remain, and that seems like a good thing. πŸ™‚

      As I see it, mounted combat:

      • makes PvP harder to balance;
      • increases the speed of travel (effectively making maps smaller);
      • for the cost of development, ultimately adds relatively little unique gameplay (in my experience, everyone -has- to be mounted, so you've simply relocated the combat framework, not expanded it).

      All the same, I agree it would be nice if done right, but I think the cost outweighs the gain.

      @boogis we presume that undead are evil because most games and fantasies place them in that role...

      @tsoo said in Environmental Combat:

      But I was just curious what other types of environmental combat will we see that do not involve water or ice?

      Hopefully they take some inspiration from effects and interactions from Divinity Original Sin 2: webs, lava, smoke, oil, poison puddles and clouds that explode when exposed to fire, blood as a substitute for water (with players leaving blood puddles from damage), and holy/unholy elements that can be applied to any type of environmental element to alter their effects.

      Ya, combat in Divinity Original Sin 2 was a blast (literally). πŸ™‚

      Summoning oil to slow down enemies, then lighting the oil with a fire spell, or using electricity on pools to stun enemies were mechanics I frequently exploited. πŸ™‚

    • Road blueprints destroy existing roads when canceled

      If a road blueprint is placed such that part it of overlaps an existing road, if the blueprint is then canceled, the overlapping area reverts to normal terrain.

    • RE: Will Animation Cancelling become a combat mechanic one day?

      I quit playing multiple games due to lag: it's extremely frustrating to aim dead center on a target on your client, and have the shot go somewhere crazy on the server.

      I'm hoping combat is designed to minimize ping issues...

      @Esher said in What is called human transform for Beastman?:

      Maybe we can have a kind of werewolf πŸ˜› But in fact, humans stay as boring as they are :3

      I like the idea of a werewolf. πŸ™‚ Or even other kinds of "were" creatures. They don't necessarily have a "good" reputation, but a neutral Lich seems like justification enough for breaking the mold.

      But, if humans could transform to Beastman, then they ought to be able to transform to Demons, too, just not as Abominations. Maybe as Vampires?

      Probably Baldur's Gate II. πŸ™‚ So much atmosphere! (The lairs of the Beholders, or the Illithids, or the Dark Elves... not to mention the dragon encounters...)

      @therippyone When you mentioned the egg, I started wondering. If we do end up getting the taming stretch goal, are we going to be able to hatch creature eggs?

      For example, in one of these fire rain events, or even an eclipse, maybe you could go fight a dragon boss and get an egg, or maybe even steal the egg from the dragon. Then maybe you would have to drop it into a fire or something and slowly hatch it and help it grow.

      That would be cool. πŸ™‚ Hatch a mystery egg!

    • RE: Pinatas, catatonia, and Montgomery Scott (or what matters the most to me in MMOs)

      The original Gothic RPG had memorable creature behaviors: shadowbeasts were deadly, but loners and not very aggressive, whereas raptors hunted in packs, had a long aggro range, and would -never- stop chasing you.

    • RE: Rare Items?

      In Alpha, some loot drops are already rare. For instance, I've never had a bear's head drop. 😞

      Given that that would seem to be a relatively common "rare", I'd expect more of the same as more mobs/loot are introduced.
