    • Maker’s Mark

From what I gather so far. Weapons and Armor will not merely be pieces of equipment that you can grind out in a couple of hours as in other MMOs. A full set of plate armor will be a symbol of pride and achievement. A labor of love taking countless hours and individuals to collect and craft. Wearing the equipment Willy nilly will be caught with second thoughts as the chance of loss is always looming.

For this reason I can see a lot of crafts being more on the conscription basis rather than the bulk supply basis. As each ingot will take up a valuable time slot in the smelter or each hide will take up time on the tanning tub which both will be in high demand and limited supply.

With that said, it would be nice to see the Guild/Marker’s Mark on the crafted piece of equipment. Not only would this help guide players to the crafter/Guild and build notoriety, but it would encourage players to explore and engage with each other.

The world is hard and cold, but we can craft a hat for that.

Specifically, it looks a lot like Ultima Online—the game that turned me on to online gaming. Super curious how it will pay out. Sounds like we can conscript NPC’s like carpenters which sounds a lot like Ultima Online. In Ultima online you conscripted NpC venders and placed them outside your house to peddle your goods while you were offline. Also the progression system is similar, both of which are based on skill with weapons/craft vs level and gear. The city structure seems interesting, I have yet to see a game that did it well. Mortal Online attempted to, but ultimately the system they have is a failure. Also I enjoy the top down camera view approach and game play. I have always enjoyed games like that. Again, like Ultima—post Trammel/felucca, Fractured also have different worlds with different standards of acceptable. Some hated the split in Ultima, others loved it. I hope it works here. I have been looking for a game like this for the 20 years after Ultima tried to expand into 3D and ultimately fail. @Bhan

    • RE: Power Gap Struggles

      My opinion on this.

Most every MMO I have ever played starting with UO, I have been a "solo" player. But there comes a time in every game that you need to cooperate to achieve something 'above and beyond'. There should be a penalty for being solo, as there is in the real word. You need cooperation for success. If you choose to go it alone, then you know the risks.

If you are trying to build a mansion in the wood, well, it should take you a while. If you are simple, you can knock it out in 2-3 hours as I did. If you cannot tell yet, the game is designed to be a walk, not a sprint. Rome was not built in a day.

But I do agree that there should be some 'free' nodes out there for ore. Seems like every other material you can harvest except ore as a solo player. At least if a solo player can bring his own ore to a city to trade/smelt he wouldn't be relying 100% on cities for equipment that is better then a bundle of sticks fastened together with some rope and leather.

Seems ore will be hard to get, not sure how much cities will offer a outsider to use there resources for a new shiny hat. Unless, that outsider has gold, and something to replenish their stock.

...I think there should be some more features for people that want to craft and farm give at least one field to grow crops... Also...the only work station I can build is an enchanting table , Fleshing beam , ,milling stone , and charcoal pile... I think we should be able to have everything at least at a basic level as city housing has . Also I think some kind of trade vendor would also be great as well..."

I always play solo, group when needed, but generally solo. Agree 100% wilderness housing needs something more. As it is, It takes forever to travel across the map. A road side vendor would be great. But what good would a road side vendor be if he couldn't make anything due to the limitations on wilderness housing?

@Esoba said in Soloing Housing needs more amenities!:

"...My hope is that since this is a test, things are this way just for data for the test. Ultimately there shouldn't be any limitation on what individuals can build themselves, and on their own plot. Wanna build a metalshop in the middle of nowhere (out of a city). Go ahead. You won't have any access to your own ore, but that's what trade is for...

Agree, hopefully with the Alpha tests, they are looking at the actual functionality of their concepts. I dig the whole "cooperation" piece, but there needs to be some balance.

I used to have a neighbor who made swords in his backyard, we lived 30 minutes away from the city. He made some killer swords and sold them to some shop in the mall. The idea of a metalshop in the middle of nowhere is not that far fetched or much to ask.

free resource nodes, open crafting to wilderness folk, and vendors. Hoping for some balance. If you can pay a carpenter, why cant you pay a vendor?

    • RE: Just some discussion questions to ponder

Just my thoughts on the “demons attacking the Humans”:

I think the portal locations should be random, else humans could just camp the ports locations. I am assuming it won’t be a secret when the gates open allow the demons in to the human world.

In my opinion, the portal locations should be randomized. And a limited (2-4) number of demons should be able to ‘group’ and teleport together winding up in the same location on Syndesia.

Allowing a whole guild to jump through the same portal would not be optimal. It would give the demons an over stated advantage over the humans especially if their random portal node was located right next to a city.

There should be some confusion and logistics required by the demons to organize once they hit Syndesia. They are coming from a different world after all. However, by allowing small groups to travel to the same portal node on Syndesia will even the playing grills on both sides. A single demon won’t just be picked off by the humans as he is looking for his raiding group, allowing some durability of the demons but not overly so upon landing.

      -------------------------------------------------This is Alpha-------------------------------------------------------------------
And from other Alpha's I have been part of, this is actually pretty smooth with a lot of 'stuff' already. I am sure this is just a glimpse into the depth the Dev Q&As and what not eludes too.

      With that-

Your desire seems legit. Right now I have a plot, outside the city with two houses on it. What for? Not really sure now. I am nearly "linked" to the city anyways for crafting any useful items. Only benefit off city plots have right now is you can rest memorize. So, a 2x2 with a fireplace. Other than that, storage.

tldr; make homes more useful other than just a 'very far away storage area'.

With the way that this game is going, where you're forced to join a group/guild/city just so you can have the very basic necessities of the game, i really don't see much of a future for it.

Cause people will join the game and only experience a small portion of the game and go "That's it? what else can I do? i guess i'll get a refund." cause let's face it, there are many games where you're barred at the gates and the only way for you to even know what you're missing out on is to join a guild/group of people when NOT EVERY PLAYER IS INCLINED TO JOIN ONE STRAIGHT AWAY.

with the way things are going, i really don't see much point for me to be trying out this game, and just come back when it's fully released to see if theres actually any hope for it.

      ------------------------------------------------------------THIS IS ALPHA--------------------------------------------------------------------
I keep saying that in hopes....

Private housing definitely needs to be relooked at. I mean wtf is the point of being able to make charcoal, but not any other blacksmith stuff?

I know it is early, economy is still growing. But it is extremely annoying that it is virtually impossible right now to have anything 'metal' (forget about obtaining 'special' metal) unless you are in a guild/city or combo of both. Very few people are selling the raw material, and even if a solo player obtains some, what do they do with it? I guess pay more for someone to craft it with your materials?

I still have hopes for this game, still have dreams. I will continue and give it a college boy try. But, college boys tend to give up if things don't put out, if ya get me.

@GamerSeuss said in Travel Time Mitigates Log-in Desirability:

Yes, the Average Horse goes about 30 mph, but the average human runs at 28 mph, almost 90% of the horse speed.

What scifi books have you been reading? If I could run at 28 mph I would hold world records and not need a car or bike for transportation.

An average human's walking speed is around 3.5 - 4.5 mph. average running speed 6-8 mph and sprint 10 - 12mph.

@GamerSeuss But you are right, a horse with a person will travel roughly 4.5 -5 mph and will canter at about 8 - 11 mph with sprints up to 50mph.

All other points I agree with you!
