RE: Weight system?
@prometheus said in Feature Spotlight #2 - Universe, Planets and Travels:
You don't indeed, inventory in Fractured is close to that of ARPGs like Diablo or Path of Exile, thus not only limited by the weight of items, but also by physical space. That's why carts, pack animals and so on are needed, particularly when you want to be a merchant or... a carpenter
And from spotlight 5:
Strength is a measure of the raw physical power of your character, determining how hard it can hit with melee attacks, how much weight it can carry

RE: The PvE vs PvP Thread
I don't think this game will cater to "carebears" and I think if you're going into this game expecting to just spend all your time on Arboreus safely PvEing this game probably won't be for you.
-
Full loot shows that the devs intend for this game to be fairly hardcore. They want risk to be involved. A self-contained extremely safe Arboreus goes against the idea of risk.
-
They described Arboreus as PvE-centric, not PvE exclusive. Just like Tartaros will be PvP-centric but will most likely also have plenty of PvE. I strongly suspect the safe areas of Arboreus will mostly be the big hubs, and venturing away from those hubs will always always carry risk; decreased risk compared to other planets, but risk nontheless. I very much doubt spending all your time in safe zones will be rewarding or fun.
-
The knowledge system is heavily exploration based. You will have to leave your safe zones to develop your talents and abilities. What is a carebear going to do when they have to travel to Tartaros to learn an ability they want or to upgrade one of their abilities?
I feel for those who are looking to live their digital lives as peaceful farmers permanently safe from all those evil gankers, but from what we know about the game so far, I don't think it will really support that. The closest you might get is joining a guild and living on their settlement as peacefully as you can under their protection, but there will never be guaranteed safety.

@kellewic Green/red show the increased/decreased cap level. The blue stat costs less points to raise.

RE: Question about stargates.
@finland said in Question about stargates.:
Dunno what you mean for "shortcuts"
He's asking if other races can go to Tartaros and take advantage of the demons' travel mechanics. It's an interesting question, but we don't know enough about interplanetary travel to answer it yet. If I had to guess, the demons' easier ability to travel is tied to being a follower of Babilis; probably only demons, abominations, and maybe evil humans will have that ability.

RE: Something unique about Fractured
@finland 4-6k sounds pretty healthy for a b2p indie game. I've played far "deader" games than that. I'd be surprised if Dynamight are aiming much higher.
On topic: The sandboxy three worlds with different rulesets is what drew me in. I'm curious to see how it plays out. And the combat sounds pretty dope.

RE: Unity has blocked SpatialOS - What's up and what it means for us
@mewmew said in Unity has blocked SpatialOS - What's up and what it means for us:
Unity has said World's Adrift was okay and won't need to be taken down. I don't know who they talked to in order to get Unity to say this, maybe someone at Fractured can reach out and talk to them as well.
Another game using the two together (Lazarus by Split Milk) at first took their game down being worried, but brought it back up two hours later and said they're going to keep going until someone forces them to take it down. They found out that they were going to be able to keep the game up, as per their tweets, so there's another game that thought they were going to be affected that turned out to be just fine.
The latest tweet by Split Milk says this: "People and companies who we have no influence over have created events that led to us being told that we'd have to shut the Lazarus servers down.
It turns out this was not true."
So they are just fine now.Just because they're able to keep their live game up, doesn't mean they're fine. Without a license, SpatialOS can't support their Unity platform, and without support, further development on the platform is risky. If any major bugs pop up, devs are screwed. If Improbable and Unity can't agree to a solution to at least keep support, these games are still going to have to switch engines or stop updating.
There was some confusion with the wording of what Unity was saying and doing, and there are other things happening behind the scenes that we didn't really know about. Unity isn't entirely to blame. Someone else put it like this:
"Unity requires that anyone who qualifies as a “platform” (SpacialOS is exactly this) become liscenced by Unity as such, Improbable said “nah, that is ok: we are just fine without one, but thanks for asking” for 2 years.
According to Improbable: Unity warned them that SpatialOS might be in violation of the original ToS, and requested technical information to make a judgement. Improbable complied and received confirmation that they were not in violation. Some time later (in the middle of commercial discussions), Unity updated their ToS in a way that threatened SpatialOS. Improbable, confused, ask for clarification from Unity but were ignored and their license revoked.
I have some suspicions towards Improbable with the way they're trying to leverage the gaming industry against Unity to grant them "interoperability without commercial arrangement," but I'm inclined to believe Improbable that everything was fine up until the ToS change. If Improbable were acting in bad faith, then it should have been Unity's responsibility to warn their customers that their products were in danger which they failed to do.

RE: Is Dynamight Studios Actively Seeking a Publisher/ Are Plans in Place to Earn Development Funds Post-Kickstarter?
Dynamight Studios is a financially stable company. Careful business planning, coupled with backing from the three founders and private investors, make us feel safe about the future of the project. Moreover, we already have open channels with a few large game publishers that have shown interest in Fractured.
They've stated that the game will be funded regardless of the kickstarter's success so they're not just working off of the KS money. Prometheus also said that to even get a game to a KS ready state already requires significant funding which they presumably already have considering the campaign.
Kickstarter offers some benefits: quick funding to immediately hire new talent, some publicity, and free SpatialOS servers for testing for hitting a minimum crowdfunding goal (likely why 100k was chosen). It's not their entire business plan.

RE: How do you feel about transmog system for fractured?
@jetah said in How do you feel about transmog system for fractured?:
I'd love to see some plate enemies wearing cloth and has a staff transmog instead of a 2h weapon. I'd file it under the 'it's magic that makes their armor look like cloth' it could be a perception skill check or have a skill that can pierce through the deception.
I think that's something that should fall under illusion magic. Cloaking/deceptively changing the look of your gear could be fun, but I think it would get a little out of hand if anyone could do it all the time.

but you can kill him in inside
If I recall correctly, it was only said that you can be killed on your plot (i.e. if you get caught outside). I doubt there's much someone can do if you're inside your house because they can't come in if you don't let them.

RE: I want to get excited but...
@kellewic said in I want to get excited but...:
So if these resources aren't special why do others covet them? Why would they stir greed?
Equal doesn't mean interchangable. Let's say Arboreus will be more abundant in resources for mana potions, and Tartaros will be more abundant in resources for health potions. Both valuable and sought after and can't be substituted for one another. Maybe Arboreus' materials and weapon crafting recipes are designed for lighter and faster versions of weapons, while Tartaro's are slow but heavy hitting. If you were a beastman and wanted a slow, heavy hitting axe, it would need to be Tartaros crafted.

RE: Future Plans for new races and/or planets?
A problem with adding new planets, especially ones that can be lived on, is that it decreases activity on the existing planets. IMO it's something that should only be done if the size of the playerbase can support it.
-
RE: Armoured Mounts
Since Fractured has survival mechanics to add complexity to travel, I wonder how mounts will affect that. Maybe different mounts will be more or less suitable for different biomes.

RE: reimbursement of clan / ally events equipment
@gofrit said in reimbursement of clan / ally events equipment:
Reimbursement... huh
Guys you know the stuff is planned to have "no full impact" on battle, probably just a very very little push to some skills, no epic weapon, no legend armor... just some stuff with some enchant.
If you go in battle with you're inventory full you could lose something for sure (if the player kill you and not knock you)
So how to estimate a loss on which matter ?The devs have never said gear has "no full impact" or even implied that gear has little impact. The only thing they've said is that there is no gear progression. Please stop spreading misinformation.
Gear will have value, and organized guilds will need to keep their members geared up. An ingame way for guilds to keep track of armor that needs replacing would be helpful for resource management.

RE: I want to get excited but...
@finland said in I want to get excited but...:
Anyway I really don't get why players want to pvp in safe areas. You have many places where enjoy PvP so you should stop try to find a way to ruoin others gametime.
At least for me, I think it's a little unfair that half a planet is impossible to access when good and neutral players have unlimited access to all planets. I think the safe zones on Arboreus should have much harsher penalties, something like 80% stat nerf, you only get 5 mins before you have to leave the safe zone, but you can return (like going up for air while diving), and good players can't be executed (only knocked unconscious). That way demons still have access but 1 beastman should be able to take on 5 demons in safe zones and even if they die they're not going to lose everything.
I just really don't like the idea of such a hard restriction in a game that's otherwise extremely open, and, like Phaethonas points out, it could lead to an imbalanced economy.

@jetah said in About the VIP membership:
And someone pays for mercenaries to invade that city, taking it from you. You’ve now paid to lose.
Are you trying to prove my point for me? The person that paid the mercenaries paid to win. I don't think it's healthy for the game when conflict is decided by whoever is willing to throw money around.

RE: Town Location Advantage
@azraelius The most we know about boats is from the news article about the Alpha 1 map.
As of today, swimming is not planned, and sailing is not in the list of topics for Alpha. However, the proximity of towns and rivers is definitely not a coincidence! Transportation of players and materials through boats is something we’ve planned to implement later on – and when we do, it’s going to shake the worlds of commerce and warfare!

RE: PvP loot, an yet unasked question and diferent POV
@eurav said in PvP loot, an yet unasked question and diferent POV:
When you get knocked out you lose / drop everything in your inventory. When you get killed you lose / drop every piece of equipement you are wearing. Was answered by Prometheus in an Q&A. Hopefully I got this right
To clarify this, there are two "death states" because you basically have two health bars. Endurance is your primary health, it's what most attacks will do damage to. When you lose all endurance your character is knocked unconscious and will get back up after some time. When unconscious, your inventory can be looted (it isn't dropped). Looting is considered a hostile action and is thus limited by the alignment system (good players can't loot other good or non-flagged neutral players, etc.)
You have a second healthbar (health), which is what gets damaged when all endurance is lost. When a characters loses all health, it dies and its inventory and equipped items can be looted, and the same alignment restrictions apply on looting.
