    • RE: So there will be a skin cash shop (part 2)

I'm pretty opposed to masking a weapon as a different weapon type, and I feel that weapons are going to be more telling, in the end, than armor is.

Way I figure it, given the isometric view, we aren't going to be able to see too much detail on the armor - Diablo 2 or 3 levels of detail, that sort of thing. which means that, by and large, we're going to be talking 20 to 30 armor models, tops, including clothing, robes, and all the edge lord stuff, for a good long while. But that's covering anywhere from 100, to several 1,000 variations - is that the heavy plate that is super defensive, or the heavy plate that provides bonuses to Warfare skills, or the heavy plate that is barely better than the heaviest middle plate, and supercharges Warfare skills? Or is it one of the esoteric heavy plates to actually enhance specific skills, like regen restoration and defensive and counter-counter abjuration magic?

At the end of the day, as long as the costume can only be applied to a specific armor type, or the result of applying the costume differs based on what it's applied to - Heavy Plate into Fright Lord Heavy Plate, for example - and you can tell the base armor because of it, you pretty much are going to know all you were going to know before.

Similarly, I imagine "Clothes" are going to be the armor set that gets the most skins applied - they aren't intended for combat, so you wear them in places you feel safe, which makes "turning" them into a tuxedo, or a little red dress, or lingerie, or swim trunks, or a Hawaiian shirt and shorts, or an Eskimo parka, or a yellow rain coat, "easy," game-wise. No one expects any of that to be suitable for combat, so, "clothes" is the "Show-off" option for any and all bling. And, let's face it, everyone, at some point, wants to show-off, even if it's just a little XD

@target It's more common in mmo originating out of the Orient. I think it's a fairly blatant cash grab, but it's occasionally handy - if you want a halloween costume for October, getting a witches hat and broom for a month, for 50 cents a piece, isn't a truly terrible idea.

(note, most mmos in this vein tend to charge much more than $.50, which is why I don't buy them)

@gothix The first post I did had 10 polls, including pricing questions - the forum borked hard, had a fit, and I got semi-locked for 10 minutes. I kind of hate doing 10 different threads on a single topic, so I held off for a bit.

What do you think is a good price for a permanent skin on...a weapon? or a full costume with theme'd weapon? or on an effect - like a spell effect or aura? and what about a reskin of the race - like truning the croc beastman into a rabbit beastman, or a Blood into a more traditional vampire?

@chrightt said in Pets & Mounts:

Would be interesting if something is both a pet and a mount.

This could be fun. The Earth Dragon, Bone Dragon, and Imperial Gryphon all look big enough - maybe doing favors for any of the 3 planet rulers will let you get an egg? (they are players, remember XD Hopefully RP'ers, given how lore heavy they'll be in those roles). Eggs wouldn't produce those pets, obviously, since they are limited, but would produce the "common" versions

Not sure if the mech spider would be just a ride, or a ride pet...but you could use the same model to do a monster octopus XD On a similar note, centaur and sphinxes could be fun. not sure the devs are up to writing all the dialogue hanging out with a sentient and verbal pet/ride would entail...

I'd like to see a chibi-sphinx pet. Think adorable kitten with a kid's face and wings. just, maximum adorable XD And a couple more Fendyr variations - those are adorable!
A small snake, or a hawk, or a dog would be nice to see. A quetzalcoatl that drapes on your shoulders, or just sort of floats around you, could be fun (and you can cash shop multiple versions for different colors XD ). A faun might be fun - just, it capers and dances around you all day. could be a nice uplifting thing, if you needed to watch something caper about.

A "light" pet - a will'o'wisp, for example, might also be fun, if they actually created light. but that implies dynamic lighting, and I'm not sure the devs are tackling that...

    • So - there will be a skin cash shop

Anyone have any idea what they'd be willing to pay? I mean, yeah, the devs have to have some estimate about how successful it's going to be - wouldn't offer it if they didn't think it added value - and I'm sure that there are some general basic wisdoms to be had on the matter - but I don't think anyone has actually asked us, as a whole, what we're willing to spend in this regard. So, I'm asking.

    • RE: Limited/rare items?

@jetah This is actually a semi-decent solution. There are...hm. I'm starting to have a count issue. The cash shop offers weapon skins, the legendaries are - effectively - skins with a bit of bonus, probably (it's a nice solution). equipment skins for accomplishing certain feats, seem likely...certain rewards from the ks are skins. The Foundation is doing some skins.

Point is, visual real estate is starting to feel...scarce? somehow? especially if the cash shop for skins is supposed to be a major component to keeping the devs afloat, post launch, having a lot of alternatives isn't...wise.

Not sure what I'm trying to say, precisely, and here isn't the best place for it, probably. I still like your idea. I've just got....an itch - a suspicion - a small voice in the back of my head - a canary in the coal mine, and I'm not sure it's fallen asleep, or there might be a real problem.

But I am suddenly a little worried, all the same.

    • RE: Special Buildings/Buildables for Towns/Cities? As well as rest-related buffs.

@trelia said in Special Buildings/Buildables for Towns/Cities? As well as rest-related buffs.:

Tavern where your character can be hired to be entertainment. A stage for a play. Not sure how this could work but still would be cool to have.

If we've got taverns, then we have Quests! XD let the governor post quests at a tavern, and the NPCs can have a go at them. To some extent, this turns a tavern into a resource generator (the city needs 50 wolf skins for the next wall upgrade, no players feel like hunting wolves this week - put a bounty on wolf skins up at the tavern, and your local npc hunters will have a go at it), and gives the townsfolk a way of upgrading their gear and experience without it costing the players, but it also risks the NPCs dying or becoming maimed, so a smart leader needs to post quests that their town can handle, and figure out suitable rewards - if quests aren't being done quickly, the rewards are probably too low. Also of course, this means your town NPCs are running around outside of the town, where a rival town can gank them...

And on the third hand, nothing says a player can't take part, either, if they are feeling in the mood to to kill large numbers of whatever - and there is an added benefit that you don't get in most MMO - doing the quest actually changes things! you get those 50 wolf skins, and then over the next week, the walls get an upgrade, or are repaired, or whatever, and you can say "I did that!" as opposed to just doing mindless reputation quests and having nothing actually change.

      @rockarmy said in Demon Redemption:

It says the progeny of Tyros will have their presence notified but what if an angel chooses to worship another god?

If Angels are allowed to worship gods other than Tyros, then I'd expect they'd probably follow the same Tartaros ruleset as Beastmen.

FEATURE SPOTLIGHT #6 – PVP, ALIGNMENT & CRIME

Travelling to Tartaros is extremely challenging for any Beastman, since not only they lose the buffs they are granted on Arboreus, but also become the target of the hate of Babilis. The Evil God enjoys stacking curses on the poor fellows, who could end up dying just because of them – if they don’t get slayed by Demons, that is.

I can't see Babilis being happier about Angels on Tartaros than about Beastmen.

Of course, DS can do whatever they want, consistency be damned! πŸ˜„

      That makes sense.

      @comferage said in Ability Ideas?:

@gothix Yes, you should. But in regards to an ability at play, what's the point of using something if there's no way to tell if it's working (against player ofcourse) aside from getting attacked or getting ignored.. I get what your saying about not wanting to have your hand held, I agree with you. But i feel like if I'm going to invest in a ability I kinda wanna know if it's actually working..

Though a crowd of enemies (players) deliberately ignoring me while I traverse their town until I arrive at a place where retreat is impossible to spring a trap sounds pretty awesome..

I do like ambushes XD but that moment of "oh **** I'm caught" is a fun moment, assuming you have a second to appreciate how badly you are boned. and activate your "ftsio" power XD

Alternatively, the moment when you blink, and when you open your eyes again, you can't see yourself for the massed pyrotechnics of 10 mages unloading on your probable corpse, is also quite a thing XD

You bow your head to noone, not even "gods". Your personality is strong and you see every living being as equal. There are no "gods" just a different species perhaps more advanced ones but none more valuable than other. None that deserves being bowed to.

And then you take up divination to talk shit.

I could entirely see Gothix taking divination explicitly to trash talk deities. not sure that would be a wise action, but I could see them doing it XD

    • RE: Special Buildings/Buildables for Towns/Cities? As well as rest-related buffs.

I do like the idea of theme'ing buildings to a locale* and I really do think each planet ought to have it's own style, at the very least. Get the tree-houses/bungalows/huts/yurts (maybe draw from Arabic, India, and Oriental styles for the bigger/more ornate buildings) rocking out on Arboreus, some Proper European Buildings (circa 1920's) with Extra Copper Tubes/Gears On on Syn (because steampunk), and contract HR Giger to architect for Tartaros XD

I'm okay with the idea of different songs/instruments for different Races, but I'm not sure that changing the buffs is a good idea - mechanically speaking, it complicates things for both the devs and the players to have a single skill that varies like that (I mean, to tell a player "you're a demon, you can't buff [Dexterity] with your song," even though Humans can (and must?), seems like you'd be opening a big can of worms. If the devs wanted to set it up so learning a song for a certain stat buff requires listening to it, and that, initially, the only place to find a given song is limited to 1 planet, that sort of has the same effect, but without the same level of restriction. Like, If you want to learn the War Song of Might!, you have to go to the Arena Pits of Tartaros, because that is the single place where that song naturally plays (just before a match). This is, obviously, a Sneaking Mission for the beast races XD Similarly, a demon bard needs to get their rogue on to learn the Heaven's Watch Aria to boost perception, learned only at the Treetop Sky Temples (it's the opening hymn) of Arboreus.

*(but I'd be okay with paying extra in initial costs and maintenance for going off theme, either slightly or a lot for using another planet's blueprints XD - like, okay, you have your city on...Arboreus, to spitball...but you have a small neighborhood of "Little Syn" that uses human materials and/or building types, cause someone was feeling "home sick" and decided to do it (possibly with the governor's permission?))

@gothix There is also a god of intellect slated, which makes the suggested atheist bonus a little awkward.

While I have no opinion on the matter of including atheists, I might instead suggest that these rugged individuals, who ask for no help from the deities, receive a bonus to resisting ailments - a life spent fending for yourself makes you hearty, vigorous, and unlikely to fall to natural maladies and inflicted mesmerism?
